Bike to Work Day 2014 - May 16th

On Friday May 16, 2014 Commuter Connections and, Adams Morgan non-profit, the Washington Area Bicyclist Association (WABA) invites you to join over 10,000 area commuters for a celebration of bicycling as a clean, fun, and healthy way to get to work. Attend one of 79 pit stops throughout D.C., Maryland, and Virginia to receive refreshments, and be entered into a raffle for bicycles being given away. Participants who register by May 9th will receive a FREE Bike to Work Day t-shirt, and every pit stop offers raffle prizes, food, drinks and more. Registration is still open however t-shirts are NOT guaranteed now. The BTWD web site is : www.biketoworkmetrodc.org

We have partnered with City Bikes for our Adams Morgan pit stop again.  City Bikes will be donating a bike for the raffle and will have their very popular bike clinic too. Tryst is donating coffee, fruit and bages. Lunar Massage will be on hand passing out power bars for cyclists. Also joining us will be representatives of the DC Tour de Cure:

America's Ride to Stop Diabetes sponsored by the American Diabetes Association and Rails to Trails Conservancy .

Any Adams Morgan business is welcome to join us by donating give aways and food for the more than 450 people who are registered for our pit stop. Just bring them tomorrow morning to Unity Park at Columbia Road /Euclid and Champlain Streets. We'll be there from 7:30 to 9:30 am. Set up begins at 6:30 am.

If you have already registered, please help us spread the word! Pass this poster around to coworkers, post about your participation on social media, maybe even encourage a bike newbie to join you.

Movie Nights at Marie Reed Field with PTA - May 20, June 10 and June 24th

Adams Morgan Movie Nights:  May 20, June 10, and June 24

Community film series have been enthusiastically supported across the city, and the Adams Morgan Partnership BID is excited about presenting one here with the Marie Reed PTA.

Adams Morgan Movie Nights will be held at the new soccer field next to the Marie Reed Elementary School at 2201 18th Street, NW, corner of 18th and California Streets, NW and will be a family friendly way to bring the community together, broaden the perception of what Adams Morgan has to offer and will benefit residents and businesses alike.

The recent upgrades to the site, including hillside seating, make this one of the best neighborhood screening locations in the city. This season’s series will include a range of award winning films with an emphasis on classic and/or animated features.

The movies will be:

Tuesday May 20th at dusk : (as choosen by the Prince of Petworth poll)

Up - “By tying thousands of balloons to his home, 78-year-old Carl sets out to fulfill his lifelong dream to see the wilds of South America. Russell, a wilderness explorer 70 years younger, inadvertently becomes a stowaway.”

Tuesday, June 10th at dusk : All the President’s Men - “Reporters Woodward and Bernstein uncover the details of the Watergate scandal that leads to President Nixon’s resignation.”

Tuesday, June 24th at dusk : Rushmore - “The king of Rushmore prep school is put on academic probation.”

The Adams Morgan Partnership BID is organizing this series along with the Marie Reed Elementary School Parent Teacher Association, which will be selling refreshments at the event to raise funds for the school.

There will be FREE bike valet available each night by Two Wheel Valet (May 20) and City Bikes (June 10 and 24th). Local favorites Pleasant Pops will be selling their eclectic (and delicious) homemade popsicles on site, and the Marie H. Reed Elementary School PTA will have popcorn and cold drinks available.

Limited edition screen-printed tote bags containing deals and gifts from Adams Morgan businesses will be handed out to the first 150 attendees each night by City Paper Readers Poll “Best of DC” winners Meeps so get there early.

Sixth Annual Summer Concert series continues on SATURDAY MAY 17th

There will be another fantastic line up of bands playing in the BB&T Plaza at Columbia Road and Adams Mill Road for six Saturdays in May and June from 5 to 7 pm (May 3, May 17th, May 31, June 7, June 21 and June 28).

Minimum wage goes up on July 1

We wanted to remind Adams Morgan businesses that DC announced mid-year minimum wage increases. These increases become effective July 1.

The following shows the increases in non-tipped or tipped amounts per hour by state.
