Adams Morgan Partnership Annual Meeting

Join the Adams Morgan Partnership’s annual meeting on Tuesday, March 10th, 2020, from 9 am to 11 am at Roofers Union, 2446 18th Street, NW. Elections will be held for six positions on the Board of Directors. Join us at 9 am for a breakfast buffet before the presentations begin at 9:30 am. The featured speaker at this year's meeting will be Shawn Townsend, Director of the Mayor's Office of Nightlife and Culture . Shawn will be discussing the recently released report: Economic Impact of DC’s Nightlife Industry (pdf) .

Election Process

At the March 10th Annual Meeting, BID members will have the opportunity to vote for candidates for six board slots: four property owners and two business owners.

The nominating committee has met and has nominated the following two people to fill the current vacancies on the board:

Stephan Rodiger - property owner
Linda Roth - property owner

In addition, the following current board members are seeking to renew their positions on the board:

Jon Wilson - property owner
Adam Crain - property owner
Arianne Bennett - business owner
Jonathan Wells - business owner

Proxy votes are allowed. Each person serving as a proxy can only do so for up to five BID members. This is a new rule per the bylaws revisions.

Pursuant to the BID bylaws, those interested in voting in the board elections by proxy can either contact the BID to request a proxy form, or can develop their own form, as long as it includes: the date of the meeting at which it is applicable (March 10) full names, addresses and the dated signatures of both the individual issuing the proxy and the witness(es) to the signature. The proxy voter can be anyone to whom the BID member designates to vote for them and DOES NOT have to be a member of the Adams Morgan Partnership BID. All proxy forms must meet all these criteria to be accepted.

Proxy forms are available by mail and by email, or they can be picked up at the AMPBID office at 1640 Columbia Rd., NW by appointment.

BID Tax Bills are in the mail

BID tax bills for commercial properties are being mailed out this week.

Payments are due by March 31. If you haven't received your tax bill by Wednesday, contact Kristen Barden (202-997-0783) to obtain a digital copy.

Rock 'n' Roll Marathon Returns on March 28

As in previous years, marathon runners will be running down Calvert Street from the Ellington Bridge and turning left onto eastbound Columbia Road. Complete course and race info is available on their website .

The Metropolitan Police Department will be enforcing temporary parking restrictions on the entire race route. Cars will be ticketed and towed starting at midnight on March 27th. Residents are advised to move their cars to another location.

DC Circulator would like your feedback

District Department of Transportation (DDOT) is asking for riders to participate in the DC Circulator System Evaluation Survey. They are seeking feedback from the community about their experiences using the Circulator bus system or their reasons for not using the Circulator if they are not currently a rider. Your responses will be strictly confidential and used only for internal analysis.

Offer your customers parking validation at Colonial Garage

Adams Morgan businesses can validate parking for free so customers will only pay $8 for up to 4 hours parking (until 5pm) at the Colonial Garage at 2421 18th St., NW. All Adams Morgan businesses are eligible to participate in the validation program, but they must go to the Colonial Parking to ask for the two-hour and four-hour validation cards. Businesses that would like to participate can find more information on the program here .

Stevens Early Learning Center opening in August

Stevens Early Learning Center (ELC) will be DC Public School's (DCPS) first citywide, standalone ELC opening August 2020 at 1050 21st Street NW.

The Stevens ELC will offer both a DCPS early childhood (PK3-PK4) program and an infant and toddler program operated by Bright

Beginnings, a community-based organization. Co-located in the same building, DCPS is excited to offer a unique opportunity for families be

part of a school serving students from infancy to PK4. The goal of the Stevens ELC is to increase overall PK3 and PK4 capacity in a growing

area, build DCPS’ capacity to serve young learners with special needs, and to provide an opportunity to cultivate a socioeconomic- and

ability-diverse school community.

WMATA has added real-time rail information to Apple Maps ! Apple users riding the Metro will see detailed train schedules, live departure and arrival times, and current train and bus locations sourced from WMATA in the palm of their hand. Check it out now so you can improve your Metro trip planning.

In other mobile news, OurStreets has officially launched! This new, locally-developed app allows you to report traffic safety violations including blocked bike lanes, illegal parking, speeding, and aggressive or distracted driving directly to the Department of For-Hire Vehicles. The app may also soon share data with other city agencies, including the Department of Public Works and the Department of Transportation. OurStreets is meant to be a deterrent for dangerous driving behavior as well as an outlet for riders to express their safety frustrations while also contributing toward action in DC's streets. DC Business Toolkit

If you have not gotten the chance yet, check out the DC Business Toolkit . The DC Business Toolkit is an interactive online portal that centralizes the vast number of business assistance resources that are available citywide through DSLBD, sister agencies and service providers. This allows District businesses and residents exploring entrepreneurship to quickly find and use these tools to open, operate and grow their business in the District of Columbia.

Additionally, the DC Business Toolkit helps businesses promote themselves to prospective customers and make unique B2B connections with local vendors. Some examples of business assistance resources include: funding, classes, forms, regulatory guidance, coaching.

Competition for Robust Retail Grants is Now Open

The DC Department of Small and Local Business Development (DSLBD) is accepting applications for the Robust Retail grants which will award up to $10,000 to 40 retail business owners with stores anywhere within the District of Columbia. Home-based businesses and nonprofit organizations are not eligible for this grant.

This grant is targeted to retail businesses which might be struggling to stay open, trying to grow, and/or trying to adapt their business model to meet market changes. The grant can be used for any type of expense made between April 1 and August 31, 2020, except an expense which has been funded by a Great Streets grant.

This grant has a rolling deadline of January 15 to March 15. Grants will be awarded during the open deadline period so don’t wait until March 15th to apply, because all the funds could be gone by then. You must have a District of Columbia business license, a Dun & Bradstreet number, and an ARIBA supplier number in order to apply.

The DCPS Career Ready Internship Program partners with DC's Summer Youth Employment Program to place highly-qualified students in competitive, paid internships in their career field of interest -- at no cost to host employers -- students are paid $10 per hour for the 6 week internship.
