The Greater Washington Hispanic Chamber of Commerce's (GWHCC) 4th Annual Business Expo is on Tuesday April 2

. The AMPBID has purchased two booths that are to be shared by Adams Morgan businesses. There are 3 businesses so far sharing the two booths. The event is SOLD OUT so no additional booths are available.
This is a terrific opportunity to showcase your business and build connections with participating government agencies, corporations, embassies, non-profits, small businesses, and individuals in the local Hispanic business community. This year GWHCC is anticipating more 1,300 attendees (it is free to attend) and 110 exhibitors.

New businesses opening in Adams Morgan
There are a number of new businesses that have announced they are opening soon in Adams Morgan. Here is a quick list:
Forever Yogurt

a Chicago-based chain, is opening it's first Washington, DC location at 1728 Columbia Road, NW. Unlike other yogurt stores, Forever Yogurt has a self-serve model which allows customers to combine 90 flavors of yogurt with about 40 different toppings. According to the website it looks like they are planning on expanding to Georgetown, Dupont Circle, the Verizon Center and the U Street area.
The former Shawarma Spot at 2418 18th Street, NW will soon be
Kabob Doner
. Stay tuned for more information about their opening date.
The former Uptowner Cafe space at 2421 18th Street, NW (prior to that was Caribou Coffee) will soon be the second location for
Mediterranean
Spot
. Their other location is at 15th and U Street, NW. We'll post more information when they get closer to opening.

Mellow Mushroom launches Tyke Time on April 5th
Mellow Mushroom Pizza Bakers is joining the movement that The Reef at 2446 18th Street, NW

successfully began many years ago with their Family Friendly Happy Hour by launching Tyke Time on April 5th with a party from 4pm-630pm. There will be Face Painting, Corn Hole, and Drink Specials for the adults.
Tyke Time will then be every Monday-Friday from 4pm-630pm, where Kids Eat Free with the purchase of an adult entrée. Mellow also has Happy Hour Sunday-Friday from 3pm-7pm.
Mellow Mushroom is located at 2436 18th Street, NW. Homegrown since 1974, Mellow Mushroom Pizza Bakers provides guests with a dining experience filled with colorful art, eclectic music and quality food that comforts the soul. Good news about Adams Morgan business' participation in clean energy purchasing
We now have a confirmed 36 businesses in Adams Morgan that have made the switch to renewable energy and eco-friendly restaurant suppliers.
As people prepare for Earth Day celebrations next month we thought this was good news to celebrate!
Through the businesses' switch, they facilitated 6 area nonprofits in doing so as well, for a total of 42 green businesses and nonprofits connected to the Adams Morgan community.
Since the Community Purchasing movement began in 2011, we have converted a total of 14,932,507 kWhs while generating over $1,600,400 in local savings and business revenue! We have a lot to be proud of!

Manchester City Soccer Club and the UAE Embassy will build an new soccer field at Marie Reed School
The Embassy of the United Arab Emirates, and Ambassador Yousef Al Otaiba along with the Manchester City Football Club, will build a entirely new all-season sports field at the Marie Reed Elementary School and Recreation Center. The work will be done through Manchester City Football Club’s US-based non-for-profit
City Soccer in the Community
. This is a gift to the school and greater community and will create a field that will last for years to come.
There will be a Groundbreaking Ceremony on Tuesday, April 2 at 3:30pm. Please join Ambassador Al Otaiba, representatives of City Soccer, and other members of the Marie Reed community at the event. The event will feature Marie Reed students in active and prominent roles.
They expect to have students, families and staff well-represented as well.
The City Soccer program has successfully built fields in urban areas across America, transforming underused lots into neighborhood jewels. There’s no doubt that Marie Reed is the right place for this endeavor.

METRO's Smart Benefits Program
If you are not already familiar with Metro’s SmartBenefits Program, this next article will help you understand its many perks.
SmartBenefits is a convenient web-base program that lets employers assign monthly commuting benefits directly to their employees’ rechargeable SmarTrip card.
Why is this important? Because the Washington metropolitan region is one of the most congested areas in the nation and the IRS allows up to $245 per month in tax free or pre-tax transit benefits. You can also provide an additional amount in Metro parking benefits. Employers and employees can take advantage of the tax savings by participating in SmartBenefits while helping the environment and reducing congestion.
There are NO service fees for participating in SmartBenefits. Just assign and pay for the monthly commuting value. For your employees that ride Metrorail and regional bus systems, all they need to do is ‘tap and ride’. In addition, SmartBenefits is flexible for vanpool and commuter rail riders.
All new accounts must be set up by the 15th of each month to provide benefits to employees for the next month.

Taste of Adams Morgan to benefit Mary's Center
Interested in attracting new patrons and raising money for a worthwhile cause? Then we have the event for you!
The Adams Morgan Partnership BID and Mary’s Center have teamed up to invite the businesses in Adams Morgan to participate in
Taste of Adams Morgan
, an exciting new event series for 2013. The first of three events, the launch for
Taste of Adams Morgan
will be either May 7
th
or 21

from 5-9pm, and we need YOU to make it a success. (The date will be determined by which businesses are able to participate on either date).
Taste of Adams Morgan
will provide city-goers with a chance to sample from Adams Morgan’s best restaurants while supporting your neighbor, Mary’s Center, in the process.
Tickets will be available for purchase online as well as at The Little Shop of Flowers prior to the event and at Toro Mata and The Little Shop of Flowers the day of the event with proceeds going to Mary’s Center. Each ticket may be redeemed for one pre-fix “taste” at the participating restaurants. Drinks and other food would be purchased by the patrons individually at the restaurant.
So with tickets in hand, attendees can stroll throughout Adams Morgan at their leisure, ready to whet their whistles and partake in some of the best dishes that DC has to offer.
