The Adams Morgan Partnership is hosting our first MASKerade selfie contest through Saturday night
|
We want you to encourage your customers to wear face masks that are fancy, decorated, customized, etc. (and still safely cover their nose and mouth). They will enter the contest by taking a selfie at your business and posting it on social media with the hashtag #AdMoMask. The winning individual will get a $100 gift card
to your business
and your business will receive a $300 cash prize.
That's an extra $400 for your business by encouraging your customers' creativity.

In a year full of disappointing event cancelations, we're excited to announce that the annual
Adams Morgan Apple Festival and Pie Baking Contest
will be happening on Saturday, October 31, at the Farmers Market at SunTrust Plaza. Obviously there will be some changes, for example we won't have the heirloom apple tasting and everything will be following the city's farmers market safety protocols.
We will, however, have the pie baking contest! And instead of local celebrities judging the pies,
YOU
will be able to vote on your favorites. Contestants' pies will be sliced and packaged individually and will each include information on how to rate that pie online. Slices will be sold to the public during the regular farmers market hours and 100% of the proceeds will go to the
Reed-Cooke Neighborhood Association's COVID-19 Relief Fund
.
Come out on Saturday and buy a slice or two of pie! It's for a great cause.
Pie slices will be available for sale starting at approximately 11:00am through 1:00pm (or until they're gone).

Music on the Move with ADMObile: Saturdays from 5-7pm
|
On Saturdays in October, the Adams Morgan Partnership is partnering with
Songbyrd Music House and Record Cafe
on a new project called
#ADMObile
. Featuring a fully decked-out vintage truck and a variety of musical performances, community members enjoy music from a safe distance while dining, shopping, and strolling through the neighborhood. We will be hosting ADMObile events each Saturday from 5-7pm through the end of October (weather permitting).
This weekend we will be featuring
Emma G
as well as
The Experience Band and Show
. And since it's Halloween, we'll have some candy for our audience to enjoy.
The truck will make its way around Adams Morgan making stops for performances along 18th Street and Columbia Road. Performances will feature a mix of all music genres and will rotate on a weekly basis. We’d also like to give a special thanks to our community partner,
T-Mobile
, for their assistance in making these fun, socially-distanced events possible!

Tuesday, November 3 is election day.
Currently MPD and the District’s Homeland Security Office do not know of any specific threat of unrest, but they are closely monitoring social media and national events so that they can quickly respond to any threats that arise. This is being viewed within DC government as an “election period” versus an “election day,” with officials proceeding under the planning assumption that no winner will be announced on Tuesday. The city’s preparedness posture is that of a heightened state of alert, and that will continue through the inauguration in January.
Businesses should be alert to the situation, but DC’s Business Emergency Management Operations Center (BEMOC) is not advising the boarding up of windows, though businesses are free to do so if they choose. Refer to their

for more information.
Government officials continue to emphasize that business and property owners should use the days leading up to the election to prepare and establish continuity plans. Consider setting up lines of communications (such as text message chains) with staff to figure out when they plan to vote and where they plan to be on election night. Establish and communicate locations where staff can take refuge quickly and safely, if needed.

It has been eight months since our lives and businesses were uprooted and we know everyone is firmly rooted in moving forward with all concerns for safety top of mind. Our region has not seen major movement in moving to future stages of reopening, and instead regional leaders continue to focus on a measured approach to reopening that focuses on health and safety. This measured approach has been beneficial as we watch the list of states that continue to show high numbers of positive Covid cases.
DC is one of only six states that have a current positivity rate below 2%, which indicates a grasp on the contours of local community spread.

for the nationwide rates. Once DC schools reopen in early November in some on premise capacity, there could be an opportunity to further conversations in areas of additional allowances particularly going into understanding what the holiday season may mean for dining in DC and surrounding areas.
We shared a quick survey with you a couple days ago that gauges the impact of the pandemic on your operations this fall. It is CRITICAL that we are able to present an accurate picture of the state of our industry that is rooted in data.

for assistance. Also on the relief front, we have been told that Resiliency Grant awardees will be notified by the city by the end of next week.
We hope you will join us for a Zoom Roundtable Discussion with DC DOH on Wednesday, November 18th at 2pm. We will discuss pertinent updates from DOH, guidance recommendations and enforcement. This is a great opportunity to connect directly with decision makers and to ask them specific questions about operations. If you are able to participate please RSVP to eden@ramw.org.
We have heard from a few of you that when FEMS is conducting inspections of your outdoor dining set up that they have also inspected indoors, and we want to make sure this is on your radar, as it has come as a surprise to some.
On the federal relief front
, there are not many new updates to report. At this time, it is unlikely anything will pass before the election, and whatever relief is passed will likely happen during the lame duck session. House Speaker Pelosi and Treasury Secretary Mnuchin continue to talk regularly regarding relief, which could have a positive outcome.
