1) AMPBID hosts meeting with MPD Captain Mongal - July 25th at 5:30 PM
AMPBID is hosting a special open meeting with MPD Captain Aubrey Mongal on Wednesday July 27th at 5:30 PM at 2474 18th Street, NW, on the second floor (The District).
This meeting is to follow up on the meeting held on July 14th at MPD's Third District Offices and Captain Mongal will discuss "Operation Adams Morgan".All business owners, property owners and concerned residents are encouraged to attend.

Members of MPD will provide more extensive details of the planned collaborative efforts associated with this initiative as well as specific objectives and the overall goals. Additionally, they will remain on hand for a question and answer session afterwards and look forward to welcoming anyone wishing to participate.


2) Marketing Meeting scheduled for Tuesday July 26th - CANCELLED

The previously scheduled Marketing Committee meeting set for Tuesday July 26th at 2 PM has been cancelled. We usually do not meet in August but will evaluate then whether or not there is a need to meet. The Marketing Committee's usual meeting is the third Tuesday of the month  (the Tuesday after the AMPBID Board meeting) at 2 PM in the BID offices - 1802 Belmont Road, NW.

3) Annual AMPBID Member Survey

It is time again for the annual survey for all members of the Adams Morgan Partnership BID.

This survey will help us to better provide services to businesses and property owners. Clarence Myers, our Safety Ambassador, and Peter Meinecke, our Summer Intern, will begin to distribute paper copies of the survey. Please take a few minutes to fill it out and either fax it back to us at: 202-234-1860, mail it to Adams Morgan Partnership, PO Box 21507, Washington, DC 20009 or give to Clarence or Peter. 5) MPD's National Night Out - August 2, 2011
National Night Out

National Night Out National Night Out (NNO) is an annual event, sponsored by the National Association of Town Watch , that takes place on the first Tuesday in August. Each year, the Metropolitan Police Department actively participates in National Night Out by rallying community members throughout the District of Columbia to join with neighbors and police officers in their PSAs to be a part of this annual event.

The National Night Out campaign involves citizens, law enforcement agencies, civic groups, businesses, neighborhood organizations and local officials from 9,500 communities from all 50 states, US territories, Canadian cities and military bases worldwide.

National Night Out is designed to:

  • Heighten crime and drug prevention awareness;
  • Generate support for, and participation in, local anticrime programs;
  • Strengthen neighborhood spirit and police-community partnerships; and
  • Send a message to criminals letting them know that neighborhoods are organized and fighting back.

National Night Out 2011
On Tuesday, August 2, thousands of DC residents will join with their neighbors, police officers and other community leaders to celebrate National Night Out. From community cookouts to open houses – block parties, candlelight vigils and athletic events – DC is gearing up for the 28th annual celebration of “America’s Night Out Against Crime.” The citywide kickoff will begin at 6 pm at the Deanwood Recreation Center in the Sixth Police District. In addition to the numerous activities at the kickoff event, communities across DC – in all seven police districts – scheduled NNO events during the late afternoon and evening hours. 6) Metro's 18-month Major Track Work Schedule

In order to accelerate efforts to improve safety and return the Metro system to a state of good repair, Metro is using a new approach to weekend track work that involves temporarily closing individual stations or clusters of stations and substituting buses for rail service. This approach will help trains operate more normally outside the work zone with fewer delays, get necessary track work done faster and safer, and inconvenience fewer customers. For example, using this new approach will enable Metro to complete NTSB-recommended track circuit replacement on the Red Line about 18 months sooner – by this time next year, as opposed to late 2013 if the work only took place during non-revenue hours.
