Welcome AMPBID's summer intern, Eleanor Xu
|
Eleanor joined the Adams Morgan Partnership as an intern for the summer on June 21, 2022.
She is currently studying International Relations and Economics at Boston University and is interested in economic development both on a regional level and international level. Eleanor grew up in the Rockville, MD area and often visited the DC area.
She is excited to explore and learn more about Adams Morgan and, more importantly, try all the international cuisine the neighborhood has to offer!
Please join us in welcoming Eleanor to Adams Morgan. She'll be working with us through August and you'll see her around the neighborhood helping to distribute information to businesses and assisting with our projects.

Farmers Market continues Saturday
|
The Adams Morgan Farmers Market is open for the season on
Saturdays from 8:30am – 1:00pm
, rain or shine, at UNITY PARK, Columbia Rd and Euclid St. NW. The market will be open every Saturday through December.
Music at the Farmers Market
With help from a grant from the Department of Parks and Recreation (DPR), we have hired a musician, Heidi Martin, to perform at the farmers market on Saturdays. In addition to playing folk music and jazz, she will also set aside a couple sets for children's music and will have instruments with her so they can participate. Heidi began as lead 3’s teacher with a joyous circle time. “Music 2Little Ears” grew into a creative set of children’s music performances, classes and private lessons. She is also a DC Jazz Festival Education Coordinator and a professional vocalist and composer.

The AMPBID participated in a multi-DC Government agency alley walkthrough Tuesday, June 28. This multi-agency approach is designed to help businesses and the community learn about programs and services available to help control rodent populations.
We are putting together a business and neighborhood working group to address rodent control. We ask that all businesses participate in this effort by first creating a solid foundation of cleanliness with new trash cans and clean dumpsters.
Please contact your waste hauler if your current waste containers have holes, broken or missing lids, or are old and filthy. Please request new containers and let them know that DC Government and the neighborhood are working together to address rodent control. It is imperative that the old containers be replaced. If your waste hauler does not respond or is unwilling to cooperate, please let us know.
Among the action items from the walkthrough:

Businesses should label their trash and recycling receptacles
with their address (or the name of their business). Clearly labeling your trash cans will prevent you from being fined for issues with your neighbor's garbage when inspectors are unable to determine which business is at fault.

Businesses need to have more vigilant pest control services, including bait boxes in the alley
.

We (the BID) will work with utilities to try to clean up the excess wires in the alleys.

Certified Business Enterprise (CBE) Green Grants
up to $100,000 for CBE service firms to provide critical back-office supports to other CBEs interested in pursuing contract and procurement opportunities with the DC Sustainable Energy Utility (DCSEU). Eligible back-office support services covered by CBE Green grants include: accounting, proposal development, legal support, project management, and internal systems development. Funding made possible through partnership with the DC Department of Energy and the Environment.

Webb is joined by Justin Nelson, Co-founder and President of the National LGBT Chamber of Commerce, and Rachel Kalenberg, owner of Pizza Carrello (Gillette, Wyoming), for a panel discussion on financial wellness and the importance of equity and opportunity to help uplift and support LGBTQI+-owned small businesses.
The discussion will also cover SBA initiatives and resources that support small business recovery, LGBTQI+ startups seeking to launch, and help for existing LGBTQI+-owned small businesses, as they pivot and grow over the time ahead.

DC Paid Family Leave Tax Rate Reduction
The District of Columbia Paid Family Leave (PFL) tax rate is being reduced to 0.26 percent. The rate change is effective for the quarter beginning July 1, 2022. The first PFL tax payment at this new rate is due October 31, 2022 for wages paid to covered employees between July 1 and September 30th.

New Law Spotlight: Reopen Washington DC Alcohol Act

ABRA will provide a review of key provisions included in the new law signed by Mayor Muriel Bowser including new alcohol license types and expanded consumer and business opportunities. The session will address: extending the streatery program through 2023; creating new alcohol licenses, including a commercial lifestyle license and third-party delivery license; permitting doggie bags of spirits at restaurants and hotels; and eliminating select application requirements such as notarization.
