A Message from the Adams Morgan Partnership

George Floyd’s murder was a terrible tragedy which brings to the surface just how much work we have to do in as a country and as a city to dismantle systemic racism and to heal our communities. We unequivocally support the right to protest peacefully.

The violence and destruction hurts our neighborhoods and the city we love. After this weekend’s protest, the Adams Morgan Partnership along with other DC BIDs are focusing on evaluating damage in their areas. BIDs are working closely with partners in the city to clean up their neighborhoods and to prepare for the potential of ongoing unrest in the days to come

BIDs are also distributing PPE supplies to local businesses (see item below) opening in Phase 1 and sharing safety information through their networks, keeping neighborhoods informed about the public health crisis, the recovery process and how to keep safe.

Today, Mayor Bowser announced that DC will be under curfew from 7pm to 6am starting tonight and again tomorrow night.

What you need to know and do:

• The City recommends that businesses close down service a few hours before curfew allowing time for employees and business owners to get home safely and to allow the city to prepare properly for all forms of protest matters. This is not mandated but encouraged.
• Parking will be restricted beginning at 4pm today . You will not be able to park on the street between the 500 and 2000 blocks of K Street NW. Cars will be towed.
• It has not been announced that streets will be closed, but you should assume there will be a perimeter area the closer you get to the White House.
• Chief of Police Newsham warned that people disobeying the curfew will be taken into custody.
• In the interest of public safety, take note of WMATA’s service changes for today: Rail system will close at 8PM (one hour earlier) and Bus service will end at 9PM (two hours earlier).

As vandalism, looting and fires have occurred throughout DC, the City is asking businesses to take preventative measures.

• If you have not already done so, please remove outdoor furniture, planters, etc that could be easily moved.
• If you choose to board up your business, it is important to board up properly in order for it to be effective. Utilize plywood to board up windows and glass doors.
• For those who do not board up and have high-value items in sight from the street such as computers, fully-stocked bars, and other valuables, please plan to remove them.

Chief Newsham and the City are urging all business owners who have images or video footage of individuals who have destroyed property or harmed individuals to call the police headquarters command center at (202) 727-9099. You can also text tips to MPD, or use your cell phone to send pictures or video to the Metropolitan Police Department by texting to the number 50411. Text, photo and video messages are monitored by members of the department 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

Update from HSEMA

The District will provide a safe space for our residents, small business community, and for those who wish to exercise their First Amendment right through nonviolent protest. We continue to pay close attention to the events that started over the weekend and remain alert to the potential for public safety threats emerging in the District.

Regrettably, we saw many businesses vandalized and looted, and several buildings set on fire over the weekend. As we continue to support the public interest in permitting individuals and groups to exercise their First Amendment-protected rights, we remain concerned for continued unrest in the District.

Our public safety and emergency management agencies are actively monitoring social media and investigating activity related to looting, rioting and targeting of specific businesses or facilities. High-end stores and banks are often convenient targets for criminal actors and may serve as symbolic targets for certain anarchist or anti-capitalist ideologies.

GUIDANCE & TIPS

We encourage following the guidance of public safety and emergency management officials and taking appropriate steps in advance of escalating incidents, including:

• Securing portable electronic devices and other property or merchandise of value when businesses are closed;
• Securing dumpsters by locking lids with chains and securing or removing loose items or property that may be used as a weapon or means to break into businesses, such as tables, chairs, portable signs, trash cans, or scooters;
• Removing trash totes, landscaping rocks, and newspaper boxes;
• Watching for pre-existing damage to masonry or facades, including loose bricks that may be used as projectiles, and
• Checking loading docks and removing or securing items, closing garages, and ensuring camera systems and cameras are working.

If you receive information of concern or potential threats to your business or other businesses in the District or observe the stockpiling of stones, bricks, or other improvised weapons, please report them immediately and call 911.

18th Street Closure on the Agenda at Wednesday's ANC Meeting

The monthly meeting of ANC1C will take place on Wednesday, June 3 at 7:00pm. The meeting will be held online via Zoom and live-streamed via YouTube.

June Board Meeting

The next Adams Morgan Partnership BID (AMPBID) Board of Directors' meeting will be Tuesday, June 9 from 5-7:00 PM.

The meeting will take place online via Zoom. If you would like to attend the online meeting, you must register. When you register, you will receive the login information.

Free Supplies are Still Available: Free Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) Care Package Pick-up Instructions

ReOpen DC Phase 1 began on Friday, May 29

To get businesses started, the Government of the District of Columbia will distribute a limited number of personal protective equipment (PPE) care packages for businesses eligible to open during this phase. The plan for Phase 1 and related resources can be found at coronavirus.dc.gov/phaseone .

When will Limited Supplies be Distributed?

Saturday, May 30 – Wednesday, June 3, 2020 from 8:00 am to 6:00 pm. While supplies last -- supplies may not last until Wednesday.

FOLLOW THE THREE STEPS BELOW TO REGISTER FOR YOUR BUSINESS’S PPE CARE PACKAGE

STEP ONE : FIND YOUR ZONE

If you are a Phase 1 business looking to register for a PPE Care Package, you must know what Zone your business falls in. Your business address will determine your distribution Zone.

Phase 1 Adams Morgan BID businesses are Zone 7. You can click here to see all zones, and ensure you’re choosing the correct one.

STEP TWO: REGISTER ASAP – REGISTRATION DOES NOT GUARANTEE YOUR PACKAGE

PPE Care Packages will be distributed on a FIRST COME, FIRST SERVE basis. On the registration form linked below, please fill out the contact information for the representative of your business who will pick-up the PPE Care Package. You’ll need your business's Federal Tax ID to register. Once you have registered, you will receive an email receipt or "ticket" from Eventbrite via email. You will need to show this ticket to receive your PPE Care Package .

STEP THREE: GO TO YOUR PICK-UP LOCATION

Registered businesses in Zone 7 can pick-up a PPE Care Package at 1122 Connecticut Ave, NW on Saturday, May 30 through Wednesday, June 3, 2020 from 8:00 am to 6:00 pm, while supplies last. Please dress accordingly for the weather. You MUST wear closed toed shoes to pick-up your PPE supplies.

You MUST bring the Eventbrite PDF receipt you’ve been emailed with you (on either a mobile device or printed on a sheet of paper). A volunteer will confirm your registration at the pick-up location.
