Fun opportunity to promote the Nationals in their post-season!

The Washington Nationals are bringing postseason baseball back to Washington D.C. for the first time since 1933 .  The impact this will have on the city, our economy and our constituents is an occasion worth rallying around.  In order to unite the community and bring this achievement to life, the Nationals have engaged all of the D.C. Business Improvement Districts as they seek support for the hometown team.

Together, we hope to provide workers, residents, commuters and visitors additional ways to celebrate the postseason, share in the excitement of October baseball and promote unity across the region.  Here are just a few suggestions for ways to promote your postseason team spirit :

Contests

This is your chance to actively participate and display your support for the Nationals or, as they like to call it, “Igniting Your Natitude ”.  Constituents who create the best displays of Natitude within their respective category will win great prizes, including tickets and on-field recognition at 2013 regular season games.  Contests will begin with the Nationals first playoff game (est. October 6th) until the season concludes and include one daily winner (category independent) and one grand prize winner per category.

Buildings & Retail: We (the Adams Morgan BID) are encouraging our members and their tenants to demonstrate Nationals-themed support in their respective places of business, public spaces, office buildings and elsewhere.  The BID that demonstrates the best overall support in the categories listed below will be deemed the overall winner. COME ON LET'S WIN THIS!

Restaurants: Restaurants can offer Natitude-themed specialty drinks, entrees or appetizers on days that the Nationals have postseason games. Give it a unique name, promote it and make sure to upload photos of your Nationals-themed creations to Twitter tagged with #Natitude.

Hotels: Bring your guest lobby or entrance to life with Nationals decals or a Nationals-red flower display shaped as a Curly W.  Extra points will be awarded to staff members wearing Nationals gear.  Upload photos of your entrance way, lobby and staff members to Twitter tagged with #Natitude.

Citywide: Not a restaurant or hotel?  Don’t occupy window frontage or window space?  Not to worry.  Your organization can still get in on the postseason excitement by encouraging employees to wear Nationals gear, red ties or just red in general on gamedays.  Upload photos of your company’s support to Twitter tagged with #Natitude.

Fans: The Nationals are counting on support from fans throughout D.C., Maryland and Virginia.  Whatever it is you’re doing to back the hometown team, the Nationals want to see it. Upload your acts of Natitude to Twitter tagged with #Natitude.

*In addition to Twitter, all photos for contests can be submitted to Richard.Medina@Nationals.com .

Nationals-branded stickers

The Nationals will provide adhesive decals (easily removable) with the Curly W to adorn your restaurant, store front or office building.  Supplies of stickers are limited and available on a first come, first served basis.

If you are interested in this opportunity, please contact Richard.medina@nationals.com or Kristen at the BID kbarden@adamsmorganonline.org to discuss details for securing items and for additional information surrounding area-wide contests.

The stickers will be delivered to the BID office by October 3rd.

Decorative Lights are still available

You may remember seeing the high heel shoe, music note, martini glass or coffee mug that used to adorn the street lights in Adams Morgan for the last
10+ years.

We recently took them down and replaced them with canvas banners.

If anyone would like one of these iconic (ahem) decorative lights...please let Kristen know by calling 202-997-0783 or emailing her at: kbarden@adamsmorganonline.org You will need to pick it up at my office - at 1804 Belmont Road, NW.

All of the martini glasses and music notes are gone. There are high heel shoes and coffee mugs left. Please specify which you would like. First come, first serve.

You will hear first-hand from a panel of the people who are directly involved in providing the information and incentives, including representatives from:
Why this session is important to your bottom line
Restaurants and commercial kitchens are two of the highest energy consumers in buildings—using roughly 5 – 7% more energy per square foot than other commercial buildings, such as office buildings and retail stores. High volume quick-service restaurants may even use up to 10 times more energy per square foot than other commercial buildings. ( U. S. Department of Energy). This means there's a tremendous opportunity for your business to save energy and reduce costs. This session will help you learn how.

DDOT Parking Think Tank Schedule Update

September 26 Meeting Rescheduled to Take Place October 4

A Second Parking Think Tank to be Held in the Downtown Area October 3

The District Department of Transportation (DDOT) is continuing to host a series of community conversations, called Parking Think Tanks , to gauge the state of parking and to solicit public input on the future of parking in the District. DDOT envisions that these conversations will contribute to the development of a comprehensive curbside parking management plan.

Anyone who visits, lives or works in the District is invited to attend a Parking Think Tank.

To date DDOT has held a Parking Think Tank in the Downtown, Eastern and Southern areas of the District and plans to hold the additional meetings as follows:

Reminder: Annual Meeting is October 11

The Annual Meeting of the AMPBID will be Thursday, October 11, 2012 at 5pm, at the Third District Police Headquarters, 1620 V Street, NW. Postcards were mailed to all property owners and business owners at the end of August.

AMPBID Annual Meeting Election Process

At the October 11th Annual Meeting, BID members will have the opportunity to vote for candidates for 5 board slots: three property owners and two business owners. The board members currently holding those positions have been renominated for another term and have agreed to serve if elected.

Those are:

· Matt Wexler – Pharmacy Bar 2337 18th Street and Crumbs and Coffee 2700 Ontario Rd - property owner

· Kurt Meeske – Combined Properties – CVS Pharmacy, 7-11 and Game Stop 1755 - 1759 Columbia Road – property owner

· Louis Courembis – Southern Hospitality 1815 Adams Mill Road – property owner

· Constantine Stavropoulos – Tryst 2459 18th Street and The Diner 2453 18th Street – business owner

· Brian Vasile – Grand Central 2447 18th Street – business owner

AMPBID Annual Meeting Election Process

Each person eligible for election as a member of the Board may be nominated by: 1) the nominating committee, or 2) by a member petition submitted to the Chair of the Nominating Committee (Arianne Bennett) at least 30 days prior to the date of the meeting (THE NOMINATION PERIOD IS NOW CLOSED AND NO ADDITIONAL NOMINATIONS OR PETITIONS WERE RECEIVED); provided that only business owners can nominate business owners and property owners can only nominate property owners and a petition shall require the signature of no less than ten (10) members to nominate a member of the Board. Each nominee either shall be present at the annual meeting or shall consent to such nomination by a written document.

Voting

Per the by-laws, any properties for which BID taxes are over 60 days delinquent, may not vote nor may they nominate members to the board.

For each class of member, the ballot will list all the candidate names, and members will vote for the number of open slots in that category. For example, there are two business owner slots. All members will have the opportunity to vote for two candidates from the list of all business owner candidates.

Proxies

Proxy votes are allowed.

Pursuant to the BID bylaws, those interested in voting in the board elections by proxy can either contact the BID to request a proxy form, or can develop their own form, as long as it includes: the date of the meeting at which it is applicable (October 11) full names, addresses and the dated signatures of both the individual issuing the proxy and the witness(es) to the signature. The proxy voter can be anyone to whom the property or business owner designates to vote for them and DOES NOT have to be a member of the Adams Morgan Partnership BID. All proxy forms must meet all these criteria to be accepted.

The BID will have a proxy form available by fax, mail and by email.

Any questions on this process, please call Kristen at the BID office 202-997-0783 or email her at: Kbarden@adamsmorganonline.org .
