Movie Screening at The Line Hotel

WHUT/ITVS Indie Lens Pop-Up invites all our music-loving neighbors to The LINE Hotel in Adams Morgan for a preview screening of RUMBLE: The Indians Who Rocked the World , a film that explores the profound and missing chapter in the history of American music: the Indigenous influence. The film will broadcast in January as part of the PBS series “Independent Lens.” This screening will be Thursday, November 29, 7-9 PM at The LINE Hotel, 1770 Euclid Street, NW. First Annual Adams Morgan Holiday Market

Because of the rain during Adams Morgan Day the organizers plan to host a holiday event to allow artists and vendors another opportunity to showcase their work! The holiday market will showcase 50 local artists, vendors, and businesses from the D.C. area on December 8th and 9th from 11am - 5pm on plazas near 18th and Columbia Road in Adams Morgan. (Exact locations to be confirmed)

They need your help ! They are looking for volunteers to help with vendors, gift-wrapping, and generally staffing the Adams Morgan Day booth. Please sign up for a shift here , and feel free to invite friends.

It's Christmas Tree Time!

Licking Creek Bend Farm will again be offering pesticide-free trees at at the farmers market, and, of course their trees are cut within a few days of your pickup.

Info from the farmers:

Because of the increased demand for chemical-free trees, we will have limited numbers of some of our varieties. And in an effort to improve our system, we’ll be limiting our pick-up days to Friday – Monday, unless by special request. And, please order as early as possible but no less than 1 week in advance of your pick-up. Michael will be delivering trees only once a week so the earlier you order the better for us and the better chance we won’t run out of your variety.

Because our inventory is smaller this year, order:

As early as possible (follow the order instructions below) including the date you will pick up (a Friday-Monday). If you have a special pick-up circumstance, we will do our best to meet that need. But we hope to limit the pick-up days to Friday-Monday.
Please be ready to have a second variety choice if needed.
Again, this year, our payment method is cash or checks.

For Adams Morgan pick-ups, we bring your tree to our market on Saturdays (8:00am- 1:00pm). Folks walking by always see a tree they like, but if it is tagged, we won't sell it. However, by 1:00pm, if you have not picked up your tree (and we haven't heard from you by phone - 240 505-6281 or 6282), we might sell it to someone who really wants it and comes back to see if it was picked up. So, be sure you select a Saturday you can pick up, or, contact us with changes.

HOW TO ORDER :

Email the following information, and remember to order as early as possible but at least one week in advance of the date you want to pick up: NAME, EMAIL, PHONE NUMBER, TYPE OF TREE, HEIGHT, PICK UP DATE (please be specific), PLACE TO PICK UP – Adams Morgan or Takoma Park, WREATH ORDER, ROPING (#ft) - decorative (not rope for securing the tree – that you need to bring), HOLLY SPRIGS, BOUGH (pieces of cut trees for decoration)

Our prices continue our commitment to making trees affordable. We accept cash or checks. Please talk with us about special considerations. We want to be sure everyone can have a joyous Christmas. Keep in mind we are a small grower and mostly cut to order.

If you are planning to give a tree as a gift to a teacher, a limited-income family, or community worker, you can have them contact us to come and pick one out in your price-range. We discount gift trees . If you know of a family who can’t afford a tree, we’ll have a limited number of trees we can donate anonymously. Plus we donate to some to shelters.

Support Your Bus Line: Take Metro’s Survey

Metro is encouraging customers to participate in the 2018 Bus Passenger Survey to determine funding allocations, support planning efforts, and collect data. Over the next several months, surveys will be distributed aboard buses by trained research contractors. Please complete the survey each time you receive one. Customers can remain anonymous or provide their information for a chance to win a $100 SmarTrip card.

Tips from MPD to Keep Your Business Safe from Theft Over The Holidays

As the holiday season picks up ensure the store has adequate staffing at all times. This limits all employees from being distracted
Place popular theft items and high dollar merchandise behind the counter or near the register where employees often are stationed
Hire a security firm or have MPD officers apply for outside employment, if not for the full year, at least during the holiday season
Employ security cameras and other crime prevention equipment and ensure it works
Have your company loss prevention officer do an assessment of the property

Free2Move app gives you access to all the shared cars, scooters, bikes, and rides in your city right in one app.
Same Ride is an on-demand carpool app specifically for express lanes commutes. Users can find commuting partners a week or even a few hours before their commute.
incenTrip is a multimodal trip planning and traveler information app with a twist. Users can earn reward points for each trip you plan with incenTrip and exchange reward points for your gift cards, transit passes, EZ pass credits, rideshare, or cash.
Waze Carpool connects drivers and riders going in the same direction. The app also allows you to choose the people you want to carpool with based on detailed profiles, star ratings, and filters like same-gender & coworkers only.
Google Commute is the new feature on Google Maps that allows users to take control of their daily commute. The new commute tab that provides one-tap access to live traffic and transit information tailored to your commute.

Plastic Straws Outlawed

Effective Oct. 29, 2018, plastic straws and stirrers are no longer allowed in District of Columbia restaurants and businesses in an effort to reduce plastic waste. Compostable and/or reusable straws and stirrers may include including paper, bamboo, hay, stainless steel, and glass.
