Movie Nights: Brown Bag Movie Meals
We're looking for businesses who want to participate in our "Brown Bag to Movie Nights" program again this year. Participating businesses will be promoted along with our movies every week. The beloved Adams Morgan Farmers Market is now operating at Unity Park in front of The LINE Hotel DC. Unity Park is the triangle park at the confluence of Columbia Rd., Champlain St., and Euclid St., NW. The market is celebrating its 49th year in the neighborhood. The market will be open from 8:30am - 1pm on Saturdays through Christmas.
Parking around the park will be restricted from 5am - 3pm on Saturdays for the market to allow for the vendors' trucks --
cars will be towed if they violate the parking restrictions

We have updates and insight for you this week on DC Streateries and outdoor seating areas, plus laws going into effect or expanding enforcement as of July 1.
First, in DC,
we are getting many questions from you about your Streateries or other temporary outdoor spaces. As of right now, DC Streateries, as well as new or expanded temporary ground floor or street level outdoor public or private spaces are allowed to continue operating through December 2021, unless extended by the Mayor. The Mayor’s Reopen DC Alcoholic Beverage Act of 2021, if passed by the Council, would extend the streatery program and expanded public/private outdoor spaces in both 2022 and 2023 between the months of May and October for a one time registration fee of $100. The Council is set to markup the Reopen DC Act in October. RAMW testified in support of the legislation in the Spring and we continue to advocate on behalf of our operators who would like to see this extension happen through 2023. We also know there are many operators who put ample time and money into the design and construction of more long-lasting structures and would like the Mayor to extend the program in December 2021 so that service can be continuous (without breaks between December 2021 and May 2022, and between October 2022 and May 2023.) We will keep you updated as these conversations move further.

In DC, on July 1:

Foam Ban Fines
: DOEE currently enforces the Foam Ban for foodservice ware and issues fines. DOEE began actively inspecting retail businesses for the Foam Ban in January 2021 and will begin issuing fines for retail violations on July 1, 2021.

Reducing Food Service Waste
: By July 1, 2021, third-party food ordering platforms must include the option for customers to request and select disposable utensils and other add-on items. See the Reducing Food Service Waste

PPP Round 1 Loan Forgiveness Challenges
Many in our industry nationwide are dealing with PPP Round 1 loan forgiveness as they find themselves unable to meet the loan forgiveness requirements within the 8-24 week covered period because their operations were closed or severely limited by government restrictions, or because they had too few customers during that period.
There are efforts on a national level to push legislators to understand this complicated situation and to adjust the 8-24 week period so affected operators have an opportunity to receive PPP loan forgiveness.

Active Shooter Emergency Planning
|
The threat of an active shooter is a possibility anywhere. But as with any crisis situation, preparation and planning can help to minimize chaos and injury. Establishing an active shooter protocol and communicating that plan to your employees is critical.
Your plan should:

Stress the importance of remaining calm in any violent situation

Encourage anyone involved to call 911 in an emergency

Include evacuation and lockdown procedures

Discuss how employees can observe details of the shooter in case the perpetrator leaves the premises
