ADAMS MORGAN FARMERS MARKET

This is BOK CHOY season!
We've had plenty of rave review from our CSA customers who love the versitility of this Asian green - stir fried, broiled, or raw in salads. So try some of this seasonal delight!
We've had some special requests for No 2 (seconds), apples for canning or sauce. We'll offer 1/2 bushel for $20 (approx .80/lb!). Order a week ahead please.
We'll have two special APPLES this week in limited amounts. BRAEBURN - a hard, juicy but especially tart apple. And, ARKANSAS BLACK, a very hard and good keeping heirloom apple. We'll also have, GRANNY SMITHS, GOLD RUSH, STAYMAN WINESAP, MUTSU, FUJI, YORK and NITTANY.
QUINCE is still available. Last night for Michael's birthday (yes, he's a Halloween baby!), I made an apple, pear and quince crisp. I peeled the quince (easy with a peeler), cut in pieces and cooked on a pot. I did add water when needed. It took a while (one website said the quinces decide for themselves when they are ready!), and before my eyes they did turn from a pale white to a gorgeous pink!!! I just mixed them in with the other fruit and it was yummy!!!
One of our CSA customers gave us a jar of quince jelly they just made. And, it's great in tarts, pies and jelly. It has natural pectin so you don't have to add pectin (just sweeteners of your choice).
We're always amazed that folks pass by the ARUGULA and other GREENS - MUSTARD, RAPE that are in season. Most folks are comfortable with Kale and Collards, but again we try to emphasize SEASONAL, and this is ARUGULA, MUSTARD AND RAPE season. Try some.

Washington DC Economic Partnership's Annual Meeting and Development Showcase - November 15th
Each year, the Washington DC Economic Partnership brings together DC’s top business leaders, retailers, investors, government and community leaders at their Annual Meeting & Development Showcase.
On November 15
th
, the 2013 Annual Meeting and Development Showcase will be bigger and better than ever. The half-day program begins with the Development Showcase, the largest event of its kind, featuring exhibitors representing almost every major commercial, retail, and housing development in the District.
The Development Showcase is followed by a luncheon meeting that has attracted up to 1,000 attendees in past years, featuring DC’s top business leaders, entrepreneurs, real estate professionals and local government officials.
This year’s keynote speaker will be Knight Kiplinger, President & Editor-in-Chief of Kiplinger Reporting and noted economic forecaster and journalist. He will be discussing the strengths and challenges of Washington’s economy today, and the national trends that will affect DC in the future. WDCEP’s Annual Meeting & Development Showcase has helped numerous professionals meet new customers, discover new developers, and connect with fellow DC natives who are looking to continue to grow this vibrant city.
The AMDS 2013 will take place on November 15th starting at 10am in the Washington DC Convention Center.

Ward 1 Rat Summit - November 9th
The D.C. Department of Health (DOH) is sponsoring a one day Rat Summit in each of the city’s eight (8) wards.
The
first
of these Rat Summits will be held
Saturday, November 9, 2013
at
10:00 A.M.
at the
Columbia Heights Community Center, 1480 Girard Street, N.W.
The summits are an attempt to abate the rat population and for DOH to provide information and education to community groups, residents, and business owners on topics such as proper waste storage, rodent proofing, and their ability to assist with rodent abatement.
Please attend to better understand the role we can each play to help reduce the rat population in our neighborhoods.
