100th Anniversary of the Knickerbocker Theater Disaster
|
Join the Adams Morgan community on
Friday, January 28th
at 6:00pm
for a candlelit memorial marking the 100th Anniversary of the Knickerbocker Theatre Disaster. Learn about the largest, peacetime single-day loss of life in the history of the District of Columbia and hear the stories of those who tragically lost their lives when the roof of the theater collapsed under a record 28-inches snow. There will also be a reading of the names of the victims of the tragedy.
The event will take place at 6PM at the public plaza at 1801 Adams Mill Road, NW near the bulletin board kiosk so we can look to the opposite corner where the Knickerbocker once stood.

Save the Date! Adams Morgan Partnership Annual Meeting
|
The Adams Morgan Partnership BID (AMPBID) annual meeting will be held on Tuesday, March 8 at 5pm.
We will have elections for 5 positions on the Board of Directors (3 property owners and 2 business owners). Additional nominations (per the process in our bylaws) will be accepted until January 27th (40 days prior to the meeting). The ballot will also include a vote on revisions to the AMPBID Bylaws. The revised bylaws will be mailed along with the ballots in early February. All members of the BID should have received a postcard with details about the meeting.

Bridge Fund Application:
$40 Million Fund to Assist Businesses
|
The $40 million Bridge Fund will offer grants to support the recovery and long-term viability of brick-and-mortar small businesses in the restaurant, retail, and entertainment industries that have been significantly affected by the COVID-19 pandemic.
Award
Awards will range from $20,000-$100,000. This program will prioritize businesses that have not received federal relief funds (Paycheck Protection Program) and microbusinesses with $2.5 million or less in revenue.
Use of Award

Business rent/mortgage (at least 50% of the award must be applied to rent)
-
Payroll and labor
-
Inventory (supplies but not merchandise for sale)

Operating expenses
Eligible businesses
The Bridge Fund will be open to businesses that meet the following criteria:

A small business in the restaurant, retail, or entertainment sector
-
Has an active DC Basic Business License and an active ABRA License, if applicable
-
For-profit, small business physically located in the District of Columbia at a brick-and-mortar location
-
Generated no more than $5 million in gross receipts each in 2019, 2020, and 2021
-
During the period April 1, 2020 to December 31, 2021, able to demonstrate at least a 30% loss of revenue when comparing the best consecutive three-month period with the worst consecutive three-month period

Please be advised the National Weather Service is forecasting a snowfall event beginning Friday (1/28). The District Snow Team will begin pretreatment operations and spread brine on streets on Wednesday (1/26) and Thursday (1/27) from 7:00PM until 7:00AM.
It is recommended that restaurant owners along the treated routes bring in all furniture and other elements within the outdoor dining areas, except for the barriers. Failure to do so may result in damage to the furniture or other streatery materials.
Business owners should clear their sidewalks, parklets, and streateries of snow within eight (8) daylight hours of the storm's end. As the business owner you are responsible for clearing out all snow within the outdoor dining area and ensuring sidewalks are accessible.
If the weather prediction indicates a significant accumulation of snow, the Mayor may declare a snow emergency. Whenever possible, a snow emergency declaration will be made before the snow event begins to give businesses enough time to prepare their expanded outdoor spaces for inclement weather. Once a snow emergency is in effect, businesses may not utilize their streatery or parklet.

The Great Streets Retail Small Business Grant is the hallmark grant opportunity for the Great Streets program. The grant has helped hundreds of small businesses renovate their storefront to attract new customers and drive profitability.
The purpose of the grant is to support existing small businesses, attract new businesses, and transform designated commercial corridors into thriving and inviting neighborhood centers.

This session will provide time for applicants to ask questions about the FY22 Great Streets Retail Small Business Grant .
Sessions begin Friday, January 21 and occur daily from 1:00 pm – 1:45 pm until Friday, January 28, 2022.

The annual "Jump Start Your Business" seminar, hosted virtually again this year by Women of Prince George's, describes how the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) can help woman-owned small businesses contract with the federal government.
In addition to hearing from Deputy Associate Administrator Antonio Doss and other guest speakers, attendees will receive important SBA program updates from Deputy District Director Shuraie Mackin of the Washington Metropolitan Area District Office.

Microbusiness Owners of Color Survey
|
NCRC’s Racial Economic Equity Team (REE) has partnered with a financial services and digital payments company to explore small business-related resource organizations who are developing resources and programming in support of local BIPOC entrepreneurs and microbusinesses.
Part of this project entails understanding the challenges and opportunities BIPOC entrepreneurs are facing today as the economy recovers from COVID-19. We ensure that the survey responses will not be publicized, and is secured in a confidential and private repository.

MetroNow’s Bus Transformation Project Progress Report

On behalf of the MetroNow Coalition, the Greater Washington Partnership invites you to attend a public briefing to review MetroNow’s Bus Transformation Progress Report and the 2022 Bus Champions Roundtable.
The MetroNow Coalition produced the Bus Transformation Project Progress Report to measure progress against the BTP strategy's recommendations, and more importantly, to call the region to action. By prioritizing better bus service we can improve the lives of hundreds of thousands of people who use the bus today – increasing access to opportunity, strengthening the regional economy, and creating a regionally coordinated bus network that will grow ridership and reduce greenhouse gas emissions from transportation.
Transforming bus service will require a combination of sustained political will, capital, and operating funding. Following the release of the Progress Report, the MetroNow Coalition will host the 2022 Bus Champions Roundtable -- a series of moderated discussions with the region’s key business, transportation, and elected leaders with an overarching goal of identifying and cultivating a generation of “bus champions” and accelerating regional bus transformation.

The Department of Small and Local Business Development (DSLBD) is excited to announce they we will be accepting applications for the first round of Food Waste Innovation Grants.
These grants will provide support for restaurants, food manufacturers, shared commercial kitchens, and commercial corridors like Main Streets and Business Improvement Districts, to minimize food waste.
Reducing food waste in the District’s food businesses can cut food and waste costs, reduce rodents, and reduce carbon emissions.
