1) Welcome to Bicycle Space!
It was announced yesterday that Bicycle Space is moving into 2424 18th Street, NW later this Spring!
Here are excerpts from their press release:
BicycleSPACE announces the spring opening of an unimaginably large shop in Adams Morgan, an expansion progressing in tandem with the company’s upcoming shops in Mt. Vernon Triangle and Ivy City.
The Adams Morgan shop is located at 2424 18th St NW in a 6,400-square-foot storefront. At this size, the shop is the literal definition of BicycleSPACE, now enlarged to create a more opportune environment for bicyclists.
With this much physical space, BicycleSPACE will exponentially increase its ability to serve the greater Washington, D.C. market. It will also strengthen the D.C. economy by creating 40 new jobs, bringing its total workforce to 70+ employees.
BicycleSPACE anticipates an April move into the Adams Morgan property. In May, the company expects to open its 4,100-square-foot shop at 440 K St NW. BicycleSPACE anticipates a June opening at 1512 Okie St NE in the Hecht Warehouse District of Ivy City.

2) A temporary hiatus for Bardia's New Orleans Cafe

We learned this week that Bardia's New Orleans Cafe at 2412 18th Street,
NW is going to take a temporary hiatus while the building under goes renovations.
Bardia hopes to be back in about a year when the building reopens. Bardia
is a neighborhood treasure and his cafe an institution. He will be missed and
we can't wait to see him again!

3) New development - office to residential conversion in
Adams Morgan
Urban Turf
announced this week that The Murillo Malnati Group filed plans
to turn the Transcentury Building into a 47-unit residential building.
The proposed building at 1724 Kalorama Road NW, designed by
Bonstra | Haresign Architects, would have 25 studios, 16 one-bedrooms
and six two-bedrooms, including a handful of two-story units.

7) Lunar Massage hosts another couples massage class
Our February class went so well we're doing it again! Ander Shwaiko is one of our senior therapists who's been practicing in our Mt Vernon Studio for almost five years. He will be leading a four hour class on Saturday, March 7th in the
Adams Morgan studio.

8) Friendly snow reminder
Hopefully we won't get much more snow this winter, BUT if we do please don't push the snow in front of the municipal trash cans throughout the neighborhood. It makes it very difficult for our clean team to open the cans and empty them. They have to redo your work and shovel again. It is best to shovel the snow into the curb or tree box area. Thanks very much!
9) Tryst and the Diner team up with Denizens Brewing Co for a Tap Takeover from March 4 to 10th
T
he Tryst Restaurant group are proud to announce they will be teaming up with local Denizens Brewing Co for a Tap Takeover from March 4th – 10th, 2015. Tryst and The Diner are excited to offer the community the opportunity to try an assortment of these local beers on tap, as well as beer flights, assorted beer cocktails and unique food pairings.
Denizens Brewing Co is a microbrewery located right on the DC/MD line, just about 5 miles from the Tryst group’s stores. Denizens believes that everyone has a right to fresh, local craft beer and the Tryst group is making that more possible than ever with this tap takeover.
Denizens Co-owner and Head Brewer Jeff Ramirez said, “We’re excited to be doing this bar takeover with the Tryst group. Community involvement is a big deal to us, so partnering with them is an ideal relationship."
Beverage Director of the Tryst Restaurant Group, David Fritzler, is particular excited about this great partnership with Denizens and says “I’m so happy to have the opportunity to do something like this with another local business that is passionate about beer and serving the DC community. We’ve come a long way as a beer town since I moved here from Portland, Oregon in 1999. There wasn’t much good beer available, local or otherwise. BID Tax bills were mailed and new online bill payment option
The Adams Morgan BID tax bills for the April 1, 2015 to September 30, 2015 period were mailed earlier this week and payments are due by April 1. If you are a commercial property owner and do not receive your bill by Wednesday March 4th, please let us know.
As of this billing cycling online bill payment options are available.
The Office of Tax and Revenue (OTR) has implemented an eCheck payment option for property owners who would like to pay their
Business Improvement District
(BID) taxes online.
The new online payment system is

No need to write checks or pay postage. You can make your
BID tax
payments 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

We do not charge you to use the online payment system.

Controlled by you
:
Your payment is made when you authorize it. You will have full use of your funds while ensuring on-time payments.

Reliable
:
When you pay, you will get a “Receipt” and a reference number as proof of your payment.
To use the
Business Improvement District Tax
eCheck online payment system, search the
Real Property Assessment Database
and enter your square and lot or your address.
1) Click on your property to retrieve your account information.
2) Click on “View Tax Information” at the bottom of the page.
3) You will see “Real Property” and “Business Improvement District (BID Tax)” due amounts on the Account Summary tab.
4) Then, click on “Click here to make payment” in the upper right corner of the page.
5) Confirm the tax (es) to be paid (You may unselect a tax if you do not wish to pay at this time).
6) Confirm the amount(s) to be paid (The amount paid defaults to the amount owed. You may change the amount if you choose).
7) Enter your email address.
8) Click on the “Pay Online” button.
9) Verify payment amounts. If correct, click on “Submit
”

10) You will then be directed to enter your bank account information to complete the payment.

Information on Initiative 71 - New Marijuana Law effective 2-26-15
The Metropolitan Police Department asked us to share this information because of the misinformation floating around.
Facts on Marijuana in DC
DC’s Initiative 71 Legalizes Possession of Minimal Amounts of Marijuana for Personal Use
An individual 21 years of age and older will be able to lawfully:
1) Possess two ounces or less of marijuana;
2) Use marijuana on private property;
3) Transfer one ounce or less of marijuana to another person, as long as:
no money, goods or services are exchanged; and
the recipient is 21 years of age or older;
4) Cultivate within his or her primary residence up to six marijuana plants, no more than three of which are mature.
However, even with the enactment of Initiative 71, it remains a crime for anyone to:
1) Possess more than two ounces of marijuana;
2) Smoke or otherwise consume marijuana on public space or anywhere to which the public is invited; including restaurants, bars, and coffee shops;
3) Sell any amount of marijuana to another person; or
4) Operate a vehicle or boat under the influence of marijuana.
Anyone under 21 years of age is still prohibited from possessing any marijuana.
Initiative 71 does not legalize marijuana sales!

DC Office of Planning - Adams Morgan Vision Framework Planning Initiative - TOMORROW February 28th meeting
DC Office of Planning: Adams Morgan Vision Framework Planning Initiative
The DC Office of Planning asked us to remind people about the community workshop on February 28th. If you are unable to attend but would like to submit your ideas,
please visit the project’s online public engagement page (

) and promote it to others.
The Office of Planning has initiated the Adams Morgan Vision Framework, a visioning process that will build upon previous planning studies to define a vision as well as recommendations for Adams Morgan. This planning initiative will provide an opportunity for residents, local businesses, institutions, and property owners to collectively articulate a vision for the future of Adams Morgan and identify opportunities to preserve physical characteristics, enhance amenities, support sustainability, and improve quality of life for the community.
The community and stakeholders are invited to a half-day, community workshop on Saturday, February 28th, from 9am – 12pm, at Marie Reed Elementary School, where stakeholders will be encouraged to share their perspectives on Adams Morgan’s future.
