The next Adams Morgan Partnership BID (AMPBID) Board of Directors' meeting will be Tuesday, September 24th, 2013 at 5 PM at Maga Design Studios at 1838 Columbia Road, NW. This meeting has been postponed a couple weeks because of board member travel and lack of a quorum.  Among other topics, we will review the "publisher boxes on public space" regulations recently released by DDOT. These are also known as newspaper boxes.  Hope you can join us!

Annual Meeting - October 15

The Annual Meeting of the AMPBID will be Tuesday, October 15, 2012 at 5pm, at Maga Design Studios at 1838 Columbia Road, NW. Postcards will be mailed to all property owners and business owners this week.

AMPBID Annual Meeting Election Process

At the October 15th Annual Meeting, BID members will have the opportunity to vote for candidates for 5 board slots: three property owners and two business owners. The board members currently holding those positions have been renominated for another term and have agreed to serve if elected.

Those are:

* Jon Wilson, property owner

* Adam Crain, property owner

* Bill Thomas, property owner

* Arianne Bennett, business owner

* C. Jonathan Wells, business owner

AMPBID Annual Meeting Election Process

Each person eligible for election as a member of the Board may be nominated by: 1) the nominating committee, or 2) by a member petition submitted to the Chair of the Nominating Committee (Matt Wexler) at least 30 days prior to the date of the meeting (so additional nominations must be received by September 15); provided that only business owners can nominate business owners and property owners can only nominate property owners and a petition shall require the signature of no less than ten (10) members to nominate a member of the Board. Each nominee either shall be present at the annual meeting or shall consent to such nomination by a written document.

Voting

Per the by-laws, any properties for which BID taxes are over 60 days delinquent, may not vote nor may they nominate members to the board.

For each class of member, the ballot will list all the candidate names, and members will vote for the number of open slots in that category. For example, there are two business owner slots. All members will have the opportunity to vote for two candidates from the list of all business owner candidates.

Proxies

Proxy votes are allowed.

Pursuant to the BID bylaws, those interested in voting in the board elections by proxy can either contact the BID to request a proxy form, or can develop their own form, as long as it includes: the date of the meeting at which it is applicable (October 15) full names, addresses and the dated signatures of both the individual issuing the proxy and the witness(es) to the signature. The proxy voter can be anyone to whom the property or business owner designates to vote for them and DOES NOT have to be a member of the Adams Morgan Partnership BID. All proxy forms must meet all these criteria to be accepted.

The BID will have a proxy form available by fax, mail and by email.

Adams Morgan Main Street hosts the 35th annual Adams Morgan Day Festival on Sunday, Sept 8, 20123 from 12 noon to 7 pm. Main location is 18th Street N.W. between Columbia Rd and Florida; with Arts on Belmont on Belmont Road between 18th Street and Columbia Road. “Arts on Belmont” opens at 10am.

Adams Morgan Day is characterized by two large signature music stages and other innovative & dynamic cultural, music, and arts. The famous Columbia and Florida Stages (located strategically on 18th Street at Columbia Rd and near Florida Ave.) feature live music acts from all genres.

Mary's Center Zumbathon during Adams Morgan Day

Get Down, Feel Great! Groove with Mary’s Center and join the fun on Adams Morgan Day. Mary's Center is partnering with Adams Morgan Main Street to host the first-annual Mary's Center Zumbathon!

Zumba©-certified instructors will lead this family-friendly cardio-dance marathon with all proceeds going directly to help underserved families in our community access health, education, and social services.

Date: Sunday, September 8, 2013

Time: 10 AM to 1 PM

Location: Marie Reed Community Center Field

Tickets: $10 per person or $25 for a family of four

ABRA licensees: Reminder to pick up new sign

The Alcoholic Beverage Regulation Administration (ABRA) is reminding all ABC licensees to pick up the new alcoholic beverage warning sign as soon as possible at ABRA’s office.

• Where: Frank D. Reeves Municipal Center, 2000 14th St. NW, Suite 400 S., 4th floor

• When: 8:30 a.m.-4 p.m., Monday-Friday

A licensee—or their representative—will be required to fill out a form acknowledging receipt of the sign. The new sign must be posted in a conspicuous place on the licensed premises no later than Wednesday, Nov. 27 .  Failure o post tthe warning sign in a conspicuous place by Nov. 27 may result in the issuance of a fine.

DC Nightlife Association meeting - September 10th at  2pm

Tuesday, September 10th at 2 p.m.

Town Nightclub (8th and “V” Streets, NW) – between Florida Avenue and “V” Streets, NW

ABRA will be making a presentation at the next meeting of the DC Nightlife Association covering, among other things :

The renewal process for tavern and nightclub licenses which must be accomplished before the end of September. The process for amending any provisions in a “Settlement Agreement” as part of the license renewal process. The application process for “Extended Hours” for the 19 Holiday Nights in 2014. Noise regulations and complaints, Soft Closing for extending Operating Hours with no change to Hours of Alcohol Sales, Books and Record Keeping Requirements, and other important topics to help establishments stay in compliance and avoid violations.

They will be distributing the new, single, consolidated ABRA “Warning Sign” which will replace the multiple ABRA signs which everyone is required to post in their establishments.

They will have ID Checking Books on hand to pass out. And, they will have the ID Checking Posters for distribution as well (for those establishment which do not already have them.

They are very pleased that the Deputy Mayor for Public Safety and Justice, Paul Quander, will be attending to share his thoughts on safety in the nightlife industry .
