1) Important update on 18th Street Construction and PEPCO work - Saturday hours this weekend!

1)      Due to inclement weather over the past 2 weeks, the construction team is going to have Saturday hours THIS SATURDAY from 7 to 3:30 PM on March 19th, 2011.

2)      The work on Saturday will include: a) work behind the jersey barriers at Florida and 18th Street, and b) new lane striping on 18th Street from Columbia Road to Florida Avenue to mark new traffic patterns.

3)      Beginning on Monday March 21st, there will be No Parking (for traffic management and marked with metal No Parking signs) on the west side of 18th Street between Florida Avenue and the alley north of California Street (before Wyoming Avenue).

4)      Also beginning on Monday, March 21st there will be No Parking between California and Florida Avenue on the east side of 18th Street for active construction. This will be contained behind jersey walls.

5)      These no parking restrictions will continue in this area until approximately June 2011.

The PEPCO work is wrapping up soon but....for the weeks of March 21 through April 2, 2011 Pepco crews will be working from 7:30 a.m. until 4:00 p.m.  At 4:00 p.m. Pepco will have covered all work and removed all construction equipment from the street.

This utility work will take place in the following areas:

* West side of 2400 Block of 18th Street, NW, between Belmont Road and Columbia Road, NW

* West side of 2100 Block of 18th Street, NW (Conduit & Cable Dept.)

* West side of 2200 Block of 18th Street, NW, between Wyoming Street and Belmont Street, NW (Cable Dept.)

Where necessary, PEPCO will have No Parking signs from 7:30 a.m. until 4:00 p.m.

Pepco’s work will continue through March of 2011.

2) Final Adams Morgan marketing video available

Many people contributed to the making of a 2 minute marketing video we produced from November 2010 through January 2011. The final version can now be viewed at: http://www.monkeysee.com/play/19777-adams-morgan-neighborhood-profile-final .
This video will soon be on our new website but also will be on Destination DC's website in their first-ever Video City Guide. This video has been distributed to leading travel destination websites, web portals and NBC television stations through our partnership with Knowlera Media. All of these featured attraction videos and the main DC City Guide will be showcased on Washington.org, and Knowlera Media's syndicated network of websites, including AOL, Yahoo, Expedia, YouTube, Metacafe and Monkeysee.

3) Very Cherry AdMo PopUp Shop -March 27th through April 16

The Adams Morgan Partnership BID is pleased to be supporting Adams Morgan Main Street's Spring partnership with the National Cherry Blossom Festival.  This colorful, multicultural neighborhood business district hosts performance art, local retail, original art, and crafts all under one roof at 2421 18th St NW.

The “Very Cherry AdMo Pop Up Shop, ” located in the heart of Adams Morgan, is a temporary urban shop and exhibit venue where both visitors and locals can find unique items. This colorful, multicultural neighborhood business district hosts original art, and crafts all under one roof at 2421 18th St NW.  It runs March 27 – April 16 for 21 consecutive days & eves; including 4 weekends.

Visitors will find lots of diversity in both the offerings and vendors with original artwork in all sizes and prices, including known and unknown local artists from Adams Morgan and DC.  Examples of other items include sculpture, jewelry, green and baby items, plus photography and decoupage and more. Kid’s and themed activities are planned for the final schedule. “We have a fascinating diversity of artists from many different ethnic backgrounds and perspectives, plus a special “green” focus on artists utilizing organic or recycled materials,” said Lisa Duperier, President of Adams Morgan Main Street.

Themed highlights include a Shishi Dog for Opening Ceremony and Cherry Ribbon Cutting on Sunday, March 27 at 3:00pm, a Kabuki Dance Troupe, origami and decorative Kimonos. Patrons can shop numerous unique items for family, friends, colleagues and kids for everything from wearable art, accessories, jewelry, to fine art, paintings, photography and sculpture. According to Janet Lugo-Tafur, Executive Director, “We are proud of the focus on nearby neighborhood and local DC artisans, and that everything is made directly by the artist.” The retail show/shop will rotate as different themes, artisans and activities are highlighted, as well as related local businesses.

The “Very Cherry AdMo Pop Up Shop” 2421 18th St NW, Washington, DC 20009 will feature Cultural & arts exhibits, demos, and performances for both kids & adults.  Sample unique retail & art finds at this spontaneous shop which activates a vacant retail space.  Plans are to be open to the to the public, March 27 till April 16:  On Sun-Thurs: Noon till 9pm;  On Fri – Sat: 11am till 10pm.  Partners include: Craft Mafia DC, DSLBD, PN Hoffman, AMPBID, Duplex Diner, Casa Oaxaca, and Wok& Roll. 4) April 1 fundraiser for City Paper's Legal Defense Fund

Madam's Organ will be hosting a Fundraiser for the Washington City Paper's legal defense fund on April Fool's Day in Adams Morgan.  Please contact Bill Duggan at: madamsorgan@earthlink.net if you wish to donate a silent auction item or call 202-667-5370. This fund will help them battle the lawsuit from Daniel Snyder, owner of the Redskins.
