The Annual Meeting of the AMPBID will be Tuesday, October 10, 2017
at 5pm, at the Festival Center at 1640 Columbia Road, NW.
AMPBID Annual Meeting Election Process
At the October 10th Annual Meeting, BID members will have the opportunity to vote for candidates for 5 board slots: three property owners and two business owners.
Seats on the AMPBID board currently occupied by the following five members are up for election:
Steve Greenleigh
Pat Patrick
Jeffrey Schonberger
Jonathan Cho
Saied Azali
AMPBID Annual Meeting Election Process
Each person eligible for election as a member of the Board may be nominated by: 1) the nominating committee, or 2) by a member petition submitted to any member of the Nominating Committee at least 30 days prior to the date of the meeting (so additional nominations must be received by September 11th); provided that only business owners can nominate business owners and property owners can only nominate property owners and a petition shall require the signature of no less than ten (10) members to nominate a member of the Board. Each nominee either shall be present at the annual meeting or shall consent to such nomination by a written document.
Voting
Per the by-laws, any properties for which BID taxes are over 60 days delinquent, may not vote nor may they nominate members to the board.
For each class of member, the ballot will list all the candidate names, and members will vote for the number of open slots in that category. For example, there are two business owner slots. All members will have the opportunity to vote for two candidates from the list of all business owner candidates.
Proxies
Proxy votes are allowed.
Pursuant to the BID bylaws, those interested in voting in the board elections by proxy can either contact the BID to request a proxy form, or can develop their own form, as long as it includes: the date of the meeting at which it is applicable (October 10) full names, addresses and the dated signatures of both the individual issuing the proxy and the witness(es) to the signature. The proxy voter can be anyone to whom the property or business owner designates to vote for them and DOES NOT have to be a member of the Adams Morgan Partnership BID. All proxy forms must meet all these criteria to be accepted.
The BID will have a proxy form available by mail and by email, or they can be picked up at the AMPBID office at 1640 Columbia Rd., NW by appointment.
Any questions on this process, please call Kristen at the BID office 202-997-0783 or email her at:

Adams Morgan Day 2017 announces Columbia Stage music lineup, vendor and festival highlights, final crowdfunding campaign
Adams Morgan Day is September 10, noon to 6:00 p.m.
Guest, Volunteer and Donor Information is at
AdamsMorganDay2017.com
ADAMS MORGAN, WASHINGTON, D.C., August 29, 2017— Organizers of Adams Morgan Day 2017— the all-volunteer, grassroots celebration of Adams Morgan’s eclectic history, culture, arts, music, restaurants, businesses, and residents—announced the lineup for the festival’s Columbia Stage and a “final stretch” online crowdfunding campaign to help raise the remaining $20,000 to fund the event.
The 39th annual event, the longest-running neighborhood festival in Washington, takes place Sunday, September 10 from noon to 6:00 p.m. along the Adams Morgan business and restaurant corridors of 18th Street Northwest and Columbia Road Northwest. For the first time since 2014, part of 18th Street will be closed to motorized vehicles to make way for vendors, an interactive artists alley and live music.
Participating Adams Morgan restaurants, pubs, shops and non-profits will offer discounts, including special food and drink menus. Many businesses will host bands or offer family-friendly such as exercise classes, t-shirt tie-dying, “corn hole,” and discounts on self-service dog washing. Visual artists of all disciplines from Adams Morgan and throughout the city will be featured at exhibits and will be vending from booths. “We welcome residents and visitors alike to meet and explore our neighborhood,” says David Smith, organizer of the all-volunteer planning committee this year. “We are on target for a fun day packed with activities, live music and art, and we still have a few spaces left for vendors or day-of-event volunteers.”
The lineup at the Columbia Road Stage, presented by Songbyrd Music House and Record Café, includes “a group of fun and bold local artists and sounds that reflect the diversity of Adams Morgan, and have connections to our neighborhood where possible,” says Alisha Edmonson, co-owner of Songbyrd:
-
12:00 p.m., NAH. (DC female-fronted indie psych-rock; http://www.nahmusic.com/music/)
-
1:00 p.m., Mayor Bowser Scheduled to Speak
-
1:15 p.m., The Scotch Bonnets (Baltimore/DC ska/punk/reggae:http://www.thescotchbonnets.com/catalog/)
-
2:15 p.m. Names (DC psychedelic rock: http://names-music.com/videos-1/)
-
3:15 p.m. Batala (DC all-female percussion group: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Njfx_MnXqHM)
-
4:00 p.m. BOOMscat (DC soul/R&B: https://soundcloud.com/boomscatmusic)
-
5:00 p.m. Dupont Brass (DC brass band: https://youtu.be/4NRxpfw132I)
The lineup for the Kalorama Road Stage, presented by GrowClub DC, will be announced soon.
Closing the street is much more expensive than holding a sidewalk and indoor event, as was done in 2016 and 2015. “Fundraising is coming along, and we’re grateful to business owners, individuals and neighborhood groups that have already contributed to the event. Every donor and sponsor helps fund a fun, safe, and community-oriented event,” says A. Tianna Scozzaro, president of the Adams Morgan Community Alliance. Costs include street closure fees, permits, insurance, licensing, printing, advertising, sound equipment, DC emergency and law-enforcement presence, and more. “We also need help ensuring that this annual celebration of our historic community is sustainable to host year-to-year,” says Scozzaro.
TO DONATE:
Entrance to the event is free and there are many deals for all attendees. Three ways to donate to help planners defray the cost of the event include:
-
Make a credit card donation of any amount to Adams Morgan Day at
https://www.ioby.org/admoday
;
-

Adams Morgan Day
” noted in the check memo. Send to:
DC Arts Center
2438 18th St NW
Washington, DC 20009
-
Purchase a donation wristband through EventNation. Some businesses have partnered with Adams Morgan Day to raise funds by offering additional wristband specials for a $10 donation -
https://www.eventnation.co/event/adamsmorganday2017
Wristbands will be picked up at the event and will also be available to those who have donated through IOBY (above).

Pitango Gelato + Cafe to open in Adams Morgan
The company's fifth gelaterîa will offer an expanded concept including light fare,
as well as wine, beer and specialty drinks
August 27, 2017-- Opening this fall, Pitango Gelato + Cafe will introduce a savory menu featuring charcuterie, sandwiches and pastries along with its signature gelato, sorbets and coffee offerings. In addition, the new shop will serve beer, wine and specialty cocktails combining spirits with gelato, sorbet and coffee. Think fresh mojito sorbet with a splash of dark rum or a scoop of vanilla gelato with Amaretto.
"We're looking forward to bringing this new concept to the ever-evolving Adams Morgan neighborhood," says Pitango Gelato founder and CEO Noah Dan. "Like bar-cafés in Italy, this will be a welcoming hangout that hits the spot any time of day, whether you have a cappuccino and croissant in the morning, linger over lunch with friends, treat the kids to gelato, or enjoy an aperitivo with charcuterie."
Whether he is crafting a Prosciutto di Parma sandwich or a new gelato flavor, Dan's forté lies in combining traditional Italian methods with an almost obsessive focus on pure, simple ingredients. Like all Pitango locations, the Adams Morgan shop will churn its gelato and vegan sorbets on the premises--not in a factory. At the Adams Morgan location, guests will be able to view and taste gelato as it is being made.
Prepared with grass-fed, organic milk and fresh organic fruit and nuts, these refreshing treats offer a wholesome alternative to industrial products served by ice-cream retailers today. The company sources milk at its own dairy on Spring Wood Organic Farm in Lancaster, Pennsylvania, and its products contain no artificial flavorings, colorings, chemicals, preservatives or processed ingredients.
The Adams Morgan coffee program will feature a custom espresso blend developed exclusively for Pitango by local roaster Vigilante Coffee. The blend boasts a silky, caramel and toasty flavor that pairs well with milk. The shop's beverage menu also includes single-origin Vigilante brewed coffees and loose-leaf teas, served by baristas who undergo a month-long training program to ensure SCA (Specialty Coffee Association) standards.
Pitango Gelato + Cafe
in Adams Morgan will serve as a neighborhood hot spot from breakfast to midnight. The shop is located at 1841 Columbia Road, NW, Washington, DC.

16th Street Bus Lanes Project - Design Phase
Online Open House
August 4 - September 8
16thStreetNWBus.com
The online open house will include a narrated presentation and links to view the meeting materials. The comment period for this phase will end on September 8, 2017 at 5:00 pm. All comments can be submitted on the website, by mail, or email.
The District Department of Transportation (DDOT) has kicked-off a series of public events for the Design Phase of the 16th Street NW Bus Lanes Project. The purpose of the project is to improve bus service and reliability on the 16th Street NW corridor. At the events, DDOT will provide an overview of the project, present roadway layouts, and gather public feedback.
The public has three opportunities to give input on this phase of the project: a public meeting, an on-site engagement event at two locations, and an online open house. All events will cover the same material and provide an opportunity for public feedback. The public meeting will be open-house style with an opportunity for participants to listen to a presentation, review the roadway layouts, and provide feedback. The engagement events will be held at two high ridership bus stops: 16th and Irving Street NW and 16th and U Street NW. The online open house will include a narrated presentation and meeting materials posted to the website as well as a survey to fill out and submit your comments.
In April 2016, DDOT released the 16th Street NW Transit Priority Planning Study, which resulted in a set of recommendations to be advanced to the design phase. The recommendations included peak-hour, peak direction bus lanes, bus service changes, bus stop improvements, and transit priority infrastructure. The design phase of the 16th Street NW Bus Lanes Project will use this set of recommendations to begin environmental documentation and develop preliminary engineering designs.
