Fashion's Night Out - September 6 - Not just for retailers!

In 2009, Vogue magazine's Editor-in-Chief Anna Wintour wanted to stimulate the country's slow economy with a night that would specifically focus on getting consumers back into stores.

As a result, Fashion’s Night Out is now an unprecedented global initiative to celebrate fashion, restore consumer confidence, boost the industry’s economy during the recession, and put the fun back in shopping! The
Annual Fashion's Night Out (FNO) will take place on Thursday, September 6, 2012 from 6 pm to 11 pm.
Earlier this month, DC Deputy Mayor Victor Hoskins sent an official letter of support to Vogue magazine stating that the DC Fashion Foundation and Destination DC will work together to create a citywide FNO plan for the District.
There is a FNO-DC Task Force that is working together to help retailers plan and market FNO events in an effort to stimulate the retail economy throughout the city and celebrate this amazing event in every quadrant in the District so that the entire city will be represented during FNO.
The official Fashion's Night Out website for Washington, DC is live: www.fashionsnightout-dc.com . We are also tweeting about everything at @FNO_DC.
SOOOOO all of this is to say that we have a great group of Adams Morgan Retailers participating in official FNO events:
Violet Boutique
Toro Mata: The Art of Peru
Skynear Designs
Malik Tienda
Meeps
Commonwealth/Stussy
SMASH!

...and NOW we we want all of the rest of Adams Morgan businesses to take advantage of the people coming to Adams Morgan for FNO by turning this into an Adams Morgan-wide event.

So we will give all the retailers participating in FNO wrist bands that they will give their customers. These wrist bands will enable customers to get discounts in other Adams Morgan businesses.....SOOOOO even if you aren't a retailer you can participate by offering 10% off all purchases or more, or a free drink or appetizer, or whatever incentive you would like to offer. Please let Kristen at kbarden@adamsmorganonline.org or Julie at Violet at julie@violetdc.com know what you will be offering ASAP. We need to compile this list no later than August 28th.

So far we have: Bardia's New Orleans Cafe is offering 15% each check that evening and Lunar Massage is offering 10% off all services and gift cards purchased that evening. Sweet Themez is offering buy 4 cupcakes and get 2 free while B&K News is doing 50% off all magazines and DVDs. Please add your business to this list!

As we did for Crafty Bastards last year, we'll publish this complete list and have it available at all participating businesses. Hope many Adams Morgan businesses can participate in Fashion's Night Out this year!

50% off dinner at The Diner on Monday August 27 from 5 pm to 11 pm

The Diner Menu Returns to Its Roots

Restaurant Celebrates Updated Menu with 50% Dinner Special This Monday from 5 to 11 p.m.

When The Diner in Adams Morgan opened its doors in 2000 it the menu was one page, back and front, full of dishes that were high quality and injected a sense of playful spin on diner fare. To celebrate the newly launched menu, reminiscent to the one presented 13 years ago, this Monday, from 5 to 11 p.m., The Diner will allow patrons to try out the new menu at 50% off.

The intention at the core of this menu change has always been to fully realize The Diner's mission statement of "exceeding the culinary expectations of the traditional diner".

“In reducing the size of our menu, we've done our best to focus on the dishes that we are proudest of, the ones that exemplify what we do best, and the ones that add an unexpected twist to comfort food classics,” explains The Diner GM, Clementine Thomas. “It's in many ways a return to our roots.”

Featured new items include:

* Bread Pudding French Toast with citrus whipped cream and fresh berries
* Homemade Pimento & Cheese Dip
* Grilled Chicken Sandwich with homemade onion marmalade, tomato aioli and crispy potato chips

* The Boss Hog- a signature pulled pork sandwich smothered in homemade BBQ sauce and topped with broccoli slaw

* Bacon Wrapped Meatloaf

* Grilled Salmon served over jalapeno cheese grits with cremini mushrooms and pesto citrus butter

* Angel Hair Pasta tossed with farmer's market raw tomato sauce (much lighter and summery than typical marinara).

Other menu changes include a separate late night menu.

The Diner, located at 2453 18th Street NW is open 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Full menus can be accessed online at http://www.dinerdc.com/ .

For more information about Monday’s promotion, The Diner or any of their sister restaurants please contact Stacey Price at 202.674.2005.

If you are an Adams Morgan business and would like to feature an upcoming special event or sale, please email the details to Kristen at: Kbarden@adamsmorganonline.org We try to include an announcement from at least one business in the newsletter each week.

DDOT hosts Public Parking Think Tank on August 28 and September 18

DDOT Seeking Public Input on Parking in the District

All Who Live, Work or Visit in the District Are Encouraged to Participate

The District Department of Transportation (DDOT) is hosting a series of community conversations, called Parking Think Tanks , to gauge the state of parking and to solicit public input on the future of parking in the District. DDOT envisions that these conversations will contribute to the development of a comprehensive curbside parking management plan.

In the ten years since DDOT’s establishment both the District and the role of transportation have changed dramatically.  The population has grown; vehicle ownership has declined; transportation options and choices have greatly expanded; and more people are taking advantage of these new options.  DDOT is asking for citizen input to develop strategies and recommendations to better balance the parking needs of everyone -employees, residents, and visitors – who competes for a share of the limited curb space.

The goal of parking management in the District is to improve mobility and convenience by:

* Preserving access to parking in residential areas for residents;

* Promoting and facilitating commerce by prioritizing customer and commercial vehicle access in commercial areas; and

* Ensuring the safety of all transportation users including pedestrians, bicyclists, transit users, and motorists.

DDOT is seeking comments and recommendations on a number of its current parking programs such as the Residential and Visitor Permit Parking (RPP) programs, Performance Based Parking, parking meters, the management of reserved / restricted spaces (such as commercial loading, car sharing, ADA parking, etc.) and bicycle and scooter parking accommodations. Details about DDOT’s current parking programs are available online at http://ddot.dc.gov/DC/DDOT/Services/Parking+Services . In addition, DDOT is seeking suggestions for future parking enhancement opportunities.

Anyone who visits, lives or works in the District is invited to attend a Parking Think Tank and/or to share their input via an online survey.  The input received will help shape future parking policies and programs to create a more efficient use of parking resources.

The following Parking Think Tanks are scheduled to take place as follows:

Tuesday, August 28, 2012

2 p.m. - 4 p.m.

One Judiciary Square (Old Council Chambers)

441 4th Street, NW

Tuesday, September 18, 2012

6:30 p.m. - 8:30 p.m.

Ora Glover Community Room

1800 Good Hope Road, SE

The schedule for the additional Parking Think Tanks, the online survey and the information that will be presented at these meetings will be made available online at ddot.dc.gov/ParkingThinkTanks . The same DDOT presentation will be made at each Parking Think Tank.

Following the Parking Think Tanks, DDOT will host a public summit to report on the input received from the public; how the input may potentially shape the outcome of comprehensive curbside parking management plan; and the agency’s next steps.

Questions and requests for additional information may be directed to Angelo Rao at 202-671-1370 or angelo.rao@dc.gov .
