#HolidaysInAdMo: Celebrate the Season with an Interactive Light Display, Holiday Caroling & More!

You are invited to celebrate the most wonderful time of the year in Adams Morgan! It’s the perfect place to shop, dine, and support approximately 240 local, small businesses. Enjoy a variety of fun holiday activities and festive decorations, an interactive light display in the plaza, plenty of shops for all of your gift-giving needs, and an array of restaurants for every palate and pocketbook.

A month-long interactive light display is located in the plaza at Columbia Road and Adams Mill Road, NW throughout December! The illuminated display is ideal for selfies or holiday card photos - plus, you may even find a surprise mistletoe. Street light decorations can also be found throughout the neighborhood and will surely get you in the holiday spirit.

While holiday shopping, attending a holiday party, or enjoying a date night out in Adams Morgan, visitors can listen to holiday carolers in Dickensian costumes and the Capital Classics Quartet (members of the Capital Chorus ) in the plaza on the following dates (weather permitting):

  • Sunday, December 4 from 12-1:30pm
  • Thursday, December 8 from 7-8pm
  • Thursday, December 15 from 6:30-8pm
  • Sunday, December 18 from 12-1pm

Be sure to tag us in your festive Adams Morgan photos using the hashtag #HolidaysInAdMo and @admobid for a chance to win a $50 gift card to the Adams Morgan business of your choice. We will be announcing winners the day after each caroling event on our social media channels!

This year’s holiday caroling events are generously sponsored by The Rounds . They deliver 150+ products to DC neighbors’ doorsteps on e-bikes, with zero-packaging waste. Things like household essentials, pantry staples, and personal care products are brought to your door (yes, apartments too) on autopilot without any of the cardboard boxes or single-use plastic. And similar to the traditional "milkman model," they pick up your empty containers when you’re done. Visit their table during the caroling events for sweet treats, hot drinks, and to receive 2 months of free membership using the code HOLLYJOLLY at therounds.co/start .

Updates from RAMW

Like you, we’ve been hearing lots of buzz about what happens next regarding Initiative 82 . As we shared during our post-election briefing, the RAMW team and Board of Directors have been exploring options to soften the landing of the costs and changes to our operations set out by the measure. We expect to have more to share soon. In the meantime, we’re always on standby to answer your questions, and don’t forget to sign up for our second wage modeling webinar on December 13. (Registration info below.)

On to this week’s updates:

Permanent Delivery Fee Cap: Staying in DC, the Fair Meals Delivery Act is expected to pass a first vote at Tuesday’s Council meeting. The bill, the most comprehensive of its kind in the country, requires delivery service companies to have written agreements with restaurants before delivering their meals and prohibits advertising a restaurant without its permission. Since its October hearing, the bill has also been revised to make permanent the temporary 15% delivery cap . If passed, the law would take effect early next year.

Grants: Applications for Round 4 of the DC Food Access Fund open December 12. A total of $10 million is available for food and beverage businesses looking to expand their operations into areas designated for having low access to freshly prepared foods, with priority given to locations in Wards 7 and 8. Apply by January 12, 2023. Learn more and apply here .

More Grants: Applications are open for a new $8 million round of Bridge Funds for businesses and sole proprietors in the restaurant, entertainment, and retail sectors that lost revenue due to the pandemic. Grant awards range from $5,000-$45,000. Businesses that have not previously received relief funds will receive priority. Learn more and apply by January 13, 2023, here .

Restaurant Revitalization Fund: A total of $83 million will be distributed to the next 169 applicants in the application queue (based on timestamp of the application). Funds should be released within the next week and must be used before the RRF program expires in March 2023.

An earlier estimate from the Government Accountability Office of $180 million in unspent funds was inaccurate; this $83 million is the final installment of the RRF. More details can be found from the National Restaurant Association here .  SBA’s release can be found here .

Releasing these final funds – and the creation of the $28.6 billion RRF in 2020 – was due to the advocacy of our national partners, local restaurant associations, and you, the operators. These funds have helped more than 100,000 restaurants and other food and beverage businesses survive the pandemic.

Of course, there are more than another 100,000 applicants left with no funding at all. Congress has made clear they aren’t looking to replenish the RRF despite the fact that our industry still feels the broad effects of the pandemic every day. There are steps government can take to support restaurants in every community, and we, along with our national partners, will continue to press for solutions. We will share any further details as they're available.

File police reports online

The Third District would like to share information on File a Police Report Online.  Using the Online Reporting Tool , you can report the following types of incidents: Lost property Lost vehicle tags Theft/theft from auto* Destruction of property Damage to property *Thefts, in which your checkbook, debit, credit card, social security card or social security number, etc. may have been stolen and/or used to purchase other items or services, are considered credit card fraud and/or identity theft, and should not be filed online using this application .

Important: If you or your business has become a victim of crime, it is important to file a police report. Even in a situation where you think the crime is unlikely to be solved, police reports are used to inform staffing levels around the city and to help spot trends and repeat offenders.

Learn more and submit comments here .

Last Chance: Survey with an opportunity to win a $2500 grant

There is a new initiative called In-Place by &Access which is distributing a survey to businesses throughout DC. In-Place’s goals to develop new data to design new policies, programs, and financial tools is important. With your support, they will use the data to help your business better sustain brick-and-mortar operations.

Please help them understand the neighborhood, business, and financial conditions impacting your business’s success by completing this 20-minute survey .

When you reach the end of the survey and submit, you will be automatically entered for a chance to win one of three $2,500 grants and pro bono technical assistance for your business .
