18th Street Pedestrian Zone Dates Set!
|
The Adams Morgan Partnership Business Improvement District (AMPBID) is excited to announce that the long-awaited return of the
18th Street Pedestrian Zone
will occur on multiple Sundays throughout the remainder of the year. The pedestrian zone will be located along 18th Street NW between Kalorama and Columbia Roads NW on the following dates:

Sunday, August 21 from 12pm-10pm
-
Sunday, September 4 from 12pm-10pm
-
Sunday, October 23 from 12pm-10pm
-
We may add an early November date and we anticipate the street closures would resume in the Spring of next year.
The objective of the pedestrian zone is to be a tool for the economic recovery of all the businesses in Adams Morgan. Closing the street to vehicular traffic allows for more pedestrians, bicyclists and people on scooters to have additional safe space to walk to their favorite cafe, shop for a unique gift, bike to dinner with friends, scooter to a hair or nail appointment, or wander the tree-lined streets of Adams Morgan and enjoy the architecture.
Pedestrian zone visitors can expect to see pop-up entertainment and fun programming throughout the day for people of all ages. All are welcome to attend this safe, family-friendly community initiative. Follow the Adams Morgan Partnership BID on

Tonight's AdMo Vibe concert cancelled
|
Due to the dangerous storms predicted this evening we've had to cancel today's AdMo Vibe performance. We're hoping to reschedule for next week, so please stay tuned to our social media channels for updates.
We are tentatively rescheduling for Tuesday August 16 -- watch our social media channels for more information.
AdMo Vibe is the ultimate setting for a family night out, date night, relaxing evening in the park, or solo adventure. The bands will be playing various genres of music including folk, pop, classical, rock, jazz, and more. Concert goers can picnic with takeout from a local restaurant, enjoy good vibes with neighbors and friends, and visit an array of shops and boutiques just steps away before or after the performances.

We will be encouraging attendees to order takeout food and bring it to the performance much like we do with Adams Morgan Movie Nights. If you are interested in offering a "Picnic in the Park" special and/or would like more information, please contact Brian Barrie via

Information available from Tuesday's special AMPBID meeting
|
On
Tuesday, August 9
we were joined by representatives from the DC Dept. of Transportation (DDOT) and the DC Dept. of Energy and Environment (DOEE) for a special informational board meeting.
DDOT discussed
proposed changes
to Columbia Road between 16th Street and Connecticut Avenue.
The proposed changes will significantly affect parking and loading zones on Columbia Road.
DOEE gave a presentation on the
Building Energy Performance Standards (BEPS) program
. BEPS was created to help meet the energy and climate goals of the Sustainable DC plan — to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and energy consumption by 50% by 2032.
This program could have financial impacts on businesses and property owners.

The Adams Morgan Farmers Market is open for the season on
Saturdays from 8:30am – 1:00pm
, rain or shine, at UNITY PARK, Columbia Rd and Euclid St. NW. The market will be open every Saturday through December.
Music at the Farmers Market
With help from a grant from the Department of Parks and Recreation (DPR), we have hired a musician, Heidi Martin, to perform at the farmers market on Saturdays. In addition to playing folk music and jazz, she will also set aside a couple sets for children's music and will have instruments with her so they can participate. Heidi began as lead 3’s teacher with a joyous circle time. “Music 2Little Ears” grew into a creative set of children’s music performances, classes and private lessons. She is also a DC Jazz Festival Education Coordinator and a professional vocalist and composer.

has been providing cultural excellence in DC for 13 years. They will be opening their latest artisan market soon on Saturdays from 10am to 5pm in the plaza at the corner of Adams Mill Rd. and Columbia Rd., NW, with an impressive ensemble of some 20 artisans in all areas of artistry, plus art activities for the whole family. C-PACE is special financing for multifamily and commercial property owners and for developers to use for energy efficiency, renewable energy, or other green projects. This innovative funding structure allows builders to access the capital they need to develop clean and efficient properties and is usually provided mostly by private investors or through some government programs. Put into the into the capital stack of the Audi field project, and recently used at the 950 3rd Street NW property, this financing option is garnering a lot of interest for projects in every quadrant. Co-hosted by ABRA and the District's Office of Tax and Revenue (OTR), this session will detail the process and requirements for obtaining a Certificate of Clean Hands for B&B, nightclub, and tavern license holders that must renew their ABRA licenses by September 30.

Nominations being accepted for the Bob Pohlman Lifetime Achievement in Community Development Award
|
Robert “Bob” Pohlman served as CNHED’s Executive Director from 2000–2014, and was a beloved figure in the community development field, as well as a great friend, mentor, and colleague to so many of us. Bob’s work at CNHED followed a 23-year career in the District of Columbia government, where he served as Director of the Department of Housing and Community Development, Deputy Mayor for Finance, and Chief Financial Officer. His first post with the DC government was with the Model Cities Program, first as Fiscal Monitor, then as Budget and Accounting Officer. Bob began his career as an auditor in Chicago, but found his calling in public service while serving in Jacksonville, Texas, as a VISTA Volunteer. His career embodied a true commitment to public service.
Bob passed away in Spring of 2018. In light of his legacy, CNHED created the “Bob Pohlman Lifetime Achievement in Community Development Award.” This award is awarded annually to an outstanding local leader with at least 20 years of consistent service and leadership in the District of Columbia’s community development field.
The winner receives $5,000 and a ceremonial plaque.
