DCRA National Preparedness Month Workshops
September marks the annual observance of National Preparedness Month. During this time and throughout the year, government agencies, nonprofits, and all of community support services come together to remind us that we all must prepare now and throughout the year for any and every emergency that could and will affect our lives.

DCNHA Affiliate Member Nightclub Security Consultants (NSC) is conducting a two-day National HOST Security Training and Hospitality Security Certification Program in D.C. on Monday, October 10, and Tuesday, October 11. This nationally-recognized, well-regarded, and highly-recommended staff training program is appropriate for all license classes, venue types, and venue sizes – including bars, restaurants, and nightclubs – and for both security personnel and management team leadership, as well as operators and managers.
The sessions run from 5:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m. each day and will be held at DCNHA Member establishment and training session host Shadow Room, at 2131 K Street NW. Participants must attend both training days for certification.
This bar, restaurant, and nightclub security training program has been reviewed by the Metropolitan Police Department (MPD), Alcoholic Beverage Regulation Administration (ABRA), and the District's Office of the Attorney General (OAG). NSC has trained over 800 local bar, restaurant, and nightclub security staff and managers over the past 5 years using the HOST Security training program and helping operators lower their overall liquor liability. Staff certification can also result in lower insurance rates.
Hospitality Operations Security Techniques (HOST) training is a comprehensive program designed specifically for all hospitality establishments – including all bars, restaurants, and nightclubs – and is designed for all operational and security staff, managers, and operators.
The program covers a wide array of Security Plan Topics essential for your establishment's operations and staff communications. The training will also teach venue employees the laws, rules, and best practices in security.
Great Streets application deadline announced, AMPBID to host bilingual information session
The Deputy Mayor for Planning and Economic Development (DMPED) is soliciting applications for the
Great Streets Retail Small Business Grant
. DMPED will award individual grants of up to a maximum of $50,000.00 each. The application deadline is
Friday, October 21, 2016 at 2:00 p.m.
The purpose of Great Streets Retail Small Business Grants is to support existing small businesses, attract new businesses, increase the District’s tax base, create new job opportunities for District residents and transform emerging commercial corridors into thriving neighborhood centers.
AMPBID will be conducting a bilingual (English & Spanish) session in Adams Morgan to assist neighborhood businesses who want to apply for this grant. The session will take place on
September 21st from 3 to 4:30 pm at the Festival Center at 1640 Columbia Rd., NW.
