Adams Morgan Day this Sunday, Noon to 7pm!
|
For 46 years, Adams Morgan Day has been a family-friendly celebration with music, art and activities for all ages. Adams Morgan Day will take place on Sunday, September 8. The festival is planned entirely by volunteers. Residents and visitors alike are welcome to meet our neighborhood businesses, artists, and service organizations.
Be sure to visit the Adams Morgan Partnership BID's booth in the plaza in front of Marie Reed School. We'll have some giveaways and lots of great merch for sale including t-shirts, hats, old streetlight banners, and more! We'll also be raffling off a pair of tickets to the Commanders home opener vs. the Giants next Sunday, September 15.

Can you introduce yourself?
Hi, I’m Fatima Kazim, originally from Islamabad, Pakistan. I’m currently a junior at New York University.
What is your academic background?
I’m majoring in Interactive Media Arts with a minor in Social Science, concentrating in International Relations. My academic interests lie in the intersection of human-computer interaction and how technology can enhance our lives and businesses.
What excited you the most about starting this internship at Adams Morgan Partnership BID?
This is my first time in the U.S., and I’ve always wanted to experience working here, especially in the nation’s capital. The Adams Morgan Partnership BID particularly caught my attention because it allows me to work in a vibrant, diverse community. I get hands-on experience in event planning, business improvement, and marketing. Working in such a historically rich and culturally diverse neighborhood is an incredible opportunity.
What’s one thing you’re passionate about that has nothing to do with your studies or work?
In my free time, I’m passionate about painting. It’s a creative outlet that lets me unwind and express myself.
What’s one goal you’ve set for yourself this year, and how are you working toward it?
This year, one of my main goals is to explore new experiences through travel, meeting new people, and stepping out of my comfort zone. By immersing myself in different environments and making meaningful connections, I hope to gain a clearer understanding of my long-term career path and what truly excites me for the future.

Tuesday, September 10; 2 - 4pm at Venture X

Tailored to equip restaurant owners, managers, and staff with the knowledge and skills necessary to prevent and respond to criminal incidents and to handle non-violent crises through effective intervention and de-escalation techniques.
Attendees will learn how to maintain a safe and secure environment, protect employees and diners, and address conflicts peacefully.
The session will be led by Morgan C. Kane, retired Metropolitan Police Department Assistant Chief and 25-year veteran of the force.

Anti-Sexual Harassment Classes at RAMW
The Tipped Wage Workers Fairness Amendment Act (TWWF) requires that businesses that employ at least one tipped wage worker must receive anti-sexual harassment training by an OHR-certified trainer, for everyone on staff, every two years. The training can be completed online or in person as appropriate.

A new option for non-managerial employees and owner/operators is to take the training via a pre-recorded video provided by an OHR-certified trainer.
RAMW does not offer this option at this time. OHR is working to update its
certified trainer list
to denote trainers that have an online option. Email

Online Exam & On-site Class Options
Take your ServSafe Food Manager exam online at the RAMW office and receive your score and certificate immediately. $90 per person.
Schedule an Online Exam
(Available for those who have an expiring or expired certificate - proof of eligibility is required.)
RAMW offers training at your location for ServSafe Food Safety and Alcohol Manager training for 5 or more people.
Hosting requires a private and quiet area for the duration of the course and exam and TV screen (or large monitor) that is clearly visible to all participants to view instructional videos. Click for more information or to book a session.

In-Person Outreach Has Begun for 2024 DC Small Business Census

After reaching out to businesses by phone, survey takers have moved on to in-person outreach.
If you have not already responded to the census, survey takers wearing a white polo that says “Census Survey Team” may visit your business in person.
If your business is closed or if no staff present are able to respond to the survey, they will leave a leave-behind flyer at your place of business with a unique login ID to respond to the census. You can take the survey in your own time by visiting

Columbia Road Bus Priority Project Construction Update

, DDOT Transportation Planner on 9/5:

DDOT will be hanging posters today throughout the corridor informing people of what’s going on. There’s a QR code on the poster that takes people to the project website. I’ll see if we put one on the bulletin board by Truist.

DDOT will be proceeding with Phase 2 of the project this calendar year and will begin work in about two weeks.
This will not take as long Phase 1 because it only has two bus boarding platforms and one pedestrian refuge. Following that civil construction, DDOT contractors will proceed with resurfacing, striping, installing the protected bike lane and bus lane.
8/28 Update:
I am reaching out to provide an update on the progress of the Columbia Rd NW Bus Priority project construction. Thank you as always for your patience as we proceed with this project:
Erroneous sign placement -
You may have noticed that over the past weeks several signs were mistakenly placed along the corridor by DDOT’s contractor. We apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused. We are working with our contractor to correct the signs and address the root cause of the error to make sure it does not happen again. Part of the delay in fully correcting the signs is that the old signs were disposed of following their removal so new signs are being fabricated. We hope to have the signs fully corrected by the end of this week.
Progress to date –
Our contractors have been hard at work on the civil construction for “Phase 1” (east of 18th St NW) and should be finished with that work in about two weeks. There were substantial streetcar tracks that had to be removed, but the crew has become very efficient at removing those so the work has progressed ahead of schedule. The sixth of six bus boarding platforms in Phase 1 is currently under construction. The final civil construction elements in Phase 1 will be the two pedestrians refuges starting after this final platform is complete.

The next steps and approximate timeline for the project are as follows:

Close bus stops at Mintwood Pl – Start Monday, Sep 9th

Begin resurfacing and install temporary pavement markings – Start Monday Sep 9th

Install permanent pavement markings, vertical delineators (concrete blocks and flex posts), and signs – Start Monday Sep 16th or 23rd
-
Note: Tomorrow, the Capital Bikeshare station at 20th and Columbia Rd will move temporarily to the 1800 block of Wyoming while the road is being resurfaced.
