Cherry Blossom Season is Here!
|
The Adams Morgan Partnership BID is excited to partner with the
National Cherry Blossom Festival
and host a one-of-a-kind, giant cherry blossom sculpture in Adams Morgan! The five foot tall, 1,200 pound sculpture is called “Community Grid” is now located in BB&T Plaza at 1801 Adams Mill Rd NW. The sculpture was designed by local artists My Ly (
@mylydesign
) and Jaclyn Stallard (
@jstallard
). It's one of 26 sculptures that will be installed throughout DC, Virginia, and Maryland as part of
Art in Bloom
, a public art exhibition in celebration of the National Cherry Blossom Festival.
We encourage you to go on a “Blossom Hunt” - starting in Adams Morgan and making your way around DC to find each sculpture. In addition to the life-size cherry blossom sculpture, our neighborhood is fully decked out with cherry blossom decals to help celebrate the season and the joy that this beloved tradition brings to our city each year.

To assist property owners impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic, the Office of Tax and Revenue (OTR) is extending the deadlines for property owners who wish to appeal their TY 2022 real property tax assessment, file an Exempt Property Annual Use report, as well as file an Income & Expense (I&E) report as follows:

Registration is Open for Bike To Work Day 2021
|
The Washington, DC region’s 20th Anniversary Bike to Work Day is returning this year on
Friday, May 21, 2021
.
Due to COVID, things will be a bit different this year. Registrants will have to register for a specific 30 minute time slot and only 30 riders will be allowed to register for each slot, so total registration will be strictly limited. To help accommodate this, we're extending our pit stop hours -- the Adams Morgan Pit Stop will be open from 7:30am to 11:00am at Unity Park (in front of The LINE Hotel DC, corner of Columbia Rd. and Champlain St., NW).
Due to the COVID restrictions this year we won't be able to host any on-site activities, but we're planning on having some good giveaways, so stay tuned for more details.

Sign the Pledge to Get Back to Work
|
The Federal City Council is urging DC businesses to pledge their return to work so that as the City continues to lift restrictions, employers are welcoming employees back safely. This is so important to help reinvigorate DC in terms of traffic flow, dining, retail spend, transportation, and more.

. Though the pledge notes the deadline is 3/22, the Federal City Council is extending that deadline and broadening their reach to include more industries.

The Dream Big Awards celebrate small businesses who are achieving success, creating opportunity and inspiring others. Winners exemplify leadership across business growth, performance, innovative business strategies, community engagement and customer relations.
Individual awards are presented in
eight distinct categories
and the overall winner of the Dream Big Small Business of the Year Award receives a $25,000 cash prize. There is no fee to apply, and winners will be announced in the fall at our annual awards ceremony.

Monday's highly anticipated lifted restriction allowing DC operators to stay open until midnight brought on a very welcomed change. While we were disappointed in what the Mayor did not announce last week in terms of capacity limit in DC, we missed noting that the Mayor’s recent order did remove the provision which strongly encouraged telework at non-essential, non-retail businesses. The city is doing a big push to encourage that businesses consider their own reopening plans to safely welcome on-site employees and contractors back, in compliance with public health guidance, and with the expectation that metrics continue to improve and allow for further phases of reopening.
In DC, you may also be hearing a lot about the $2.2 billion that the District will receive as a result of the American Rescue Plan. For some further background on that process, the funds that the city will receive will arrive gradually and do have to be used in certain ways. We know that the city is keen on offering support for the business community as we best prepare to reopen and staff up, but we do not yet have clarity on what the funds will be earmarked to support. First, the District will receive the $750 million that city leaders fought for from the CARES Act, and which DC did not receive because it is not a state. From there, further funding will follow from the $2.2 billion.
On the National scope, we continue to await the SBA guidance on the Restaurant Revitalization Fund (RRF) and understand that could come as early as April, with businesses applying in May. Our partners at the National Restaurant Association shared a quick

: The Burn Center at MedStar Washington Hospital Center is partnering with RAMW hosting a webinar on Burn Safety Education in Restaurants and Cafés that will provide information on burn safety and ways to prevent and treat first aid burns including Scald Burns, Open Flame Burns and Chemical Burns.

Health Insurance Options for Small Businesses and Individuals During the Pandemic, Tuesday, March 30 at 2:00 pm
: Join RAMW & DC Health Link for an informational webinar on the current options available to small businesses that have undergone operational changes and challenges impacting the ability to offer or maintain employer-sponsored health coverage due to the COVID-19 pandemic including information about incentives such as zero percent down, no policy termination and automatic 12-month repay period. Information will also be shared for individuals who may be losing or have lost health insurance coverage during the pandemic.

Finally, on Tuesday RAMW hosted its Annual Membership Meeting where we gave an update on the state of the industry and what’s to come. We were joined by Gerry A. Fernandez, President and Founder of the Multicultural Foodservice and Hospitality Alliance (MFHA) who spoke about racism and inequity in our society and industry, and offered some insight on how to support employees and mitigate racially-charged conflict in various scenarios. We got many productive questions from operators following Gerry’s presentation, and we will be planning further educational programming with the MFHA in the coming weeks. This effort is tied to our Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion working group of operators who have been meeting on these topics to further RAMW’s resources for you as operators. We look forward to sharing more on this front very soon.

(SVOG) program in the form of an update to its list of
frequently asked questions
(FAQs). The guidance includes requirements for eligibility for the grant and a checklist of documents for potential applicants – at this time, the application itself is not yet available.

The Department of Energy and Environment (DOEE) is trying to get a better understanding of how commercial buildings manage icy sidewalks, driveways, and parking lots and what types of incentives would be the most effective at encouraging them to switch away from salt and salt-based products.
They have a

Murals DC: Request for Qualifications
|
The DC Commission on the Arts and Humanities (CAH), in partnership with the DC Department of Public Works (DPW), seeks graffiti and aerosol mural artists and artist teams to design, create and install aerosol murals as part of the MuralsDC program. Selected artists will be expected to engage in a guided component of the program with designated youth (ages 14-18) to help them understand the art of aerosol graffiti mural painting and provide youth with opportunities to assist in activities such as site preparation and mural outlining.
Applicants may submit one (1) MuralsDC qualification application per fiscal year. Multiple awards may be made under this RFQ. Award amounts vary from $2,500 - $20,000.
