1) SAVE THE DATE: October 13th Annual Meeting and board elections

Annual Meeting - October 13

The Annual Meeting of the AMPBID will be Tuesday, October 13, 2015 at 5pm, at the Festival Center at 1640 Columbia Road, NW. Postcards were mailed to all property owners and business owners in August.

AMPBID Annual Meeting Election Process

At the October 13th Annual Meeting, BID members will have the opportunity to vote for candidates for 5 board slots: three property owners and two business owners. Four board members currently holding those positions have been renominated for another term and have agreed to serve if elected.

Those are:

* Jessica White, property owner

* Matt Wexler, property owner

* Louis Courembis, property owner

* Constantine Stavropoulos, business owner

One business owner, Joanna Robinson, is leaving the board at the end of the term and Justin Abad, from Cashion's and Pop's Sea Bar, has been nominated to run for her seat.

AMPBID Annual Meeting Election Process

Each person eligible for election as a member of the Board may be nominated by: 1) the nominating committee, or 2) by a member petition submitted to the Chair of the Nominating Committee (Steve Greenleigh) at least 30 days prior to the date of the meeting (so additional nominations must be received by September 13th - no additional nominations were received other than the Nominating Committee's recomendations); provided that only business owners can nominate business owners and property owners can only nominate property owners and a petition shall require the signature of no less than ten (10) members to nominate a member of the Board. Each nominee either shall be present at the annual meeting or shall consent to such nomination by a written document.

Voting

Per the by-laws, any properties for which BID taxes are over 60 days delinquent, may not vote nor may they nominate members to the board.

For each class of member, the ballot will list all the candidate names, and members will vote for the number of open slots in that category. For example, there are two business owner slots. All members will have the opportunity to vote for two candidates from the list of all business owner candidates.

Proxies

Proxy votes are allowed.

Pursuant to the BID bylaws, those interested in voting in the board elections by proxy can either contact the BID to request a proxy form, or can develop their own form, as long as it includes: the date of the meeting at which it is applicable (October 13) full names, addresses and the dated signatures of both the individual issuing the proxy and the witness(es) to the signature. The proxy voter can be anyone to whom the property or business owner designates to vote for them and DOES NOT have to be a member of the Adams Morgan Partnership BID. All proxy forms must meet all these criteria to be accepted.

The BID will have a proxy form available by fax, mail and by email.

3) Adams Morgan Porch Fest - October 3

We’re on our third year of Adams Morgan PorchFest — a celebration of the

deep musical talent that exists in the DC metro area. Last year 40+ musicians/

bands participated including members of the National Symphony Orchestra.

We transformed the front porches, patios and stoops of Adams Morgan

homes and businesses into “stages for a day” where local talent could be

heard by all for free. It was a ton of fun, thanks to many of you, with dozens

of local music acts playing about at a dozen locations in Adams Morgan.

Neighbors gathered, kids danced, and the streets came alive thanks to the

generosity of musicians sharing their art.

We’re doing it again Saturday October 3rd from 3pm-7pm. From famous jazz

legends like Charlie Byrd and Keter Betts to homegrown soul acts like Father’s

Children, Adams Morgan has a rich music tradition that PorchFest hopes to

continue.

We have enough porches and musicians this year so please help us spread

the word about Adams Morgan PorchFest.  We’d like to grow this bigger and

better each year. We do still need volunteers to staff each of the porches.

Friday October 16 at 12 noon with your name, phone number and type of

apple pie you will make. Local Adams Morgan businesses are welcome to

enter the competition.

Anyone who enters before the cut off can select their apples at the Licking

Creek Bend Farm stand at the Adams Morgan Farmer’s Market on Saturday,

October 17 FOR FREE.

Please bring a card with your ingredients so that we may accommodate dietary

restrictions. Please make a minimum of 3 pies.

You can make more but please let us know how many you plan to make.

We hope that folks will be able to enjoy tasting the pies as well.

5) Great Streets Grants - DEADLINE EXTENDED and clarification about annual revenue!

DMPED announced its 2016 Great Streets Retail Small Business Reimbursement Grant Notice in the July 24th DC Register.


This year eligible businesses may apply for up to $50,000.  Adams Morgan is included in this year's eligible corridors thanks to legislation that we asked CM Graham to introduce in March 2014 and which CM Nadeau helped complete earlier this year.

DC Office of Planning's Adams Morgan Vision Framework Open House - September 30th

Wednesday, September 30th from 7:30 – 9:00 p.m. , (immediately following the ANC 1C Public Services & Environment Committee meeting), the DC Office of Planning (OP) will host a community open house for the Adams Morgan Vision Framework at Marie Reed Elementary School .

The purpose of the open house is to provide an opportunity for the public to view the draft goals and recommendations and for OP to take any additional feedback before issuing a draft document for public comment.

DDOT's 16th Street Transit Priority Planning meeting on September 30th

The third meeting of the Citizen's Advisory Group (CAG) for the 16th Street NW Transit Priority Planning study is, as all other CAG meetings, open to the public. The study team will present to the CAG members and the public about the following items:

1.  Review of Three Draft Alternatives
2.  Next Steps

As a reminder, this study focuses on 16th Street NW between H Street and Arkansas Avenue, in an effort to improve transit performance and reliability. The 16th Street line currently serves over 20,000 bus riders each weekday, but suffers from slow travel speeds, pass-bys, and bus bunching.

This planning study will evaluate a range of physical and operational improvements, including transit lanes, based on impacts to transit performance, multimodal mobility, and safety. moveDC, the District’s long-range transportation plan, identified 16th Street as a transit priority corridor.

If you'd like a quantity of TOMATOES for sauce, canning, salsa, etc., now's the time to order them.  The PLUM (also called ITALIAN) HEIRLOOM varieties we grow make the best sauce and they are a t the h eight of their se ason. But come early to get these "seconds" for .99/lb specials.  We're expecting frost this week which will cut our tomato harvest time, so enjoy these next few weeks of tomatoes!  the nights on the farm have been going into the 40's, which slow down the tomatoes.

The unusually shaped with pretty colors, HEIRLOOM CHERRY TOMATOES have gotten rave reviews.  The chefs we wholesale to can't get enough of them. Try them.  These are on their way out for the season.
