DC Water Shut Off at midnight on Monday February 6th

Following previous DC Water work this past December in the intersection of 18th Street NW and Columbia Road NW, DC Water now needs to perform tie-ins to the newly installed water main as part of the 18th Street Streetscape project.

While the work has been scheduled for Monday, February 6th from 11:00 p.m. to Tuesday February 7th at 6:00 a.m., the shutting of water at all impacted addresses will occur at approximately 12:00 a.m.

As during the previous work in December, water services within the 1700 block of Columbia Road NW between 18th and 17th Street (including McDonald's) will be impacted. DC Water will provide notification of this scheduled water outage to all affected addresses. There are about 30 businesses affected.

Once the tie-ins are complete and have been deemed successful, the water main will be recharged immediately.

Fair Streets DC - we need your input!

Food trucks are becoming a vibrant contributor to the food scene in Washington, DC. We love the added vitality that food trucks bring to the DC dining scene.

While food trucks may be a good thing, they need to become a part of the business community in a responsible and fair way.

DCRA's recently released proposed regulations for mobile vending do not address any negative impacts of these new businesses on neighborhoods.

Your voice needs to be heard to ensure fair management of sidewalks and streets - just as you have to get a license and permits for your sidewalk cafes, so should food trucks be assigned specific spaces with a license.

Also the Adams Morgan Partnership BID spends a lot of resources to maintain the public s pace with our Clean Team's efforts emptying trash cans and sweeping up the sidewalks.

Tell DCRA they need to go back to the drawing board on these regulations, go at the task with a bit of common sense and a sense of FAIRNESS and listen to all sides of the issue.

We (and many others) are asking for the proposed guidelines to be revised to reflect these important factors that contribute to the fairness of business operations in Washington DC. We want to preserve the existing businesses while fostering and welcoming the new growth of food-trucks.

Adams Morgan Main Street's Random Acts of Kindness - February 15th

Random Acts of Kindness is a National Campaign hosted every year that invites people to slow down and take time to be kind. This year’s week of kindness is February 13 – 19th.

Adams Morgan Main Street Group is spearheading a Random Acts Day for Adams Morgan on Wednesday, February 15, 2012 at 5 PM in the SunTrust Bank plaza at 18th and Columbia Road . (In previous years the AMPBID sponsored this activity.)

Adams Morgan businesses are encouraged to offer discounts, awesome specials, small gifts, or emotive items to inspire passer bys and customers. To take it a little further, you can be “kind” all week if you like. We also invite you to be part of the celebration of “love” the day after Valentines Day.

Some of the activities planned are:

·         Volunteers will be dressed in shades of red

·         Food Collection (canned and dry items will be donated to Christ House in Adams Morgan)

·         Encouraging people to donate time on that day to our local Adams Morgan non-profits

·         Volunteers on the street helping to cross the street

·         Scheduled outdoor entertainment starting with hula-hooping, dancing, Zumba outdoor dance, A-Capella singing

·         Indoor entertainment includes a free comedy show at Marrakech Lounge & Volunteer Meet up beginning at 8 pm

For businesses that took part in last November’s Small Business Saturday, please remember that we had great media coverage and visibility as well as increased traffic. We are sure this will do the same. During these slower winter months and added streetscape construction, this is another way to encourage foot traffic.  Since Valentine’s Day will be the day before, let’s continue the mood with Random Acts of Kindness.
