Adams Morgan Apple Festival returns Saturday
|
The 10th Annual Adams Morgan Apple Pie Baking Contest and the 15th Annual Licking Creek Bend Farm Heirloom Apple Tasting returns to Adams Morgan on
Saturday, October 28 from 10am - 1pm
!
The highly-anticipated community event will take place in front of The Line Hotel and directly across the street from the farmer’s market in Unity Park at Euclid and Champlain Streets NW.
Each contestant bakes several pies, most of which (except for what the judges taste) are sliced and sold to the public. All of the proceeds from slice sales will go directly to
Jubilee Jumpstart
. Slice sales should start at about 11am, and they typically go quickly.

Adams Morgan Fall PorchFest moved to November 4
|
Due to the bad weather we decided to postpone PorchFest (originally scheduled for October 14). We are busy rebooking bands, reconfirming locations and volunteers, and preparing for a great event on November 4.
The
website
currently has the lineup for the original date, but there will likely be some changes to bands and locations before the rescheduled lineup is finalized.
Adams Morgan PorchFest is officially a twice-a-year event with its return on Saturday, November 4 from 2pm - 6pm.
DC's favorite music festival has grown in size and popularity every year and this fall
we're really going big and will be closing 18th Street to vehicle traffic between Kalorama and Columbia Roads during the event!

New this year: PorchFest T-shirts at Neighborhood Retailers
|
In the past buying a PorchFest t-shirt was tricky. They were only available during the four hours of the event and only from the one tent where thousands of people were crowded to get their maps & wristbands. This year we've come up with a better plan -- we are partnering with neighborhood retailers

We would like to invite nonprofits located in Adams Morgan to table on 18th Street during PorchFest. PorchFest brings tens of thousands of people into the neighborhood every year and this should be a great opportunity to get info out to a lot of new people. There's no cost to participate but you will be responsible for supplying tables, tents, chairs, and anything else you might need. The street closure is from 1pm - 7pm and the event runs from 2pm - 6pm.

As a component of this conference activity, they are creating a flier that highlights each neighborhood and showcases BIPOC- and immigrant-owned small businesses within them.

Bowser Seeks to Curb Retail Theft, Drug Markets
DC Mayor Muriel Bowser Monday introduced the
Addressing Crime Trends Now Act
, which among other measures would create new penalties for organized retail theft and allow police to temporarily declare drug-free zones to hinder open-air drug markets.

Bowser’s bill would also redefine what is a police chokehold, allow limited vehicle pursuits, and allow officers to review body-camera video before filing a report.

DC Parking Cashout Law
requires businesses who offer free or subsidized parking to employees to offer a Clean Air Fringe Benefit, develop a transportation management plan, or pay a Clean Air Compliance fee.

A parking cashout is a benefit where employees can receive compensation or alternative transportation benefits in exchange for giving up their parking benefit.

This is a reminder that
the medical cannabis business license open application period for standard and social equity applicants closes at 4:00 p.m. on Monday, October 30, 2023
. License types available are limited to Courier, Cultivation Center, and Manufacturer.
Applications received by any amount of time outside the stated open application period will be rejected without notice. Application fees must be paid within one (1) business day following formal notification of application acceptance by ABCA. Fees, including the discounted rate for social equity applicants, are detailed at
abca.dc.gov
.
