Saturday November 30th is

SMALL BUSINESS SATURDAY

https://www.americanexpress.com/us/small-business/Shop-Small/marketing-materials?linknav=us-open-shopsmall-subnav-promote

Shift Your Shopping For Good, Causetown's national holiday campaign to encourage consumers to "shift" their shopping from big box chains to independent businesses that give back to their community.
It is soooo simple. Here is how it works:
1. During the campaign (11/30-12/3), you commit to donating a portion of purchases to charity IF the customer mentions the promotion.
2. When a customer mentions the promotion, you write down the purchase amount and the customer email, and report that to Causetown.
That's it! We email each customer a link to choose their favorite charity to benefit (any registered nonprofit in the country). We send you one invoice for all donations due, and we disburse 100% of the funds to the chosen charities.
Here's why you should join:
1. Kevin Bacon will be filming a commercial promoting the campaign, and by joining, you have a chance of being mentioned in the commercial or on social media by Kevin Bacon.
2. There will be national press covering the campaign, and encouraging consumers to patronize business involved in the campaign.
3. DC already has 39+ businesses participating, and I can guarantee that there will be additional press covering the DC campaign.
4. Because any nonprofit can benefit, every nonprofit in town has an incentive to tell their supporters to patronize your business, and dozens of DC nonprofits have already committed to doing so.
5. It's free to participate. The worst thing that happens is that nobody comes in because of the promotion, and you get a bunch of free local and national press for your business.
Ready to join? Click here:
(Even though the national campaign is called "Shift Your Shopping For Good," the local branding for the campaign is "Shop Local First Week." Our good friends at Think Local First are behind this too!)
Wondering what amount to donate?
We encourage businesses to donate 15% of purchases, but you can donate any amount you like. You can limit it to certain purchases, or you can even donate a flat amount per purchase (like $5 for every drop in class purchased). It's up to you.
Get stuck on the website?
Tell me what amount you want to donate, and I'll set it up for you.
Other questions?
Want to help make this the "biggest small business give back EVER"?
Thanks!!

As many of you already know the Philippines was recently devastated by Typhoon Haiyan and over 4,000 have been confirmed dead with most experts estimating the total loss of life closer to 10,000.  While these statistics are staggering, they don't come close to conveying the loss and struggle that the Filipino people are experiencing as we speak.

As a Filipino-American this tragedy has hit close to home for Cashion's Partner and General Manager Justin Abad.

As such, Cashion's will be hosting an evening dedicated to raise money toward the ongoing relief efforts of the Red Cross on Monday, November 25th from 6pm-10pm.

For $40, buy a ticket here and sample food and drink from some of the most talented Chef's and mixologists DC has to offer.

Here is the confirmed list of guest Chefs and Bartenders, with a few more to be added in coming days:

Ann Cashion, Johnny's Half Shell and Taqueria National
Sam Adkins, William Jeffrey's Tavern

Safer Biking Laws in DC

Yay for bicyclists! With interest in biking and bike infrastructure on the rise throughout the DC area, Mayor Vincent Gray signed the Bicycle Safety Amendment Act on October 17. The legislation must go through Congress for a 30-day review but could potentially become law sometime in November.

Among the act’s many provisions that will make biking safer in the District, bicyclists will now be permitted to follow the pedestrian crosswalk signal at intersections. This will allow bikers the same head start those on foot often get before a light turns green. In addition, the act mandates safe detours for bicyclists if there are projects that block access to sidewalks or bike lanes.

If the act does become law, which we expect it will, vehicle drivers will now be held responsible for crashes involving bicyclists. The act will introduce a “failure to yield” infraction that would be accompanied by a penalty of three points and a $250 fine as well as a “colliding with a bicyclist while failing to yield” infraction that would be accompanied by a penalty of six points and a $500 fine.

For all the readers out there who would like a little more clarification on the Bicycle Safety Amendment Act, you can read it in its entirety here: http://dcclims1.dccouncil.us/images/00001/20131003110309.pdf .
