Save the Date: October 11 AMPBID Annual Meeting and board elections

The Annual Meeting of the AMPBID will be Thursday, October 11, 2012 at 5pm, at the Third District Police Headquarters, 1620 V Street, NW. Postcards were mailed to all property owners and business owners at the end of August.

AMPBID Annual Meeting Election Process

At the October 11th Annual Meeting, BID members will have the opportunity to vote for candidates for 5 board slots: three property owners and two business owners. The board members currently holding those positions have been renominated for another term and have agreed to serve if elected.

Those are:

·         Matt Wexler – Pharmacy Bar 2337 18th Street and Crumbs and Coffee 2700 Ontario Rd - property owner

·         Kurt Meeske – Combined Properties – CVS Pharmacy, 7-11 and Game Stop 1755 - 1759 Columbia Road – property owner

·         Louis Courembis – Southern Hospitality 1815 Adams Mill Road – property owner

·         Constantine Stavropoulos –  Tryst 2459 18th Street and The Diner 2453 18th Street – business owner

·         Brian Vasile – Grand Central 2447 18th Street – business owner

AMPBID Annual Meeting Election Process

Each person eligible for election as a member of the Board may be nominated by: 1) the nominating committee, or 2) by a member petition submitted to the Chair of the Nominating Committee (Arianne Bennett) at least 30 days prior to the date of the meeting (so additional nominations must be received by September 11); provided that only business owners can nominate business owners and property owners can only nominate property owners and a petition shall require the signature of no less than ten (10) members to nominate a member of the Board. Each nominee either shall be present at the annual meeting or shall consent to such nomination by a written document.

Voting

Per the by-laws, any properties for which BID taxes are over 60 days delinquent, may not vote nor may they nominate members to the board.

For each class of member, the ballot will list all the candidate names, and members will vote for the number of open slots in that category. For example, there are two business owner slots. All members will have the opportunity to vote for two candidates from the list of all business owner candidates.

Proxies

Proxy votes are allowed.

Pursuant to the BID bylaws, those interested in voting in the board elections by proxy can either contact the BID to request a proxy form, or can develop their own form, as long as it includes: the date of the meeting at which it is applicable (October 11) full names, addresses and the dated signatures of both the individual issuing the proxy and the witness(es) to the signature. The proxy voter can be anyone to whom the property or business owner designates to vote for them and DOES NOT have to be a member of the Adams Morgan Partnership BID. All proxy forms must meet all these criteria to be accepted.

The BID will have a proxy form available by fax, mail and by email.

Any questions on this process, please call Kristen at the BID office 202-997-0783 or email her at: Kbarden@adamsmorganonline.org .

Fashion's Night Out - September 6 - Recap and Photos!

Adams Morgan participated for the first time this past September 6th in the annual Fashion's Night Out.

Fashion's Night Out began in 2009, when Vogue magazine's Editor-in-Chief Anna Wintour wanted to stimulate the country's slow economy with a night that would specifically focus on getting consumers back into stores.

As a result, Fashion’s Night Out is now an unprecedented global initiative to celebrate fashion, restore consumer confidence, boost the industry’s economy during the recession, and put the fun back in shopping!

We had a great time this first year with the following businesses participating:

Violet Boutique

Toro Mata: The Art of Peru

Skynear Designs

Tienda Malik

Meeps

Commonwealth/Stussy

SMASH!

Turquoise Jewelry Boutique

The following businesses also provided discounts and incentives to the Fashion's Night Out customers:

The Diner

Bardia's New Orleans Café

Lunar Massage

Sweet Themez Bakery

The Brass Knob Architectural Antiques, Inc.

B&K News

Viet Thai Restaurant and Sutra Lounge

The official Fashion's Night Out website for Washington, DC has a great recap of the event in Adams Morgan with photos and more...see: www.fashionsnightout-dc.com/post/31519827411/fashions-night-out-in-dc-according-to-the-esocialite
