Apple Festival and Pie Contest on Saturday!

Join us at the Adams Morgan Farmers Market on October 28th from 10:30am - 1:00pm in SunTrust Plaza at the corner of 18th St. and Columbia Rd. for our annual Apple Festival featuring the ever-popular pie contest.

Proceeds from the sale of apple pie slices will go to Joseph's House .

The festival also includes the melodic harmonies of Adams Morgan’s own viola musician Roy Hill, and will feature a pumpkin decorating station for the first time. All paper wares and utensils used will be biodegradable.

Schedule:

  • 8 am: Adams Morgan Farmers Market opens
  • 10:30 am: Heirloom apple tasting
  • 11 am: Pie slices go on sale
  • 12 pm to 1 pm: Pie Contest Judging
  • 1 pm: Contest winners announced
  • 1 pm: Market & Festival ends

This year's judges will be:

If you're an apple connosiour, you'll want to take in the heirloom apple sampling , featuring BLACK TWIG, ARKANSAS BLACK, GOLDEN RUSSET, SMOKEHOUSE, RUSSET, SHEEPNOSE, LADY (16th Century), YORK IMPERIAL, SWEET BANANA, ROME BEAUTY, NORTHERN SPY, GRANNY SMITH, NITTANY, and a few others.

Halloween at Meeps DC's Premier Halloween Shop - Meeps expands it's year-round costume selection to bring you vintage one-of-a-kind costumes ! New arrivals of new wigs/makeup/accessories, etc daily.
Black Squirrel : Halloween beer candy and costumes encouraged all weekend

Grand Central : Halloween bash Friday from 8pm to 11pm. $20 tickets get entrance to costume contest and open bar from 8-11. Live DJ and beer pong plus flip cup.
The Cookie Jar DC : Special flavors limited time only, pumpkin pie, Halloween sugar cookie and orange chocolate chip.

Madams Organ : 10/28 and 10/31. Costume contests on both nights with large cash prizes and live bands. $4 miller lite $5 Sam Adams $7 all Absolut drinks $10 for Absolut and Red bull.
Mellow Mushroom : Costume party 10/28 must RSVP. Free beer from Brooklynn brewery while supplies last. Live DJ. 10/27 rooftop spooky pop up art gallery. All night happy hour on second floor. Costumes encouraged.

Smoke and Barrel : 10/26 Tricks and Treats a benefit for HIPS. Fundraiser hosted by Kathleen Dolan. Games, prizes costumes are encouraged and so is cash for donations.

Songbyrd Music House : TROPIXXX 10/27 music event featuring some spooky sounds. 10pm.
Town Tavern : A Very Potter Tavern continues through November 1.

Celebrate the legendary Ambassador Theater at Songbyrd Music House on Saturday

On Saturday, October 28, come honor the 50th anniversary of DC’s legendary Ambassador Theater, the psychedelic dance hall in Adams Morgan that played host in 1967 to Jimi Hendrix, Canned Heat, Moby Grape, The Hollies, John Lee Hooker, Strawberry Alarm Clock, Vanilla Fudge, The Paul Butterfield Blues Band and more, including local bands Crystal Mesh, Fallen Angels and Mosaic Virus among others. The Ambassador was known for its total immersion light show The Psychedelic Power and Light Company, and was also one of the staging points for the March on the Pentagon, with Norman Mailer rallying protestors from the stage, days beforehand.

WRAP's 2017 Halloween SoberRide Campaign

WRAP’s 2017 Halloween SoberRide campaign is scheduled to run from 10:00 p.m. Saturday, October 28th until 4:00 a.m. Sunday, October 29th, 2017.

WRAP’s SoberRide program is one of the nation’s most successful free safe rides programs for potentially impaired drivers. However, prevention is essential for keeping our highways safe during high-risk holidays. If your organization needs an alcohol awareness presentation, WRAP’s Safe And Vital Employees (SAVE) program is available free of cost to you. This 45-minute, customized presentation will inform employees and/or military personnel about the physical, economic and legal consequences of impaired driving.

IMPORTANT: Commercial Property Tax Survey of DC Small Businesses

CNHED’s Neighborhood Commercial Corridor Working Group is conducting a short survey to gather input from local small businesses on the cost of doing business in the District of Columbia. This survey was developed in response to concerns that the changes to the District’s commercial property assessment process, as of FY 2015, may be having an adverse effect on local small, independently-owned businesses.

If you are a small business owner, please answer the survey questions; it only takes a few minutes.

The collected information will be used to educate and inform District agencies and DC Council members, and to make a compelling case for changes to the commercial property tax. The deadline to complete the survey is Friday, November 10th.

Daylight Savings Time is on November 5

From the Metropolitan Police Department:

Restaurants, taverns, hotels, and other on-premises establishments will have an extra hour to operate as a result of Daylight Saving Time.

Clocks will fall back one hour from 2 am to 1 am on the morning of Sunday, Nov. 5, creating an extra hour in the day. Establishments that normally operate at 2 am will automatically gain an additional hour to conduct business. Establishments will be required to stop all sales and service of alcoholic beverages by 3 am unless the establishment's license states otherwise. No registration is required to participate.

  • ABRA resources and hearing processes.
