Adams Morgan Day
has been a family-friendly celebration with music, art and activities for all ages. As Washington DC’s longest running neighborhood festival, we welcome residents and visitors alike to meet our neighborhood businesses, musicians, artists, and service organizations. Attendees can try cuisine and listen to music from across the globe without leaving the neighborhood!

Sunday, September 10, 2023; 12:30 pm - 1:30 pm
Join the Adams Morgan Partnership Business Improvement District (AMPBID), various DC Government agencies, and the MERIDIAN Rapid Defense Group for a demonstration of the Archer 1200 vehicle barrier system. The demonstration will take place during the September 10, 2023 Adams Morgan Pedestrian Zone road closure – as the street will be closed to vehicular traffic for the Adams Morgan Day Festival. The festival hours are 12 noon to 7 pm.
The demonstration will showcase the Archer 1200 Barriers and how the system will work when used throughout Washington, DC for special event road closures. This is the first time the use of mobile barriers will be piloted in DC for special event road closures.
Through the DC Office of Planning’s Streets for People grant, 24 barriers in three trailers were purchased. The American-made steel barriers sit unanchored on the roadway surface, and can be placed by a single person using tools provided. The Archer 1200 Barrier can augment fixed-in-place HVM (Hostile Vehicle Mitigation) barriers or be utilized as a primary security system for entry points, roadways and perimeters. They are rapidly deployable in sets of 8 in under 10 minutes, and set-ups allow for pedestrian, cyclist, and emergency emergency vehicle access in every deployment option. The barriers are stored on trailers pulled by a pickup truck and moved from their storage area to the event site.

Tryst Celebrates 25 Years, Redefining Cafe Culture as DC's Community Living Room
|
Tryst Coffeehouse
opened its doors in September 1998 with the simple goal of building meaningful connections, one animal cracker at a time. Over the years, Tryst has become synonymous with community. "Thank you to all of our employees and patrons, both past and present, for the lasting imprint you’ve made on Tryst… transforming it into what we've always envisioned: Washington, DC's very own ‘community living room,’” Tryst posted on Facebook earlier this month.
To celebrate 25 years of service, Tryst is throwing it back to the early days with a 90’s-themed bash on Saturday, September 9th. Party the night away with era-appropriate drinks and snacks, and top hits from the 90’s and 00’s courtesy of Tiny Vinyl.
But the celebration doesn't end there! Come to Tryst throughout the month to partake in fun events, games, programming, and prizes. The management and staff of Tryst look forward to celebrating the past 25 years with former employees, friends, neighbors, and community members that have made Tryst what it is today. Latin American Movie Night at Marie Reed Field
|
Join the Mayor's Office on Latino Affairs beginning on Thursday, September 14 for a movie series showcasing international films from Latin American countries. The films will be show on the soccer field at Marie Reed Elementary School.

|
Adams Morgan PorchFest is officially a twice-a-year event with its return on Saturday, October 14.
DC's favorite music festival has grown in size and popularity every year and this fall
we're really going big and will be closing 18th Street to vehicle traffic between Kalorama and Columbia Roads during the event!

Plaque Installed Honoring Iraj Askarinam, Adams Morgan Entrepreneur and Business Innovator
|
From the plaque:
Iraj Askarinam passed away on June 2nd, 2020. He led an incredible life. From humble beginnings in Shiraz, Iran, he immigrated to America in the 1970s. He made Adams Morgan his home. He opened one of the first restaurants on 18th Street in an abandoned laundromat that was burned after the Martin Luther King riots. Over the decades and along with his brothers, he started businesses and restaurants, and watched the community of Adams Morgan change and grow.
Iraj was often seen walking up and down 18th Street, talking to his neighbors and friends. In his later years, he was chasing his grandchildren or taking them to the park. When he wasn't with his family, he would be seen in Dupont Circle playing chess. We honor and remember, Iraj.
Thanks to the Askarinam family for placing this tribute in the neighborhood -- Iraj was an Adams Morgan institution and we miss him. The plaque can be seen on the wall next to the entrance to Pitchers located at 2317 18th St., NW.

Upcoming Training Sessions and Webinars from RAMW
|
The Tipped Wage Workers Fairness Amendment Act (TWWF) requires District employers who hire individuals earning tips as wages to complete an anti-sexual harassment training by a DC Office of Human Rights (OHR) certified trainer every two years. The implementation of Initiative 82 does not affect this requirement. The deadline to complete TWWF anti-sexual harassment training was August 31, 2023. Our understanding from OHR, is that staff who still need to be trained should register for a future class so that you have taken that step toward completion and compliance.
We do not have updates at this time about enforcement or penalties, but if you have questions, please contact Angela Gonzalez at OHR at angela.gonzalez1@dc.gov. Feel free to also contact us at training@ramw.org or (202) 331.5990 with questions or check out the TWWF FAQ's.

💸 Commercial Property Acquisition Fund (DMPED)
The Commercial Property Acquisition Fund will provide eligible businesses with down payment assistance of up to $750,000 or 25% of the sale price, whichever is less, for the acquisition of commercial property in the District. This year, businesses will need to complete three mandatory sessions in order to apply for the Fund. OPEN now on a rolling basis until funds are expended.
