18th Street Streetscape Construction related news: Water Shut Off and Kalorama Road temporary close

DCWater Work:

Another water shut off is planned for Monday February 13th at 12 midnight into Tuesday February 14th at 7 am for the businesses in the 1700 block of Columbia Road, NW.

DC Water will be performing another water shut off on Monday night February 13th at midnight into Tuesday morning February 14th at 7 AM in support of the 18th Street Streetscape Construction.

The work on February 13th will perform needed tie-ins to each property of the newly installed water main at 18th and Columbia Road, NW. Crews will assemble on site to perform preparatory activities beginning at 10:00 pm.

This work will impact businesses ONLY in the 1700 block of Columbia Road between 18th and 17th Street - including McDonald's.

There are about 30 businesses affected. They anticipate the shut down to last for approximately 7 hours.

All affected will receive notification from DC Water also. Once the tie-ins are complete and has been deemed successful the water main will be recharged immediately.

Kalorama Road closure:

Due to the deep excavation that needs to happen at Kalorama and 18th on the east side, Civil Construction will need to close the entrance to Kalorama Road at 18th Street from Monday February 13th through Wednesday February 15th.
This will be similar to what happened during the sink hole repair at Kalorama and Champlain, but they will maintain access to the alley from Champlain Street throughout. The closure will be from 18th Street to just west of the alley that runs parallel with 18th Street off of Kalorama Rd.
There will be a flag person in the alley to control traffic and truck deliveries. DDOT will monitor the traffic closely but do not anticipate any problems.

Ask Me About DC - February 23

The AMPBID will be participating for the second year in a row in the February 23rd event called "Ask Me About DC" sponsored by the DC Chamber of Commerce and Destination DC in partnership with Congresswoman Eleanor Holmes Norton. This day provides the Congressional Members and their staff an opportunity to learn about attractions, entertainment and dining options in Washington, DC to support the needs of their constituents. This year's theme highlights DC's hottest neighborhoods and newest attractions.
We will have a 1/2 table top on the trade show floor and they anticipate more than 600 people will walk through because there is a free lunch. Last year's attendance was closer to 800 people.
Soooo...please give Kristen things from your businesses to distribute to the members of Congress and their staff. Just as we did with the welcome bags, we need menus, brochures, business cards, gift certificates, coupons for 10% off, tshirts, hats, pens, pins, bags...basically whatever you would like us to pass out to them. The most popular items are the FREE food coupons.

We frequently get asked by businesses for recommendations for neighborhood handymen or electricians or reliable people in the neighborhood they can hire for odd jobs around their building. We hear nightmare stories about people walking away with deposits and not doing any work and we want to help all businesses avoid those scenarios....SOOOO if you have a trustworthy, reliable handyperson, carpenter, electrician, perferably that lives in Adams Morgan that you would recommend to your neighbor, please send them to Kristen at kbarden@adamsmorganonline.org. Save the Date - March 17th - SunTrust/Rock N Roll Marathon street closures

Please save the date for the SunTrust Rock ‘n’ Roll USA

Marathon & CareFirst Rock ‘n’ Roll USA Half Marathon on

Saturday, March 17 . As in previous years, the race will

come through Adams Morgan along Columbia Road between

about 8:30 am and 9:45 am. Columbia Road between Connecticut

Avenue and 16th Street will be closed during that time.

The race will start near RFK Stadium at C and 19 th Streets

NE and complete a tour of many of our Capital’s most

majestic sights before returning to finish on East Capitol

Street at Armory Mall.

closure times, and explore the course with their interactive

road closure map. More information on access lanes,

alternate routes and no parking zones will be available in the

coming weeks.

Please share this information with your neighbors and/or

employees.

You are invited to get involved with this exciting event!

Spectators are encouraged to line the route to cheer

thousands of runners and walkers towards the finish line.

Volunteer opportunities are available at the pre-race Expo,

Thursday-Friday, March 15-16 at the DC Armory, and on

race day, Saturday, March 17, along the course and in the
