Circulator Bus Promotion-increase foot traffic to your b usiness!

We are launching the Circulator Bus promotion today!

The 15 businesses that agreed to participate should have received a packet from us today.

The packet included:

1) a sample flyer so you know what they look like when people bring them into your business

2) 50 Circulator Bus passes (to give to each person who brings in a flyer. If you run out, please let us know and we'll bring you more).

3) Circulator Bus maps (to give to those who ask about where the bus will take them)

The goal of this program is to:

1) increase foot traffic into your business

2) increase ridership on the bus

3) get people to drive to Adams Morgan less and take the bus instead since there is reduced parking right now.

We are going to start placing flyers on cars during the days and early evenings that tell people if they bring to flyer into the businesses you will give them a FREE RIDE coupon to ride the bus - one per person. The regular bus fare is $1. Please keep the flyers and we'll recycle them and repeat it until the 1000 FREE Ride coupons we got from Circulator are gone.

Planning Meeting scheduled for April 25th for Operation Adams Morgan Part II

MPD Captain Aubrey Mongal notified us this week that the planning meeting for Operation Adams Morgan Part II will be on Wednesday April 25th at 4 PM at the Third District Police Department Headquarters at 1620 V Street, NW, in the Snyder Conference Room. The goal of this meeting will be to set the overall vision and goals for each and every entity that will be needed to build on the success of last year.

Some of you will remember that last Summer and Fall the Metropolitan Police Department (MPD) along with many other DC agencies including ABRA, DC FEMS, DPW and DDOT participated in an initiative called Operation Adams Morgan. The goal was to increase public safety and reduce the incidents of public nuisance crimes. Additional MPD Officers were placed in Adams Morgan along with enf orcement officers from various agencies on weekend nights. According to city officials, the initiative was successful. During the month of September 2011, there was a 40 percent reduction in overall crime and a 20 percent reduction in violent crime.

Sidewalk Cafe and Valet Parking Operations - new education/enforcement campaign to begin soon

We attended a meeting this morning at DDOT during which they announced a new multi-agency taskforce to educate and enforce sidewalk cafe and valet parking operations across the city. This program will begin in April and run through October 2012. They hope to visit every business with a sidewalk cafe or valet parking permit.

DDOT in coordination with DCRA, FEMS, ABRA, MPD, OTR and the Office of Planning are rolling out an education and records reconciliation program for sidewalk cafe and valet parking operations throughout the city. The purpose of the program is to ensure that sidewalk cafes and valet parking operations in the District are accurately reflected in the records of the District of Columbia government, that operations are conducted in a safe manner, and to bridge any gaps between those operations and regulatory requirements.

Over the course of the next several months, DDOT and their colleagues will conduct site visits to survey sidewalk cafe and valet parking operations, compare those operations and the government's records and provide information on the regulations governing those operations.

The focus is on safety issues first - i.e. do the number of chairs match the permit on file, is there FEMS access. Then they will review records.

Remember for every sidewalk cafe you need to have at least:

1) a public space permit from DDOT

2) a certificate of use from DCRA

3) if you serve alcohol in the sidewalk cafe an endorsement from ABRA

4) drawings on file at DDOT of the sidewalk cafe

This does not apply to summer garden cafes or other outdoor patios that are on private property. This education program is only for sidewalk cafes in public space.

We were told that these inspections will not occur during busy dinner time hours but for the most part will be from 2 to 5 pm and again after 8-9 pm.

We have been assured that DC government will work cooperatively with restaurants to make this process as simple, transparent and unobtrusive as possible. They will do so through general notice, direct contact in advance and professional decorum during the visits.
