Town Hall Zoom meeting with Mayor Bowser to discuss the Business Support Grants Emergency Amendment Act of 2020

Recently the DC Council unanimously passed, and Mayor Bowser signed, the Business Support Grants Emergency Amendment Act of 2020 . This Bill allocates up to $100 million in relief to local restaurants, retail, hospitality, entertainment, and childcare businesses and landlords. However, there are competing interests for these funds, so with Mayor Bowser’s support, there will be a zoom meeting on Wednesday, August 12th at 4:30 to meet with her.  This is an opportunity to engage with the Mayor.

You are invited to participate. We hope to understand her perspective on next steps and to provide her the opportunity to hear from you. This is your chance to explain some of the hardships you’re facing and needs for moving forward.

Adams Morgan Day: September 13 - 19, 2020

The 42nd annual Adams Morgan Day will continue this year, with a mostly virtual festival kicking off on Sunday, September 13. Local talent will provide an exciting lineup of live-streamed music, art, dance performances, family and kids’ activities. Adams Morgan Day has also partnered with community organizations to celebrate the history of our vibrant neighborhood in a socially distant fashion. This year’s celebration will include a history-based scavenger hunt with prizes.

Following the kickoff event, Adams Morgan Day festivities will continue throughout the week of Monday, September 14 to Saturday, September 19 with a focus on local businesses. The Adams Morgan Day planners are inviting businesses to participate in any way they feel comfortable. Businesses should feel free to contribute by running new promotions, set menus or even any regularly occurring promotions.

Planners will promote the participating businesses' promotions during the September 13 livestreams. Further, the Adams Morgan Day website and social media channels (@AdamsMorganDay) will regularly post content promoting participating businesses. The Adams Morgan Day team is providing these services at no cost to businesses.

Businesses should use this form indicate what they wish to do or offer on Sept.13 and/or the week ending Sept. 19

Businesses may email questions and comments to localbusiness@admoday.com . Planners are not actively fundraising among Adams Morgan businesses this year, due to the financial strain most are under due to COVID-19, but donations are accepted on the website , and the Adams Morgan Partnership BID contributed a significant grant to help defray the costs of promoting the event and specials this year.

This is the 6th year that the all-volunteer group led by the Adams Morgan Community Alliance , a 501c3 nonprofit, has organized the event with and for the community.

DC Chamber of Commerce Launches Initiative for DC Businesses Applying and Seeking Support with U.S. SBA Paycheck Protection Program Loans

The COVID-19 pandemic has dramatically impacted small businesses throughout the U.S. Fortunately, federal and state policymakers have responded by creating The Paycheck Protection Program (PPP) implemented by the Small Business Administration (SBA) to provide relief. This program is specifically designed to help small businesses maintain payroll and benefits for employees and cover overhead costs like rent, utilities, and mortgage interest.

Small businesses with fewer than 500 employees (subject to certain limited exceptions); independent contractors; and sole proprietors in business on February 15, 2020, can qualify.

The DC Chamber of Commerce (DCCC) has partnered with the Office of the Deputy Mayor for Planning and Economic Development (DMPED) to educate, connect, and provide technical assistance to support the small business community who are in pursuit of a PPP loan. DCCC will provide training sessions, and support businesses in need with bookkeeping and accounting services to aid in the economic recovery, and ensure that local businesses remain viable during this recession.

This resource is designed to help you understand the program and walk you through the steps you need to take to apply for this loan – and what you need to do to get the loan forgiven, so you don’t have to pay it back! DCCC will connect small businesses with our partners in the accounting, CPA, and financial industries that are standing by ready to help.

Send a Quick 'Thank You' to the DC Council

Following a series of contentious debates on new taxes and spending, the DC Council approved an amended budget that includes some new taxes, but a majority of members resisted major broad-based tax increases.

Public officials in DC and elsewhere are regularly inundated with various requests/demands for action on a wide range of issues, but they much less often receive expressions of thanks for their work. This is one big reason why we at the Recover Strong Alliance urge you to take just a minute or two to send a quick note to the Council thanking them for their hard work throughout a challenging budget season.

Please take a moment TODAY to quickly and easily send a thank-you to all Councilmembers HERE .

You can also reach out to Councilmembers individually via email or twitter ( Click here for contact info)

Finally, continue to spread the word!  Please forward our link https://recoverstrong.federalcitycouncil.org/  to your members, colleagues, friends and neighbors.

Restaurant Week Returns for Two Weeks:

August 17 - 30, 2020

Summer Restaurant Week, presented by the Restaurant Association Metropolitan Washington (RAMW), returns as the region’s biannual celebration of outstanding restaurants that contribute so much to our region. New this year, Restaurant Week has expanded to include a to-go program with a variety of family-style offerings as well as cocktail and wine pairings, available over two full weeks to encourage support of hundreds of restaurants throughout DC, Maryland, and Northern Virginia.

Participating restaurants will offer dinner menus at $35 or $55 per person. Similarly, many restaurants will also offer specially priced family-style to-go dinner meals, available at two price points intended to fit a range of budgets and tastes for curbside pickup. The to-go meals offer an even greater reason to take advantage of the promotion.

Some of your favorite Adams Morgan restaurants will be participating, including Grill from Ipanema and Perry's . Click here for the full list of participating restaurants.

Have You Spotted the New Safety Signage in Adams Morgan?

You may have noticed our meme-like safety signage that has been installed throughout the neighborhood! With signs featuring Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsberg (RBG), tons of cute puppies, and famous people named Ryan, it has certainly created a buzz both locally and nationally!

Due to the large volume of requests, the Adams Morgan Partnership BID is excited to offer the public an opportunity to purchase our health and safety signs for personal use. The signs are exactly the same as the ones posted around Adams Morgan and are approximately 24 inches by 18 inches. The signs do NOT come with the metal stakes (those are available at many hardware and craft stores). We expect orders to be ready within 1-3 weeks -- we do not have an active inventory -- signs are printed after they are ordered. Signs are available for shipping or local pick up. Please note that funds received above and beyond the cost of printing and shipping will be used to produce additional safety signage for our neighborhood in support of local businesses.

If you’d like to purchase a sign, please click here . Thanks for supporting local!
