Adams Morgan Partnership BID Board meeting June 10th, 2014

T he next Adams Morgan Partnership BID (AMPBID) Board of Directors' meeting will be Tuesday, June 10th, 2014 at 5 PM at NEW LOCATION 1640 Columbia Road, NW at the Festival Center in the conference room on the main floor.

We will discuss and possibly vote on a draft FY2015 AMPBID budget.

YES! Organic Announces Cents for Change

Yes! Organic Market is pleased to launch a new program, Yes! Cents for Change , aimed at building goodwill in our communities and encouraging customers to bring their own bags when they shop. While some retailers will refund customers $.05 for providing their own bags, many customers find this small return negligible. By instead pooling together these five cent credits, our customers can help us make tangible differences in our communities. We are proud to have such environmentally conscious customers, many of whom already bring their own bags shopping. We hope this initiative will further serve as a reminder of the environmental benefits of reusing bags, as well as providing a simple way to contribute to local organizations.

Our Point of Sale system will tally each sale in which the customer does not opt for a disposable bag.  The money will be split equally between a few pre-selected charitable organizations for a six-month period (January-June), and then we will rotate to new organizations for July-December.

The Yes! Cents for Change will be live on the website www.yesorganicmarket.com closer to the program start (beginning of July). There will also be a new "Community" page for the website, that will talk about Yes! Cents for Change and other things such as how to request a donation, their energy efficient light bulbs that are subsidized by DC Sustainable Energy Utility, and how customers can get a $35 gift card to Yes! when they sign up for clean energy.

Yes! Organic Market is a family-owned local grocery chain (Adams Morgan store is located at 1825 Columbia Road, NW) offering fresh, natural and organic foods. We are committed to bringing healthy food options to underserved areas and have stores in six unique neighborhoods of DC and one in Hyattsville, MD.   We are seeking suggestions of local non-profits doing impactful work from community leaders like you. Whether an organization of one or fifty, we believe in showing our gratitude to those who are helping local residents, animals and/or the environment.

Movie Nights at Marie Reed Field with PTA - TWO LEFT - June 10 and June 24th

The first movie of Adams Morgan Movie Nights was a huge success thanks to overwhelming support from the community.  Over 400 people were in attendance and we overheard more than a few comments about the new field at Marie Reed being one of the best outdoor movie venues in the city!

Our next movie is Tuesday June 10th with “All the President’s Men,” (#77 on AFI’s  list of 100 greatest films of all time)  followed by Wes Anderson’s “Rushmore” (“a particular treat for its skewed, hilarious memories of a cutthroat boyhood" -- NYT) on Tuesday June 24th.

Tuesday, June 10th at dusk : All the President’s Men - “Reporters Woodward and Bernstein uncover the details of the Watergate scandal that leads to President Nixon’s resignation.”

Tuesday, June 24th at dusk : Rushmore - “The king of Rushmore prep school is put on academic probation.”

The Adams Morgan Partnership BID is organizing this series along with the Marie Reed Elementary School Parent Teacher Association, which will be selling refreshments at the event to raise funds for the school.

There will be FREE bike valet available each night. City Bikes will help out on June 10 and 24th. Local favorites Pleasant Pops will be selling their eclectic (and delicious) homemade popsicles on site, and the Marie H. Reed Elementary School PTA will have popcorn, candy and cold drinks available.

Limited edition screen-printed tote bags containing deals and gifts from Adams Morgan businesses will be handed out to the first 150 attendees each night by City Paper Readers Poll “Best of DC” winners Meeps so get there early!

Sixth Annual Summer Concert series continues on SATURDAY JUNE 7th

There will be another fantastic line up of bands playing in the BB&T Plaza at Columbia Road and Adams Mill Road for six Saturdays in May and June from 5 to 7 pm (May 3, May 17th, May 31, June 7, June 21 and June 28).

DDOTs Long Range Transportation Plan - comments due by July 6th

DDOT's North-South Corridor Planning Study

3rd Series of Public Meetings for North-South Corridor Planning Study Announced

The District Department of Transportation (DDOT) will host the third and final round of public meetings in June 2014 for a planning study that examines opportunities for public transportation improvements in the north-south corridor through the District of Columbia.

At the final round of public meetings, DDOT will report back on what we have heard from the community, present analysis for potential streetcar routes, and provide an overview of the next steps in the process.  These routes have been evaluated using criteria such as ridership potential and traffic.  The meetings will be open house style and will include two opportunities for participants to hear an overview presentation.

The same information will be presented at all three public meetings.

The study area is focused on a 9-mile, north-south corridor that connects the Takoma/Silver Spring area to the Buzzard Point/Southwest Waterfront area. The study area extends from approximately 16th Street NW to 5th Street NW, across the National Mall, and into Southwest.
