The Adams Morgan Farmers Market is open for the season on
Saturdays from 8:30am – 1:00pm
, rain or shine, at UNITY PARK, Columbia Rd and Euclid St. NW. The market will be open every Saturday through December.
Music at the Farmers Market
With help from a grant from the Department of Parks and Recreation (DPR), we have hired a musician, Heidi Martin, to perform at the farmers market on Saturdays. In addition to playing folk music and jazz, she will also set aside a couple sets for children's music and will have instruments with her so they can participate. Heidi began as lead 3’s teacher with a joyous circle time. “Music 2Little Ears” grew into a creative set of children’s music performances, classes and private lessons. She is also a DC Jazz Festival Education Coordinator and a professional vocalist and composer.

The AMPBID participated in a multi-DC Government agency alley walkthrough Tuesday, June 28. This multi-agency approach is designed to help businesses and the community learn about programs and services available to help control rodent populations.
We are putting together a business and neighborhood working group to address rodent control. We ask that all businesses participate in this effort by first creating a solid foundation of cleanliness with new trash cans and clean dumpsters.
Please contact your waste hauler if your current waste containers have holes, broken or missing lids, or are old and filthy. Please request new containers and let them know that DC Government and the neighborhood are working together to address rodent control. It is imperative that the old containers be replaced. If your waste hauler does not respond or is unwilling to cooperate, please let us know.
Among the action items from the walkthrough:

Businesses should label their trash and recycling receptacles
with their address (or the name of their business). Clearly labeling your trash cans will prevent you from being fined for issues with your neighbor's garbage when inspectors are unable to determine which business is at fault.

Businesses need to have more vigilant pest control services, including bait boxes in the alley
.

We (the BID) will work with utilities to try to clean up the excess wires in the alleys.

Are You Complying with Local Ordinances?
|
If you are a DC employer with 20 or more employees, this is for you. To avoid being fined, make sure your organization is in compliance with the District’s local transportation ordinances such as the DC Commuter Benefits Law and the NEW DC Parking Cashout Law.
DC Commuter Benefits Law
Established in 2014, the DC Commuter Benefits Law requires DC businesses with 20 or more employees to offer commuter benefits such as a pre-tax transit benefit, transit/vanpool subsidy, or shuttle/vanpool service at no cost to employees.

DC Parking Cashout Law
Established in 2020, the DC Parking Cashout Law (aka Transportation Equity Amendment Act of 2020) requires DC businesses with 20 or more employees that provide free or subsidized parking to offer a Clean Air Fringe Benefit, develop a transportation demand management (TDM) plan, or pay a Clean Air Compliance fee. The first reporting requirement for this law is on January 15, 2023.

Tuition-free education and training for small business owners
|
Kaiser Permanente is excited to collaborate with
Inner City Capital Connections
(ICCC) to offer a tuition-free, virtual leadership training program that helps small businesses build capacity and resiliency for long-term sustainable growth, as well as navigate the continued impact of the COVID-19 pandemic.
A “40-hour mini-MBA,” the ICCC program provides business owners access to capital, one-on-one coaching, and short and long-term growth strategies. ICCC participants will develop strategic pivots, create an actionable growth plan, identify recovery solutions, and leave with community building resources to lead their business to success.
The 2022 ICCC Washington D.C. cohort begins on August 30th and September 1st, and interested business owners can

by August 5th.

As a reminder, ICCC recruits businesses with the following qualifications:

Be an independent, for-profit or non-profit corporation, partnership or proprietorship.

Have its headquarters or more than 51% of its physical operations located in an economically-distressed area OR have more than 40% of employees residing in an economically-distressed area.

Have revenues for the past three years, and a minimum of $150,000 in at least one of those years

Have been in operations for three years or more and must be past the proof-of-concept stage. ICCC does not accept start-up companies.

New Law Spotlight: Reopen Washington DC Alcohol Act
July 19, 10:30 am
ABRA will provide a review of key provisions included in the new law signed by Mayor Muriel Bowser including new alcohol license types and expanded consumer and business opportunities. The session will address: extending the streatery program through 2023; creating new alcohol licenses, including a commercial lifestyle license and third-party delivery license; permitting doggie bags of spirits at restaurants and hotels; and eliminating select application requirements such as notarization.
