Adams Morgan Day is just over one week away!
This year restaurants and bars will be serving the first ever Adams Morgan Festival IPA. Thanks to Roofers Union for their work with Atlas in creating the beer. Read more about the beer in the story below.

MINT Health Club and Studio
. Hola Cultura welcomes visitors at a free reception and oral history plus a photo exhibit at the

Adams Morgan Partnership Quarterly Board Meeting
|
The next Adams Morgan Partnership BID (AMPBID) Board of Directors' meeting will be
Tuesday, September 10
from 5-7:00 PM at the Festival Center at 1640 Columbia Rd NW. Hope you can join us! Prayas Neupane from WDCEP and Phillip Mcauley from DMPED will be in attendance to talk about Employer Engagement 100 which is the Bowser Administration's year-long dialog with an initial collection of the city's largest, fastest growing, and most innovative employers.

Adams Morgan PorchFest returns on October 5 bringing
thousands of visitors who could be your customers!
|
DC's most creative music festival returns this fall with dozens of local bands. On
Saturday, October 5
, we'll turn over 16 porches and stoops into stages for the day for
Adams Morgan PorchFest
. In 2018, we hosted 57 performances on 16 stages, and we're already working on bringing back your favorite bands. Just to get you in the spirit we've put together a

This year we will be introducing a
wristband discount program
to encourage visitors to patronize Adams Morgan businesses. Wristbands will be distributed for free at the PorchFest HQ in SunTrust Plaza and there will be a digital map listing your discounts and leading customers to your door. Contact

Adams Morgan Apple Festival and Pie Contest date set
|
The
Adams Morgan Apple Festival
will be held on
Saturday October 26, 2019
at SunTrust Plaza. The festival is a collaborative effort between the Adams Morgan Partnership and the Adams Morgan Farmers Market.
This year will also mark the 6th annual Apple Pie Contest with proceeds from slice sales benefiting
Platform of Hope
. Each contestant will bake three identical pies -- one is for judging and the remaining pies are cut with slices being sold for $5 each.

Roofers Union & Atlas Brew Works Bring Adams Morgan Its Own Beer
|
Washington, D.C. (August 27, 2019) –
Roofers Union
and
Atlas Brew Works
are thrilled to announce a collaboration honoring the Adams Morgan neighborhood. The joint project, The Adams Morgan Festival IPA, can be found at bars and restaurants throughout the Northwest neighborhood beginning on Sunday, September 8. In addition to the festival, this day also marks the the first day of DC Beer Week 2019.
The inaugural brew is a passion project of Roofers Union’s General Manager and Beer Director Dave Delaplaine. As an advocate and champion of the local craft beer community as well as a longtime contributor and planner for Adams Morgan Day, Delaplaine sought the partnership with Atlas Brew Works CEO Justin Cox, wanting to create something that not only highlighted the work of both brands, but that captured the vibrant community that makes up Adams Morgan.

DC tax changes take effect October 1
|
SALES AND USE TAXES
Soft Drinks
: The sale of or charge for soft drinks are subject to 8 percent sales and use tax. Sales or charges for soft drinks sold for immediate consumption will remain subject to a 10 percent sales tax. Further, the definition of “soft drink” is expanded to include beverages with natural or artificial sweeteners that contains less than 100 percent juice or coffee, coffee substitutes, cocoa, or tea. (See D.C. Official Code § 47-1803.02.)
Note: beverages with less than 50% milk, soy, rice or other milk substitute will be subject to the 8% sales tax unless for immediate consumption then the 10% sales tax applies
REAL PROPERTY TAXES
Commercial Property Rate
: For real property whose assessed value is greater than $10 million, the commercial property (Class 2) tax rate of $1.89 for each $100 of assessed value will no longer be subject to reduction for sales tax revenue receipts collected from remote sellers. (See D.C. Official Code § 47-812(b-9)(2).)
Performing Arts Venues Credit
: A rebate of up to $15,000 of real property tax paid as required by a lease is available to a business hosting live entertainment a minimum of 48 hours per month and that has a seating capacity of less than 300 seats. Qualified businesses must apply by September 15 of the tax year. The application must include the following:

Copy of the lease
-
Documentation that the real property tax was paid
-
Documentation that the business hosts live performances for a minimum of 48 hours per month, and
The venue has a capacity under 300 seats.

RECORDATION AND TRANSFER TAXES
Commercial Property Rate Increase
: The combined recordation and transfer tax rate for class 2 property will increase from 2.9 percent to 5 percent if the consideration is $2 million or more. The tax rate for transfers of economic interests in such property will increase to 5 percent. The recordation tax rate on security interest instruments for debt of $2 million or more secured by such Class 2 property will be 2.5 percent Transfers are subject to the increased rate if any portion of the building is Class 2 property and there is majority common ownership between the interest transferred and the commercial portion of the property. This provision sunsets on September 30, 2023. (See D.C. Official Code §§ 42-1103 and 47-903.)
OTHER IMPORTANT NOTES
Reminder about Nationals' ball park fee:
This has been around since tax year 2006 and is due June 15th each year. If you file a D20 or D30 Return and your gross receipts are $5 million or more for the previous tax year you have to pay this on your franchise tax return. There is evidently still some confusion about it so thus the reminder.
Bulk Sales:
If you are buying or selling a business you MUST SEND A LETTER TO OTR to see if any taxes are owed on the business. If there are they will get the seller to pay those prior to the sale. If you don't send this letter and there are taxes owed - BUYER IS LIABLE for the debt and any interest accrued.
Health Insurance:
Reminder if you have 50+ employees in tax year 2019, you have to file a list of employees who have health insurance. This list will be for returns due in April 2020. There is no longer a Federal penalty on the individual if they don't have health insurance but DC gov will still place a penalty on individuals who don't have health insurance.

Inaugural Business Preparedness Day Invitation
