1) AMPBID Monthly Board Meeting - July 14 at 5 pm and pre-meeting with MPD Captain Aubrey Mongal
The next
AMPBID Board meeting is Thursday July 14th at 5 PM
at the Third District
Headquarters MPD, 1620 V Street, NW, Washington, DC in the Snyder Conference Room.
At 4:30 pm, MPD PSA 303 Captain Aubrey Mongal has agreed to meet with BID members about security concerns in Adams Morgan.
On the board meeting agenda immediately following the meeting with Captain Mongal, will be an update on the
18th Street Streetscape project, including a report on the DC Water and sewer
line replacement work, a report from the marketing committee, an update on
the Unity Park vendors and a resolution on the DDOT Ward 1 Enhanced Residential Parking Program (ERPP).
2) Update on the 18th Street Streetscape Construction
Hopefully people are encouraged by the significant visible progress made in the last few weeks.
The sidewalk on the south side of Florida and 18th Street is complete and they are preparing to finish the new sidewalks on the east side of the 2000 block of 18th Street, NW. Those sidewalks are 4 feet wider than previously. The new island in the intersection should be complete within the next week. The 18th and Florida intersection should be reopened in the next couple weeks.
The jersey barriers in the 2000 and 2100 blocks of 18th Street will be moved over slightly to the east side so that work can begin on the west side of those blocks.
The water main and street car track removal will continue up to Columbia Road in 40 foot increments but should be finished within the next 10 days.
Just behind them the contractor is connecting the water laterals to each business or property to the new main water line with 2 inch copper pipes. This will result in a short 15-20 minute water shut off when they actually connect the two lines. DC Water will work with each business to avoid adverse impact. Electrical connections may also be slightly affected during this work but the impact should be minimal.

3) L'Enfant Cafe hosts Bastille Day - July 14th
In celebration of their 7th Annual Bastille Day Block Party and
French Maid Race, L’Enfant Café Bar announces it has once again added a masked
ball to its popular Bastille Day festivities.
The annual party has grown so popular, the casual café-bar has made
arrangements to again close an entire city block.
Co-hosted by King Louis XVI
and Queen Marie Antoinette – who bear a passing resemblance to café owners Jim
Ball and Christopher Lynch – the Bastille Day Block Party will take over Vernon Street, NW,
between 18th and 19th Streets will kickoff at 4p.m. and
conclude at 11p.m. Guests will be
welcomed at the door of L’Enfant (2000
18th Street, NW, Washington,
DC). Newcomers need look no
further than the corner bar topped with an Eiffel Tower
and drapped with les
drapeaux Tricolor
.
The guillotine out front is a dead giveaway.
The Bastille Day celebrations
kick off at 4p.m. on Thursday, July 14, 2011 when the gates open and guests are
invited to storm L’Enfant’s popular street-side patio. The entrance fee to
D.C.’s most revolutionary party is $5 for commoners and royalty alike. This
year will feature an array of interesting and fun performances from the stage
set up right on the street. Guests are invited to chill to DJs and enjoy street
bars and food stalls in anticipation of the arrival of the Monarch, his queen
and courtiers who will attend the French maid races. L’Enfant will offer food and drink specials
throughout the festivities.
The French maid race will start
at 8p.m. L’Enfant will provide French maid costumes for up to 40 competitors.
Racers must don the traditional short, frilly black and white lace apron dress
and prepare to be silly. The object of the race is to fill a Champagne
glass with soupspoons of water by running back and forth between the coupe and
a bucket of water. Winners in categories
including “Fastest”, “Shortest Skirt” and “His Majesty’s Favorite” will win
prizes including a magnum of Champagne.
No participant shall lose their head. The races have become a mainstay of Washington’s cultural
calendar. Says co-owner Jim Ball with a wink, “Our annual French Maid Race has
all of the fun and excitement of the Grand Prix with none of the elegance.”
After the races, L’Enfant will
debut a new twist to the street party: a masked ball. DJ booths will be rolled
into Vernon Street
and all present will be gifted with a mask. All participants are of course
encouraged to bring their own. The dancing on the street will conclude at
11p.m. when the street party will conclude.
L’Enfant Café Bar is a
neighborhood gathering place and as such has literally reserved a special VIP
section along the race course for the residents of Vernon Street. This year the race course
has been lengthen up the street to enable more guests than ever to witness the
race and cheer for their favorite maid.

4) New Business Open - Instant Noodles
Jonathan Wells and his team at Savour Restaurant and Sutra Lounge at 2408 18th Street, NW is pleased to introduce the Adams Morgan community to Instant Noodles! Instant Noodles is a new
restaurant where Savour was previously. This modern interpretation of traditional Vietnamese and Thai cuisine blends
spices, fresh herbs and vegetables with succulent meats, dipping sauces and
