DDOT Invites Public Comment on Revised Rules for Vision Zero
The District Department of Transportation (DDOT) invites the public to comment on the revised rulemaking for Vision Zero. Public comments will be accepted through Monday, March 6, 2017.
Vision Zero is the Bowser Administration's plan to eliminate all traffic fatalities and serious injuries by the year 2024. The revised rulemaking is based on input the agency received in written comments, and hearing testimony last fall.
“The District is committed to Vision Zero and we understand that public input is essential for us to realize our goal of zero traffic fatalities and zero serious injuries,” said DDOT Director Leif Dormsjo. “We have revised the rules to reflect the input we heard from the public and look forward to enhancing our efforts to address behaviors such as excessive speeding that we know cost lives."
The revised Vision Zero proposal strikes a balance between strengthening deterrents of dangerous behavior, and establishing a new framework for penalties that are both proportional to existing fine regimes, and reflective of the fatal consequences of violations.
DDOT welcomes feedback on these newly proposed rules. Any interested person may send comments electronically to publicspace.policy@dc.gov.

Employer Recognition Nominations Accepted through February 3, 2017
Nominations are being accepted for the 2017 Employer Recognition Awards. This is the twentieth annual event recognizing employers within the Washington D.C. area that have gone above and beyond to encourage employees to bike, walk, vanpool, carpool, telework, and/or use public transportation.
Employers can submit a nomination in one of three categories:

Incentives
– Employers who provide exceptional benefits, incentives, and amenities to make using alternative transportation modes easier and more attractive than driving alone.

Marketing
– Employers who develop creative and innovative ways of promoting the use of alternative commuting options within the workplace.

Telework
– Employers who initiated or expanded a successful telework program.

SafeTrack Surge 12 is Coming
Blue Line Segment Will Shut Down for 18 Days
Metro's yearlong SafeTrack program returns next week with Surge 12. Beginning Saturday, February 11 and continuing through Tuesday, February 28, Blue Line riders will be impacted with a full line segment shutdown between Pentagon and Rosslyn stations. Commuters who normally use the Blue Line to commute from Northern Virginia into DC should use Yellow Line trains.
