Adams Morgan Fall PorchFest: October 14
|
Adams Morgan PorchFest is officially a twice-a-year event with its return on Saturday, October 14 from 2pm - 6pm.
DC's favorite music festival has grown in size and popularity every year and this fall
we're really going big and will be closing 18th Street to vehicle traffic between Kalorama and Columbia Roads during the event!
This year's event will have a headliner at 5pm -- Mark Bryan (of Hootie and the Blowfish) and his band The Screaming Trojans will be playing on 18th Street. Other featured bands include The Experience Band and The Airport 77s.

New this year: PorchFest T-shirts at Neighborhood Retailers
|
In the past buying a PorchFest t-shirt was tricky. They were only available during the four hours of the event and only from the one tent where thousands of people were crowded to get their maps & wristbands. This year we've come up with a better plan -- we'll be partnering with neighborhood retailers including
Urban Dwell
,
Smash Records
,
Le Bustiere
, and
Ace Hardware
to offer the shirts for sale for two weeks -- the week leading up to PorchFest and the week after. We've partnered with
Tattoo Paradise
to design the shirt -- it's not quite finished so we can't show it yet, but trust us, you're going to love it.
If you're looking for t-shirts from Spring PorchFest this past May, we'll have those for sale at a discounted price at our HQ tent on 18th Street during the event.

Last call for Adams Morgan Nonprofits

We would like to invite nonprofits located in Adams Morgan to table on 18th Street during PorchFest. PorchFest brings tens of thousands of people into the neighborhood every year and this should be a great opportunity to get info out to a lot of new people. There's no cost to participate but you will be responsible for supplying tables, tents, chairs, and anything else you might need. The street closure is from 1pm - 7pm and the event runs from 2pm - 6pm.

Adams Morgan Apple Festival returns on October 28
|
The 10th Annual Adams Morgan Apple Pie Baking Contest and the 15th Annual Licking Creek Bend Farm Heirloom Apple Tasting returns to Adams Morgan on
Saturday, October 28 from 10am - 1pm
!
The highly-anticipated community event will take place in front of The Line Hotel and directly across the street from the farmer’s market in Unity Park at Euclid and Champlain Streets NW.

Businesses: Let us know about your apple specials!
You can find apples in pies, tarts, martinis, salads, and more, but can people find any of those things (or other apple creations) at your business?
We would love to send Apple Festival attendees into Adams Morgan businesses before or after the event, so to play off of the “apple” theme, please let us know if you’d like to feature some sort of apple menu item (beverage, dessert, swag, etc.) and we can promote it leading up to the event and on that day. It can be an existing menu item or something special for that weekend. And retailers, we're open to submissions from you as well as long as it's apple-related.

Stephen Brice has joined our team of Safety Ambassadors so when you see him around the neighborhood, be sure to say hi! Stephen is a lifelong resident of the DC area and will usually be working four days a week. Our Safety Ambassadors work a noon - 8pm schedule and with this new addition to our team, we now will have two of them on duty most days. You're invited to join the Adams Morgan Partnership BID and the US Attorney's Office for the District of Columbia in a conversation about the criminal justice system in DC. The first session will include a general overview with a focus on the system through the lens of a typical case that might impact businesses. The second session will be an overview of barring notices including who it applies to, when to get one, and how it's enforced. The third session will be an overview of Community Impact Statements, how to write one, when to submit it, and how it can impact sentencing.

Streatery Permits Extended to Next Year
District Department of Transportation officials extended Streatery permits to Dec. 31, 2024.

Why?
Permits were scheduled to expire in December, but the extra year gives more time to finalize Streatery rules and provide a transition period.

Should I Renew my Current Permit?
No; however, operators should reprint their permit from TOPS and post with the new expiration date when available.

Important News About Health Insurance Coverage
During the Public Health Emergency (PHE) enacted during the pandemic, many people in our industry could obtain health insurance coverage through Medicaid. Now that the PHE has ended, people who have health insurance coverage through Medicaid have to renew through redetermination for the first time in several years.
To ensure that important information is received and critical deadlines are met, contact information must be updated with the state agency of residence for redetermination of eligibility of coverage through Medicaid.

Indigenous Peoples' Day Office Closure, Extended Hours
|
Office Closure
ABCA’s office will be closed on Monday, October 9 in observance of Indigenous Peoples' Day, and will reopen at 8:30 a.m. on Tuesday, October 10.
Extended Holiday Hours
For Indigenous Peoples' Day weekend, alcohol licensed establishments enrolled in the
Extended Holiday Hours Program
may sell, serve, and allow on-premises consumption of alcohol until 4:00 a.m. and operate 24-hours starting the evening of Friday, October 6 and ending at 4:00 a.m. on Monday, October 9.
Licensees may confirm their enrollment by locating their establishment’s name on the
2023 Indigenous Peoples' Day roster

To Register
There is no fee to register in the Extended Holiday Hours Program. Registrations are accepted on a rolling basis, and once approved, venues are eligible to participate in all following permitted holidays.

apply to enrolled and prospective registrants.
Registration must be received 30-days before the first holiday a licensee would like to extend their hours. The next registration deadline is for:

💸 Commercial Property Acquisition Fund (DMPED)
The Commercial Property Acquisition Fund will provide eligible businesses with down payment assistance of up to $750,000 or 25% of the sale price, whichever is less, for the acquisition of commercial property in the District. This year, businesses will need to complete three mandatory sessions in order to apply for the Fund. OPEN now on a rolling basis until funds are expended.
