RED, WHITE AND BASIL opened on Wednesday!
Jim Ball and Christopher Lynch, owners of thirteen-year-old
L’ Enfant Café
are ecstatic to announce the opening of the fresh and saucy pasta bar,
Red White and Basil
(1781 Florida Ave NW, 202-518-7021).
A new style of tasting menu emerges with this pasta joint, where for just $16 guests can grab a three course dinner to eat-in or take-away. Pasta comes in a variety of shapes, all of which are made fresh, in house daily. And of course, sauce comes in red, white and basil options. Start with a house salad before choosing the pasta and a sauce to build your own dish, and then finish on a sweet note with an authentic mini cannoli. Vegan and gluten free pasta options are available.
In addition to the three-course menu, Red, White and Basil offers starters/sides including a focaccia topped with tomato and melted cheese, a bowl of meatballs, a fresh, classic caprese salad and more for $3 to $7. Daily specials include ravioli du jour, baked pasta and other hearty options that will vary. True to tradition, beverage options will include red and white wines (from a tap!) and Italian beer. Enjoy filtered, still or sparkling water for no additional charge.
Chef Travis Hearne
oversees the kitchen at Red, White and Basil in addition to that of sister restaurant, L’Enfant Café. Hearne has worked at the Inn at Little Washington, a variety of Passion Food Group restaurants and Charlotte’s famed Cajun Queen. As is the case in Italy, dining at Red White & Basil can be quick while also being quality. For ultimate ease, Chef Hearne provides his menu as a take-away option, which can easily be picked up on the way home from work.
The modern menu is complemented by cheeky decor. Located in the space formerly occupied by Hans Pedr’ Kaffe, Lynch and Ball have created additional seats with this build out. All bar height tables and a corner bar provide casual seating, looked on by a larger than life photo of women vying to win a pasta-eating competition. A remodeled bathroom is wallpapered in what serves as a glossary of pasta with images and corresponding names. Patio seating is available, weather permitting.
Red White & Basil is open for dinner daily at 6pm until 10pm Monday through Friday and 11pm on weekends. Soon after opening, Chef Hearne plans to offer lunch and weekend brunch.

MPD Third District Awards Banquet - December 12th
The MPD Third District's Citizens Advisory Council (CAC) is planning an awards dinner to honor/award officers from the third district on Saturday Dec 12, 2015 at 7pm at the Washington Navy Yard.
There are 15 awardees - 8 PSA Officers, 6 special officers and 1 citizen to be recognized.
This event helps recognize officers who go above and beyond to make our daily lives in the city better. You can show your support by purchasing a ticket, sponsoring a table, or placing an ad in our souvenir booklet. This event is designed with fun in mind, as well as with the broader goal of building community strength and harmony.
The Citizens Advisory Council banquet serves two purposes. It recognizes outstanding MPD officers for their commitment to the community and acts as a fund- raiser to provide financial support for the CAC to use at other future community events. The banquet promises to be an enjoyable evening honoring the work of those who help keep our neighborhoods safe.

The SWEET POTATOES are "cured"! No, they were never sick, but this is an old-fashioned process of placing them in a 100º room for 10 days. There are several varieties so check them out.
We'll have lots of seasonal goodies as well.
Think ahead for gift baskets for the holidays with our HONEY, CIDER, APPLES and other goodies.
Mark your calendar for May 22, 2016, our FARM VISIT DAY. It really makes a difference to see the farm in action, see your produce and fruit growing without chemical pesticides and meet all of our farm staff. There is no cost, but it's a veggie pot luck. You'll get to swim in the Licking Creek and enjoy a peaceful day in the country.
Make sure we have your email so you can get our notice about CHRISTMAS TREES and to sign up for the 2016 CSA season.
We cut and sell our CHRISTMAS TREES to order. You'll get our email announcement around Thanksgiving and then you can order (right after Thanksgiving) for a pick up at our Saturday Adams Morgan Farmers Market. You may also want to arrange to come up to the farm and cut your own.
We're in the process of putting together a FARM CALENDAR. We hope to have it for distribution by Thanksgiving. If you can get us a small ad before Monday morning, we should be able to get it in. Talk to us at the market.
DON'T FORGET TO BRING YOUR BAGS and extras for the market if you have (we can use newspaper bags as well). It pains us to give out or sell plastic bags!!
Our Adams Morgan Farmers market extends until the week before Christmas. Rain or shine, snow, sleet, hail from 8:00am - 1:00pm.
