Don't Discard that Plywood!
|
Many Adams Morgan businesses covered their windows and doors with protective sheets of plywood during the recent protest activity, but with the situation stabilizing, boards are being removed. We are working with DPW to help repurpose plywood that would otherwise be discarded by donating it to organizations such as Habitat for Humanity instead. If you are removing protective plywood (that is still in good condition) from your business and don't plan on retaining it, please leave it out by the nearest sidewalk trash can by
12 Noon on Sunday, June 14
. Our clean team will pick up the boards and convey them to DPW.
Please note: We are only collecting plywood in good condition! No other construction materials will be picked up.
If your plywood is not ready for removal because your business and/or property has sustained damage, or you are not yet comfortable removing it, then we ask that you please consider the commission of a temporary mural by a local artist to help bring vibrancy to our streetscape while spreading messages of positivity within the local community. LISC Small Business Relief Grant
|
LISC national office opened up a fourth round of its small business grant funding, and is accepting applications through Wednesday, June 17. In the past three rounds, 8-12 DC businesses have received grants and we expect that trend to continue in round three.
Businesses can apply for up to $10,000. The link to the application here.
Priority is given to entrepreneurs of color/women/veteran owned businesses. Award winners are selected via a lottery process.

The full Adams Morgan Farmers Market is now open on Saturdays with the LICKING CREEK BEND FARM, RAVENHOOK BAKEHOUSE and REMIE'S FLOWERS and PLANTS.
The market will observe City approved social distancing as well as extra health and safety precautions.
Our new hours are 8:30am - 12:30pm at Suntrust Plaza, 18th Street and Columbia Rd.
Licking Creek Bend Farm has established a CSA Subsidy Program for first responders, essential service providers and families deeply impacted by the pandemic. We already have 25 families participating and seek donations to support their subsidized membership fees. WMATA Survey: Commuting Plans

As the region enters the beginning stages of reopening, transit agencies and DOTs are working to ensure that residents and workers can travel safely throughout the transportation network. As we enter this next stage, Metro aims to keep capacity ahead of demand—to enable social distancing to the extent possible.
Metro is seeking feedback
from employers about their expected “return-to-office” schedules, which will determine changes in demand for Metrorail and Metrobus services.

For the
Payroll Protection Program (PPP)
, we want to remind employers of a deadline that could be relevant to you. The Small Business Administration (SBA) implemented an interim final rule effective May 28, 2020 that still allows for loan forgiveness if an employee chooses not to come back to work as long as you have made good faith attempts to hire employees, but the employment offers have been rejected, provided that the employer informs their state's unemployment insurance office within 30 days of an individual rejecting the offer of employment or reemployment. As you are rehiring and reopening, we want to make sure you are aware of this 30-day timeline. The failure to hire or rehire an individual who rejects an offer will not affect loan forgiveness, if the employer takes the following steps:

Makes a good faith, written offer to rehire such employee (or, if applicable, restore the reduced hours of such employee) during the covered period or the alternative payroll covered period;
-
Offers employment for the same salary or wages and same number of hours as earned by such employee in the last pay period prior to the separation or reduction in hours, which is rejected;
-
Maintains records documenting the offer and its rejection; and
-
Informs the applicable state unemployment insurance office of such employee's rejected offer of reemployment within 30 days of the employee's rejection of the offer.

Delivery Fee Cap
Nearly a month ago in DC, the City Council passed legislation that caps the fee third party delivery companies can charge at 15%. This legislation was signed into law on May 13th, and on that date third party delivery companies should have been in compliance. We have heard from a number of you that some companies have not been adhering to the cap requirement. DCRA is charged with enforcing these rules, and we urge you to contact them directly if you find a company to be in violation.

to complete a business complaint form or call DCRA customer service at (202) 442-4400. Violations come with a fine between $250 to $1,000. Councilmember Mary Cheh said she will be looking to further enforce, if needed, if companies are not complying.
Contact Tracing
On Wednesday, DOH Director Nesbitt provided additional information about contact tracing and how it is being implemented. She also reiterated an important reminder that if someone is exposed to a person who has tested positive for COVID-19, the exposed person MUST quarantine for the full 14-days, even if they get tested and it comes back negative. “Exposed” is defined as being within 6 ft of someone for more than 15 minutes.

Pepco Relief
Our friends at Pepco are advancing relief for customers who may be challenged, including businesses, small and large. Pepco has supported the small business community by waiving any new late fees related to accounts that are not paid on time, establishing small business bill deferral plans and suspending customer disconnection through at least July 1st. They have also committed significant financial support to relief organizations.
