Adams Morgan Apple Festival Pie Baking Contest results
|
The
9th Annual Adams Morgan Apple Pie Baking Contest
and the
14th Annual Licking Creek Bend Farm Heirloom Apple Tasting
returned to Adams Morgan on Saturday in front of The Line Hotel and directly across the street from the farmer’s market in Unity Park.

This year’s series of pedestrian zones has essentially been a pilot project and we need your input to help determine its future. There are multiple surveys -- please fill only those that are appropriate for you, and please encourage your friends and contacts to do the same.

The DC Office of Planning is hosting a survey on their website to get the public's feedback on Streets for the People events including the Adams Morgan Pedestrian Zone. This feedback is very important to help inform future programs.

The
RECOVERY Act
(Rediscover Equitable Central Occupancy Vitality and Encourage Resilient Yield Amendment Act of 2021) is scheduled for a hearing on November 22. This bill was introduced by industry supporter Ward 2 Councilmember Brooke Pinto to provide an economic recovery package for the Central Business District, which has been slower than other cities to see workers return downtown and rebound following pandemic shutdowns. If passed, the proposal would incentivize mixed use development, provide grants, and temporary tax relief for businesses in innovative markets. Contact

Also, the
Business and Entrepreneurship Support to Thrive (BEST) Amendment Act
continues to progress, and we expect it to come before the Committee of the Whole this month. RAMW this year has been an active member of the BEST Act working group. If passed, the BEST Act would reduce some key fees as well as streamline and simplify licensing and renewal processes.

DC Cocktail Week Returns: November 28 - December 4
|
DC Cocktail Week, presented by Restaurant Association Metropolitan Washington (RAMW), returns as a week-long celebration of the area’s cocktail culture. Enjoy Cocktail Week throughout the Metropolitan region with a variety of restaurants offering tasty cocktails paired with delicious bites, innovative events, and in-house happenings.
Participating restaurants will offer cocktails and mocktails paired with food bites, host special events for the public to enjoy like cocktail classes, tasting dinners, and happy hours, and create take-home cocktail kits for fans to make at home.

will launch in the coming weeks. Diners should visit the site to view participating offers and events. Participating restaurants will be added to the website as they join the promotion.

Meet the District's Newest Agencies
|
Join CNHED's monthly meeting on Thursday, November 17 at 12 pm at the DC Housing Finance Agency to learn about the District's newest agencies The Department of Licensing and Consumer Protection (DLCP) and the Department of Buildings (DOB).
These two new agencies, the Department of Buildings (DOB) and the Department of Licensing and Consumer Protection (DLCP), will serve residents, businesses, and visitors of the District of Columbia, taking on responsibilities previously under the Department of Consumer and Regulatory Affairs’ (DCRA). Learn more about the new agencies and what they have to offer! There will be a Q&A following the presentation.

About the transition:
In response to legislation passed by the DC Council, on October 1, 2021, The Department of Buildings Establishment Act of 2020 became law and requires that DCRA transition into two new agencies, the Department of Buildings and the Department of Licensing and Consumer Protection as of October 1, 2022.
Within their respective areas of responsibility, DOB and DLCP will deliver effective compliance, meaningful regulation, and timely maintenance, putting consumer protection at the forefront of their improved operations.

FY23 Food Waste Innovation Grants Open for Applications
|
DLSBD is thrilled to announce that the FY23 Request for Applications (RFA) is now live on their
website
. We’re welcoming food businesses that produce, process, or serve food and/or beverages to apply for up to $10,000 to tackle food waste. Nonprofits working with 2+ businesses or groups of 2+ businesses are eligible to apply for more than $10,000 for collaborative projects. The RFA contains everything you need to know about the program, eligibility, and the application.

$100 due by Nov. 30 for ABRA businesses with a streatery
|
On June 30, 2022, the Reopen Washington DC Alcoholic Beverage Regulation Administration Amendment Act of 2022 took effect.
Included in the Act is a provision that extends the streatery program for licensees that obtain the required endorsement through December 31, 2023, permits year-round operation within permitted hours, and sets the endorsement fee for this timeframe at $100.
To continue being eligible to operate your streatery, you are required to submit a completed
Streatery Endorsement Application
and pay the $100 registration fee by 4:00 p.m. on November 30, 2022.
An application must include the following items to be considered complete:

Copy of email to the Office of Advisory Neighborhood Commissions providing notification of your Streatery Endorsement registration application. Electronic notice and a copy of your application must be sent to oancs@dc.gov

Copy of property owner written approval (Outdoor Private Space Only)
-
Copy of approval or registration with the District Department of Transportation (DDOT) for the outdoor public space (Outdoor Public Space Only)
-
Photo or diagram of the streatery location and setup.
You may request a payment link by emailing
abc@dc.gov
.
Applications for pre-existing streateries registered with DDOT must obtain a Streatery endorsement from the Alcoholic Beverage Regulation Administration (ABRA) but are not subject to ABC Board approval.
Licensees that fail to timely apply and provide payment will be subject to fines and/or license suspension. If you have permanently ceased your streatery operations, please email ABRA at
abc@dc.gov
.

Extended Hours for 2022 FIFA World Cup
|
Eligible licensees may operate 24-hours and sell and serve alcohol between 6:00 a.m. and 4:00 a.m. during the 2022 FIFA World Cup taking place November 20 - December 18, 2022.
To participate, licensees must register and pay a non-refundable $100 fee by
4:00 p.m. on Thursday, November 17
. If approved, licensees will be issued a permit that must be posted next to their alcohol license inside the premises.
Note the following:
-
Eligible licensees include On-Premises Retailers, Manufacturers with an On-Site Sales and Consumption Permit, and Temporary License holders.
-
Extended hours start the evening of the first day of the series—Sunday, November 20—and end at 4:00 a.m. on the last day—Sunday, December 18.
-
Alcohol sales, service, and consumption are NOT permitted between 4:00 a.m. and 6:00 a.m.
-
Settlement Agreements
and
Board Orders
apply and may affect eligibility.

Registration in ABRA’s
Extended Holiday Hours Program
and previous World Cup application approvals do not extend to the 2022 World Cup.

Approval of extended alcohol service hours does not extend ABC Board approved entertainment hours. To modify
entertainment hours
, licensees must submit a
Substantial Change Application
.

Better Bus is Metro's overarching initiative to improve Metrobus for the region. In the coming years, Better Bus will mean a lot of things for the region, including new facilities, bus electrification, improved bus communications, and more bus lanes and transit signals. Metro has launched the network redesign as a critical piece of Better Bus.
