1) Papal Visit to DC - September 22-24
During Pope Francis' visit to DC there will be a lot of road closures, parking restrictions and changes to public transportation routes and public works services. The areas of the city most affected by this are:
1) the Apostolic Nunciature of the Holy See (Vatican Embassy)
2) the area around the White House
3) Cathedral of St. Matthew (on Rhode Island Avenue between Connecticut and 17th Street)
4) Conference of Catholic Bishops
5) St Patrick's Catholic Church and
6) the US Capitol
The public's cooperation and patience in abiding by these restrictions is appreciated.

2) SAVE THE DATE: October 13th Annual Meeting and board elections
Annual Meeting - October 13
The Annual Meeting of the AMPBID will be Tuesday, October 13, 2015 at 5pm, at the Festival Center at 1640 Columbia Road, NW. Postcards were mailed to all property owners and business owners in August.
AMPBID Annual Meeting Election Process
At the October 13th Annual Meeting, BID members will have the opportunity to vote for candidates for 5 board slots: three property owners and two business owners. Four board members currently holding those positions have been renominated for another term and have agreed to serve if elected.
Those are:
* Jessica White, property owner
* Matt Wexler, property owner
* Louis Courembis, property owner
* Constantine Stavropoulos, business owner
One business owner, Joanna Robinson, is leaving the board at the end of the term and Justin Abad, from Cashion's and Pop's Sea Bar, has expressed interest in running for her seat.
AMPBID Annual Meeting Election Process
Each person eligible for election as a member of the Board may be nominated by: 1) the nominating committee, or 2) by a member petition submitted to the Chair of the Nominating Committee (Steve Greenleigh) at least 30 days prior to the date of the meeting (so additional nominations must be received by September 13th); provided that only business owners can nominate business owners and property owners can only nominate property owners and a petition shall require the signature of no less than ten (10) members to nominate a member of the Board. Each nominee either shall be present at the annual meeting or shall consent to such nomination by a written document.
Voting
Per the by-laws, any properties for which BID taxes are over 60 days delinquent, may not vote nor may they nominate members to the board.
For each class of member, the ballot will list all the candidate names, and members will vote for the number of open slots in that category. For example, there are two business owner slots. All members will have the opportunity to vote for two candidates from the list of all business owner candidates.
Proxies
Proxy votes are allowed.
Pursuant to the BID bylaws, those interested in voting in the board elections by proxy can either contact the BID to request a proxy form, or can develop their own form, as long as it includes: the date of the meeting at which it is applicable (October 13) full names, addresses and the dated signatures of both the individual issuing the proxy and the witness(es) to the signature. The proxy voter can be anyone to whom the property or business owner designates to vote for them and DOES NOT have to be a member of the Adams Morgan Partnership BID. All proxy forms must meet all these criteria to be accepted.
The BID will have a proxy form available by fax, mail and by email.

As you know we launched a new website a few months ago. It is really important that all Adams Morgan businesses post their events and special sales or other things happening on the website. 6) Great Streets Grants - DEADLINE EXTENDED!
DMPED announced its 2016 Great Streets Retail Small Business Reimbursement Grant Notice in the July 24th DC Register.
This year eligible businesses may apply for up to $50,000. Adams Morgan is included in this year's eligible corridors thanks to legislation that we asked CM Graham to introduce in March 2014 and which CM Nadeau helped complete earlier this year.

7) Adams Morgan Porch Fest is October 3, 2015
Calling All Musicians!
We’re on our third year of Adams Morgan PorchFest — a celebration of the deep musical talent that exists in the DC metro area. Last year 40+ musicians/bands participated including members of the National Symphony Orchestra. We transformed the front porches, patios and stoops of our homes and businesses into “stages for a day” where local talent could be heard by all for free. It was a ton of fun, thanks to many of you, with dozens of local music acts playing about at a dozen locations in Adams Morgan. Neighbors gathered, kids danced, and the streets came alive thanks to the generosity of musicians sharing their art.
We’re doing it again Saturday October 3rd from 3pm-7pm. But we can’t do it without the singers, stand up bass players, horn blowers, guitar heroes, indie rockers, violin virtuosos, and all the other talented folks who believe in bringing music out of clubs and into the light of day. From famous jazz legends like Charlie Byrd and Keter Betts to homegrown soul acts like Father’s Children, Adams Morgan has a rich music tradition that PorchFest hopes to continue with your help.
Here’s how it works:
We ask each participating group or individual to play a set or two on Saturday, October 3rd between 3-7 pm. We’ll match you with a host and a time slot, put your name and a brief description of your music (that you provide) on maps we’ll hand out that day and feed you pizza at the after party that night. We’ll work with local media to get coverage — in the past one of the local television affiliates broadcast one of our bands live — so while it’s not a paid gig at this point, it can be great exposure. Acts are encouraged to sell their music, t-shirts etc. if they’d like, but the best way to think of this is as a community service/volunteer type of activity aimed at music appreciation.

Adams Morgan Farmer's Market for Saturday September 12th

As you know, we are a seasonal farm market. Produce comes and goes as the season progresses. The transitions are relatively smooth, except the PEACH season. We have more customers dread the end of the PEACH season and we deeply worry about you. So, even though our PEACHES are at their end, Michael spent a lot of time contacting his neighbors to see if they might still have PEACHES and NECTARINES to help our customers transition. He has been able to work with a few of his neighbor orchards and we are stretching the season as long as we can. So instead of an abrupt end, spend this next week or two preparing for the real end to the peach season!
We will have a small amount of ENCORE, WHITE PEACHES, MANGO and WHITE NECTARINES that are ripe and tropical tasting.
Fortunately, we have moved to APPLE season which has come a bit early this year. And to help ease the peach loss, you can look forward to our ANNUAL HEIRLOOM APPLE TASTING which we are expanding to the ADAMS MORGAN APPLE FESTIVAL in partnership with the
Adams Morgan Partnership BID
which will feature an APPLE PIE CONTEST!! Details will follow. If you are an apple pie maker, consider entering the contest.
The date is Saturday, October 24th
. We will donate apples for the pies the week before to
pre-registered
pie makers.
Since the Jewish New Year is coming up starting this Sunday night, we'll continue to sell our RUBY JONATHAN, FUJI, GINGER GOLD and GALA APPLES at $1.49/lb (about $1 less than elsewhere). CHESTNUT and HONEYCRISP APPLES remain at $2.49/lb.
We will have a special on 1/2 BUSHELS for $25 (approx 25-30lbs).
We'll have a small amount of CONCORD GRAPES!
And a delicious red flesh seeded WATERMELON - nice and sweet.
For those of you who venture early, there's an incredibly rich and sweet orange fleshed HONEYDEW MELON - but just a limited amount.
If you'd like a quantity of TOMATOES for sauce, canning, salsa, etc.,
now's
the time to order them. The HEIRLOOM varieties we grow make the
best
sauce! But come early to get these .99/lb specials.
The unusually shaped with pretty colors, HEIRLOOM CHERRY TOMATOES have gotten rave reviews. The chefs we wholesale to can't get enough of them. Try them.
Also, if you want some of the PESTICIDE-FREE RED RASPBERRIES, get to the market early! ($4.50/box) (We visited a farmers market on Sunday and these were selling for $6.00!)
For those of you who want variety, we'll feature $15/worth of apples, nectarines, plums and peaches for $10!
