1) Results of Special AMPBID Meeting on June 9
Pursuant
to Section 18 of the Business Improvement Districts Act of 1996 (DC Law 11-134,
DC Official Code 2-1215.18), as amended by DC Law 18-0306, the AMPBID Board of
Directors voted on November 11, 2010 to notify the Mayor of the AMPBID's desire
to extend its status as a registered BID for another 5 year term. Subsequently,
at the April 14, 2011 Board meeting, the Board approved a revised 5-Year
Business Plan along with amendments to the Bylaws.
According to the Bylaws both documents must then be ratified
by the AMPBID membership to become effective. Upon ratification, the
revised 5-year Business Plan is part of the full package that is sent to the
Mayor for reauthorization. The revised bylaws are not part of the
reauthorization package. Ratification was accomplished on June 9, 2011 at a
special meeting called for that purpose where a quorum was obtained.
A question was raised as to the standing of one designated
proxy voter, therefore, the matter will be referred to counsel for review.
Until such time that a determination can be made, all proxy votes from
that designated proxy voter will be removed from the count. However, even
with these votes removed, the results of the election remain the same. A
recount of the votes was conducted on Friday, June 10 2011 under the oversight
of DSLBD and the vote tally (not counting the votes of the proxy voter in
question) was 289 in favor of ratification and 169 opposed. DSLBD will
maintain the voting records.

members have also requested a copy of the sign-in sheets from the special
meeting on June 9, 2011. We apologize for not posting these on the AMPBID

2) Update on 18th Street Streetscape Construction
From Tom Pipkin,Community Relations Liaison:
There is an update to the schedule that is contrary to what was originally
communicated at the general
public at the ANC1C meeting on 6/1/11.
The streetcar track removal and water main installation will continue north
on 18th St. to Columbia Rd through the summer. This work was part of the original plan to continue
until completed, as opposed to the road and sidewalk work which will not begin
until mid September (after the Adams Morgan Day Festival).
It is projected that this work will be finished in approximately 2 weeks,
weather permitting. This schedule is dependent on not running into any
unanticipated utility issues. The team is confident however that work
will move quickly in this last segment. As before, work will be completed daily
at 3:30-4:00pm.
Apologies for the change, we try and provide the most accurate information

this particular piece, or for any other questions you may have.

4) FREE Adams Morgan Summer Concert Series continues on June 18th
The Third Annual FREE Summer Concert Series began on June 4th and continues for the next four Saturdays from 5 to 7 pm in the public plaza in
front of BB&T Bank at the northeast corner of Columbia Road/Adams Mill
Road/18th Street, NW in Adams Morgan. We are appreciative of the
generous financial support for this year’s concert series from BB&T Bank.
The FREE Summer Concert Series will continue through July 9th
every Saturday night from 5 to 7 pm. We will have a limited number of chairs
for audience members. Please feel free to bring your own beach chair. In the
event of rain, the concert will be canceled for that day. Due to the nature of
the series, there will not be a rain date.
This Saturday, June 18th Aubriot will be playing.
Aubriot
Aubriot (“aub-ree-oh”) is a D.C.-based, pop-rock band that performs original
rock songs and pop covers from the 80s, 90s, and 00s. They perform at clubs
around town, including DC9, the Velvet Lounge, and the Wonderland Ballroom.
Their influences include U2, Death Cab for Cutie, The Cure, Radiohead, Sigur
Ros, Nine Inch Nails, Smashing Pumpkins, The Velvet Underground, Explosions in
the Sky, Godspeed You! Black Emperor, and The Gloria Record. Their songs are
built around strong melodies, atmospheric guitar riffs, driving bass lines, and

5) FY2012 AMPBID budget approved and is available
At the June 9th, regularly scheduled AMPBID Board meeting (for which there was a quorum present) the FY2012 Budget was approved. According to the AMPBID Bylaws, the Board has met its obligation to adopt an operating budget no later than June 15th. Copies of the FY2012 Budget are available in the AMPBID office at 1802 Belmont Road, NW from 9:30 AM to 6 PM daily or by contacting Kristen at kbarden@adamsmorganonline.org or by phone at 202-997-0783.
6) Financial Literacy Event - June 18th
The 1st Annual Passport to Financial Literacy will take
place on Saturday, June 18, 2011 from 11a.m.-3p.m. at the Deanwood Recreation
Center, located at 1350 49th Street, NE.
DC middle and high school-aged
children (and their parents/guardians) can take part in this free, drop-in
event that will feature interactive experiences based on life’s financial
realities. Participants will create their adult lives: getting a job; buying a
car; identifying housing options and other choices meant to demonstrate how to
“keep it all together” financially. (NOTE: Child must attend with
parent/guardian/caregiver)
Passport to Financial Literacy™ is designed to encourage
much-needed dialogue between parents/caregivers and children regarding
financial realities that we all encounter, according to organizer Marlena
Jareaux. Jareaux is the author of “26 Financial Things to Teach Your Parents,”
upon which Passport to Financial Literacy™ is based.
“It is critically important to the wealth and well-being of
current and future generations to start positive habits early such as saving
and knowing the distinction between wants and needs,” Jareaux says. “A glance
in any newspaper shows why it’s important for the next generation to learn
this, and why adults could use a refresher course,” she adds. “Bank on DC
provides economic mobility and wellness to help district residents save money
and build their financial future, this provided a natural synergy with this
event.”
The value of education, occupation and salary info, living
expenses, taxes, bank accounts, credit cards, paying bills and many other
subjects will be covered in the interactive event.
