Celebrate the Season with an Interactive Light Display, Holiday Caroling & More!
|
You are invited to celebrate the most wonderful time of the year in Adams Morgan! It’s the perfect place to shop, dine, and support approximately 240 local, small businesses. Enjoy a variety of fun holiday activities and festive decorations, an interactive light display in the plaza, plenty of shops for all of your gift-giving needs, and an array of restaurants for every palate and pocketbook.
A month-long interactive light display is located in the plaza at Columbia Road and Adams Mill Road, NW throughout December! The illuminated display is ideal for selfies or holiday card photos - plus, you may even find a surprise mistletoe. Street light decorations can also be found throughout the neighborhood and will surely get you in the holiday spirit.
While holiday shopping, attending a holiday party, or enjoying a date night out in Adams Morgan, visitors can listen to holiday carolers in Dickensian costumes and the
Capital Classics Quartet
(members of the
Capital Chorus
) in the plaza on the following dates (weather permitting):

Metro trains and buses will run Sunday schedule for the holidays Dec. 25-26
|
On Christmas Day and the observed holiday, Sunday, Dec. 25 and Monday, Dec.26, Metrorail and Metrobus will operate on a Sunday schedule. MetroAccess customers will be able to travel on the holiday; however, subscription trips will be canceled.

Make Metro Your Safe Trip on New Year’s Eve
|
Are you planning to celebrate New Year’s Eve in the region? #YourMetro announced
Metrorail and Metrobus service will be extended until 2 a.m. on Sunday, Jan.1. Additionally, all trips will be free for customers who choose Metro after 8 p.m. on Saturday, Dec.31.
To promote public safety in the region, Metro’s Board of Directors gave direction to the General Manager and Chief Executive Officer to provide free trips and extended hours this New Year’s Eve.

|
Mayor Bowser recently released the
FY23 Small Business Enterprise (SBE) Opportunity Guide
, also known as the Green Book. The Green Book assists SBEs in navigating the local government procurement process by providing an agency-by-agency overview of SBE spending availability.
For the third year in a row, SBEs can search for opportunities in real-time using the interactive dashboard on the Green Book website –
GreenBookDC.com
. The site brings spending data from the Green Book to life with dynamic data that allows businesses to sort opportunities quickly by district agency and product.

|
CNHED’s Executive Leadership Education Venture Advancing Talented Entrepreneurs (ELEVATE) Program provides best-in-class training to minority-owned small businesses (MBEs) located in DC. Through ELEVATE, MBEs work to acquire new skills that allow them to more effectively and efficiently manage their business, products, and services, as well as increase revenue and employment.
ELEVATE is the only minority executive education program in DC that is backed by a university partner. The 3-month ELEVATE curriculum, developed by the George Washington School of Business (GWSB) Center for Entrepreneurial Excellence, is led by GWSB faculty members.

|
Food Waste Innovation Grants
support food businesses to cut their food costs, reduce waste disposal fees, and minimize rodents in our neighborhoods. Last year, businesses kept 70,000 pounds of food out of the garbage and saved thousands of dollars! Grantees innovated:

Improved refrigeration with new freezers or fridges

Started growing food onsite with indoor and outdoor production

Expanded food preservation with dehydrators and other techniques
-
Implemented food donation programs
-
Upgraded software to better manage inventory, and
-
Installed onsite compactors and composting systems
In FY23, DSLBD is offering $300,000 in grants to District food and beverage businesses to reduce surplus food, donate leftovers, and better divert food waste from your garbage. Learn more about eligibility requirements and potential uses of these funds in our Request for Applications, at

DDOT Applies Tailormade Technology to Ensure Compliance of DC’s Parking Cashout Law
|
The District Department of Transportation (DDOT) announced the launch of a new online reporting tool that collects data from DC employers about how they are complying with DC’s Transportation Benefits Equity Amendment of 2020, also known as DC’s Parking Cashout Law. The law, signed by Mayor Bowser in 2020, gives employees an option to keep free or subsidized parking at work or choose to take a cashout for transit instead, helping to reduce drive-alone commuting rates in the District and advance DC’s sustainability goals.
DC’s Parking Cashout Law requires DC employers with 20 or more covered employees to either: (1) offer a Clean Air Fringe Benefit to employees receiving a parking benefit, as money for transit fare or vanpools and additional compensation; (2) develop a transportation demand management (TDM) plan with strategies to reduce how many employees drive alone to work; (3) pay a Clean Air Compliance fee of $100 per month per employee who parks; or (4) report an exemption. Employers can also choose to comply with the law by eliminating free or subsidized parking or reporting that they already did not offer parking benefits.

The DC Department of Public Works has opened another round of public comments to the
Zero Waste DC Plan
draft framework. DPW is considering a number of recommendations affecting restaurant operations, including how food waste, reusable containers, and recycling are handled. Comments are due by December 30.

2023 Alcoholic Beverage Control (ABC) Board and Alcoholic Beverage Regulation Administration (ABRA) office calendar
is now available.
The ABC Board will reconvene from their winter recess on Wednesday, January 11. Agendas and streaming links are published in advance of their weekly meetings

On days the ABC Board is in recess, ABRA will maintain its normal hours of operation (Monday-Friday, 8:30 a.m.-4:00 p.m.).
