Adams Morgan Apple Festival and Pie Baking Contest returns Saturday!
|
The
9th Annual Adams Morgan Apple Pie Baking Contest
and the
14th Annual Licking Creek Bend Farm Heirloom Apple Tasting
returns to Adams Morgan on Saturday, October 29! The highly-anticipated community event will take place in front of The Line Hotel and directly across the street from the farmer’s market in Unity Park at Euclid and Champlain Streets NW.
Event highlights include an apple tasting and an apple pie baking contest. Area bakers compete for the title of ‘Best Apple Pie’, and attendees can purchase pie slices for $5 each to support

This year’s series of pedestrian zones is basically a pilot project and we need your input to help determine its future. There are three available surveys -- please fill only those that are appropriate for you, and please encourage your friends and contacts to do the same.

The DC Office of Planning is hosting a survey on their website to get the public's feedback on Streets for the People events including the Adams Morgan Pedestrian Zone. This feedback is very important to help inform future programs.

The
Fair Meals Delivery Act
received strong support at a hearing yesterday. The bill would require delivery service companies to enter in written agreements with restaurants before delivering their meals and prohibit advertising a restaurant without their permission. Making permanent the temporary 15% delivery cap was discussed, but it is not currently part of the bill.

FY23 Food Waste Innovation Grants Open for Applications
|
DLSBD is thrilled to announce that the FY23 Request for Applications (RFA) is now live on their
website
. We’re welcoming food businesses that produce, process, or serve food and/or beverages to apply for up to $10,000 to tackle food waste. Nonprofits working with 2+ businesses or groups of 2+ businesses are eligible to apply for more than $10,000 for collaborative projects. The RFA contains everything you need to know about the program, eligibility, and the application.
There is a Paperwork Bootcamp on Friday, October 28 at 10 am. Please register

A Zero Waste DC Starts with Your Input
|
The Department of Public Works (DPW) Office of Waste Diversion is developing the Zero Waste DC Plan in pursuit of Mayor Muriel Bowser’s Zero Waste goal of diverting 80% of the District of Columbia’s waste away from landfills and incineration.
In August, DPW hosted ten (10) virtual community engagement events to hear residents’ and businesses’ concerns, ideas, and visions for the Zero Waste future. Throughout September, DPW heard from community members during a 45-day public comment period on the Zero Waste DC Plan’s first draft framework. This October, they're still listening! DPW invites you to join us virtually on Friday, October 28 to help us dive deeper into the business priorities around Zero Waste.

Small Business Credit Survey
|
Local small businesses are critical to the District and US economy. But data on local small businesses is limited, especially on how and why small businesses seek financing.
By taking the
Small Business Credit Survey
, small business owners contribute to data that directly informs the Federal Reserve, federal government agencies, service providers, policymakers, and others—ultimately benefitting their business and other businesses like theirs.
The survey takes 10 minutes to complete and is open to for-profit businesses with fewer than 500 employees. Responses are confidential, and small business owners do not need to provide any personal information. Take the survey today—it is open through Friday, November 18.

Extended Hours for 2022 FIFA World Cup
|
Eligible licensees may operate 24-hours and sell and serve alcohol between 6:00 a.m. and 4:00 a.m. during the 2022 FIFA World Cup taking place November 20 - December 18, 2022.
To participate, licensees must register and pay a non-refundable $100 fee by
4:00 p.m. on Thursday, November 17
. If approved, licensees will be issued a permit that must be posted next to their alcohol license inside the premises.
Note the following:
-
Eligible licensees include On-Premises Retailers, Manufacturers with an On-Site Sales and Consumption Permit, and Temporary License holders.
-
Extended hours start the evening of the first day of the series—Sunday, November 20—and end at 4:00 a.m. on the last day—Sunday, December 18.
-
Alcohol sales, service, and consumption are NOT permitted between 4:00 a.m. and 6:00 a.m.
-
Settlement Agreements
and
Board Orders
apply and may affect eligibility.
-
Registration in ABRA’s
Extended Holiday Hours Program
and previous World Cup application approvals do not extend to the 2022 World Cup.
-
Approval of extended alcohol service hours does not extend ABC Board approved entertainment hours. To modify
entertainment hours
, licensees must submit a
Substantial Change Application
.
