Adams Morgan Movie Nights features Bend it Like Beckham on Tuesday
|
We are thrilled to announce the return of the award-winning, six-week movie series:
Adams Morgan Movie Nights
! Enjoy free movies every Tuesday evening through June 25 at the Marie Reed Elementary School Soccer Field at 18th Street NW and California Street NW. Movies will kick-off just after sunset at approximately 8:45pm. Attendees are encouraged to arrive early to get a prime spot on the field which boasts tiered, amphitheater-style seating.

Drag Storytime returns Sunday
|

for Drag Storytime! The event will take place in Unity Park directly across from
The LINE DC
(the triangle park at Columbia, Euclid, and Champlain Streets). Venus will be reading stories about love, inclusion, and friendship… books that the entire family will enjoy!
DC Public Library
will be onsite with their library on wheels, the "Book Bike". Don't forget to make a brunch or lunch reservation at one of the many nearby restaurants, go shopping, visit a salon, and continue supporting our local businesses.

Adams Morgan PRIDE Storefront Contest
Entry Deadline extended to Monday, June 3
|
All businesses with storefronts within the
Adams Morgan BID boundaries
are invited to participate/enter the contest for a cash prize. The first place winner will receive a $1,000 cash prize, the second place winner will receive a $500 cash prize, and the third place winner will receive a $250 cash prize. Decorations must be Pride-themed and viewable from the sidewalk (exterior decorations). You are welcome to add decorations to the inside of your business as well (bonus points!). Our hope is to come together as a community to make Adams Morgan as festive as possible, increase neighborhood foot traffic during Pride celebrations, and receive increased media attention. SWIMMING Public Art Project Opens June 6 At Marie Reed Plaza
|
Bangladesh-American artist and climate activist Monica Jahan Bose will bring a massive art installation to Adams Morgan from June 6-20th. Featuring 22 blue Bangladeshi saris arranged to evoke a swimming pool and a huge wave, the SWIMMING public art project brings together communities in Washington DC and Bangladesh, speaking to the healing properties of water and swimming and inequities in access. Located at Marie Reed Plaza, the exhibition will be open 24/7 and visitors will use their phones to access a "VideoSoundwalk" with poetry and songs by the participants. The project explores the deep and essential connections we have to water as our world faces increased flooding, drought, and rising sea levels due to climate change. There will be multiple exciting events, including poetry slams and performances, film screenings, and site visits/artist talks. A short film about the project will be previewed as part of the Adams Morgan Movie Nights on June 11 and 18.

Cannabis Retailer, Internet Retailer Open Application Period
|
The
open application period
for standard applicants seeking a
Retailer
or
Internet Retailer
license will start at 9:00 a.m. on Monday, July 1, 2024, and end at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday, August 29, 2024.
The Medical Cannabis Amendment Act of 2022 requires that at least 50 percent of new medical cannabis business licenses be set aside for social equity applicants.
As of May 22, the Board has accepted and reviewed thirty-three (33) Retailer and two (2) Internet Retailer applications from social equity applicants filed during the previous open application periods above the statutory 50 percent threshold. Accordingly, the same number of each license type will be made available to standard applicants during this open application period on a first-come basis. The related public notice is available on
ABCA’s website
and will be published in the
DC Register
on May 31.
To help prospective applicants understand the application process, ABCA will host a
virtual information session
at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, June 4.
