1) AMPBID reauthorization schedule this Spring/Summer

At the March 8th, 2016 AMPBID Board meeting at 5 pm at the Festival Center

at 1640 Columbia Road, NW, the board will be voting on the proposed 5 Year

Business Plan that if approved by the board will be sent to the Mayor and

request that the Adams Morgan Partnership BID be reauthorized for another

5 year term. Our current term is set to expire on September 30, 2016.

The Mayor, upon receiving our plan and request, will then issue

a notice of preliminary finding and then will schedule a public hearing. The

date of the hearing will be advertised with at least 21 days notice in multiple

sources. We anticipate the hearing will be in June, July or August.

Copies of the proposed 5 Year Business Plan will be mailed to all BID members

(commercial property owners and business owners) by February 26th. If BID

members have comments on the plan, those should be given to a voting

board member before the March 8th meeting. BID members and the public

are welcome to attend the board meeting.

Thanks very much.

3) Reminder about Washington City Paper Best of campaign

It's time, once again, to encourage your patrons, friends, relatives -- and everyone else you can convince  -- to support your business by voting for it in the 2016 City Paper Reader's Poll. This can be done through social media, point of sale and through reminders in your shop windows, near counters, etc.

Most of you are aware that winning the City Paper Reader's Poll can be an important way to distinguish your business from others. It can increase business and can be helpful in your own promotional and marketing efforts. For visitors and new residents, it can mean the difference between trying your business or walking by. For those searching online for where to go, it can mean your business shows up in a favorable way.

Adams Morgan has been proud to have several of our businesses on the winners list each year.  Let's maintain our great track record.

Voting ends on March 1. Good luck!

4) DC Arts Center Reception TONIGHT!

Please join us TONIGHT Friday, February 19th from 7-9 PM for the Memory-scapes Opening Reception! The event is free, with refreshments available for purchase (cash only).

About the exhibition:

Mixed media fiber artist Jung Min Park successfully translates her life and travels as a self described “city girl” into her work. Park makes it a point to be in the present as she maneuvers her way through each new city that surrounds her. The exhibition is a stroll through the culmination of experiences imprinted in her memories. Park does not try and deliberately recreate the environment of any particular city but her abstractions offer clues to the locations she internalizes. Focal points draw the eye to a realistic image that pulls the observer from the chaos of the urban abstractions to find order.

The exhibition encompasses large scale fiber canvases the artist manipulates with paint and collage entwined with ephemera. Carefully planned manipulation of the fiber and threads emphasizes the importance of negative space to the artist. The exhibition also includes a strong selection of small framed collages floating on white backgrounds which capture a moment in time and place. Park affords viewers a sense of immersion via her memory-scapes and provides a platform to juxtapose their own city reflections.

Curated by Trudi C. Van Dyke; on view February 19th - March 20th.

DC Arts Center is located at 2438 18th Street NW, in the heart of Adams Morgan.

5) Cherry Blossom Festival advertising possibilities

Click here to access City in Bloom electronic banners for your use

The 2016 National Cherry Blossom Festival, held March 20 – April 17, will illuminate the region in pink this spring through the City in Bloom campaign.

City in Bloom, now in its fifth year, allows businesses, organizations, and individuals to showcase spring and visually unite and energize the DC metro area for over 1.5 million people throughout the National Cherry Blossom Festival.  Iconic buildings, retailers, public transportation entities, and more showcase the start of spring with pink lighting and blossom decals, welcoming attendees with the energy and vibrancy of the nation’s greatest springtime celebration.

We hope that you will participate in City in Bloom this year. WE (THE ADAMS MORGAN PARTNERSHIP) are purchasing small and large blossom decals and will pass those out to all our businesses. Also available for purchase are pink LED outdoor string lights, a great way to brighten your patio and outdoor spaces with a splash of cherry blossom this spring!

WE (AMPBID) are also collecting a list of businesses that are doing something special during the Cherry Blossom Festival. It could be a cherry cocktail, a cherry dessert, everything pink in the store is 20% off, or anything else you think would be fun with the cherry blossom theme. Please send Nathan Ackerman your cherry theme item by MARCH 9TH and we will combine all of those into a press release -send to nathan@18thstreetmedia.com

The Festival is pleased to list retail package supporters as participants in City in Bloom on their website (1.9 million visits from 1.3 million unique visitors).  After we distibute the decals - PLEASE SEND THE FESTIVAL a picture of your decal decorations and they might even feature your business as part of their social media outreach!

For more information about how to get involved, please visit the website National Cherry Blossom Festival .  With your support, together we will make the 2016 National Cherry Blossom Festival the nation’s greatest springtime celebration .
