Adams Morgan PorchFest is almost here!

As a partner of Adams Morgan Partnership BID, Cultural Tourism DC is excited to work with the volunteers for this annual event. If you're interested in volunteering for an afternoon of neighborhood fun at the 5th Annual Adams Morgan PorchFest, we would love to have your help!

Adams Morgan PorchFest is a terrific opportunity to hear great music while meeting new people and supporting local businesses. The event features more than a dozen/patios as performance space for local musicians. As a PorchFest volunteer, you will greet guests at a performance location, acknowledge program sponsors, introduce the performers, and count the number of people enjoying the music. Volunteers also may be asked to help staff set-up and break-down the PorchFest Headquarters and place signs throughout the neighborhood.

There are two volunteer shifts -- 1:30 pm to 4:15 pm and 3:30 pm to 7:15 pm. You may volunteer for one shift or both shifts by clicking here .

Volunteers must attend an orientation on October 3, the location of which will be sent to you shortly after you sign-up and select your shift(s).

The Annual Meeting of the AMPBID will be Tuesday, October 10, 2017

at 5pm, at the Festival Center at 1640 Columbia Road, NW.

AMPBID Annual Meeting Election Process

At the October 10th Annual Meeting, BID members will have the opportunity to vote for candidates for 5 board slots: three property owners and two business owners.

Voting

Per the by-laws, any properties for which BID taxes are over 60 days delinquent, may not vote nor may they nominate members to the board.

For each class of member, the ballot will list all the candidate names, and members will vote for the number of open slots in that category. For example, there are two business owner slots. All members will have the opportunity to vote for two candidates from the list of all business owner candidates.

Proxies

Proxy votes are allowed.

Pursuant to the BID bylaws, those interested in voting in the board elections by proxy can either contact the BID to request a proxy form, or can develop their own form, as long as it includes: the date of the meeting at which it is applicable (October 10) full names, addresses and the dated signatures of both the individual issuing the proxy and the witness(es) to the signature. The proxy voter can be anyone to whom the property or business owner designates to vote for them and DOES NOT have to be a member of the Adams Morgan Partnership BID. All proxy forms must meet all these criteria to be accepted.

The BID will have a proxy form available by mail and by email, or they can be picked up at the AMPBID office at 1640 Columbia Rd., NW by appointment.

Important: Recent Business Robberies
Over the past two weeks, three Adams Morgan businesses have been robbed. In those cases, money was taken from the cash register. Police are reminding businesses that cash registers should be emptied of cash each night before closing and burglar alarms should always be activated when locking up for the evening. Also, MPD continues to encourage businesses to install security cameras and their rebate program (below) is still in effect.
MPD Private Security Camera Rebate Program is ongoing

The Private Security Camera Rebate Program , administered by the Office of Victim Services and Justice Grants (OVSJG), creates a rebate for residents, businesses, nonprofits, and religious institutions to purchase and install security camera systems on their property and register them with the Metropolitan Police Department (MPD). The program provides a rebate of up to $200 per camera, with a maximum rebate of up to $500 per residential address (e.g., home offices, condo buildings, and apartments) and $750 for all other addresses. The rebate is exclusively for the cost of the camera(s) including any applicable tax. The rebate does not include installation, additional storage, accessories, or any cameras that are purchased but not installed on the exterior of the property. Rebates will only be given for the cameras that are installed on the exterior of the property and for the amount that has been paid at the time of the application.

This program is intended to help deter crime and assist law enforcement with investigations. Apple Festival and Pie Contest set for October 28

Join us at the Adams Morgan Farmers Market on October 28th from 10:30am - 1:00pm in SunTrust Plaza at the corner of 18th St. and Columbia Rd. for our annual Apple Festival featuring the ever-popular pie contest.

Benefits from the sale of apple pie slices will benefit Joseph's House .

We will have more details about judges and how to enter as we get closer to the date. Also this year, we will be adding a pumpkin carving station. Buy your pumpkin at the market and carve it on site -- we'll be sure all the pumpkin innards are composted instead of ending up in your trash.

Dear friends in Adams Morgan, at Pepco, our purpose is delivering safe, reliable, and affordable energy to our customers. As part of our goal of providing quality service safely and reliably, we recently completed underground equipment tests and proactive maintenance in your area.

We successfully installed new equipment and implemented system upgrades to strengthen reliability to area residents and businesses. The short-term project, including transferring energy to newly installed equipment, was completed safely and on schedule, and we provided generators to the affected areas during the brief period of temporary service interruption which helped prevent extended outages. With this recent work, we believe we have addressed the recent power issues in the area and have improved electric service reliability for our customers in the 2400 block of 18th Street, NW.

We appreciate your continued patience and understanding as we continue to strengthen our system in your area. DCRA Infraction Fine Increase Amendment Act of 2017

Effective October 1, 2017, the Department of Consumer & Regulatory Affairs (DCRA) will increase certain fines pursuant to the " DCRA Infraction Fine Increase Amendment Act of 2017 " (as part of the Budget Support Act), which requires DCRA to begin issuing doubled fines for identified provisions. DC Municipal Regulation (DCMR); 16 DCMR 3201 Subsection 3201.0 specifically addresses the change in fines for impacted Class 1 infractions.

The District of Columbia Property Maintenance Code (2013), referred to as the “Property Maintenance Code,” will require double fines for certain Code violations, as shown here .

Beginning October 1, 2017, Notices of Infraction for specified offenses will carry fines that are 200% of their current amount for each applicable violation.

Input sought on Dockless Bikeshare pilot program

From our friends at the Washington Area Bicycle Association :

Starting in late September, the District Department of Transportation (DDOT) will begin a pilot allowing dockless bikeshare companies to introduce a small fleet of bikes in the District. From late September through April 2018, DDOT will evaluate the benefits and impacts of dockless bikeshare, and develop appropriate regulations for allowing these systems in the city.

Unlike Capital Bikeshare , dockless bikeshare does not rely on fixed docks to check out and secure bikes. Instead, users check out a bike using a mobile phone application and end their trip wherever it is convenient, within limits set by the government and the company.

There are opportunities and risks involved in allowing private bikeshare businesses to operate in DC. As the first of multiple opportunities for the bike community and the public to offer feedback, DDOT would like to hear your thoughts on:

  • The appropriate number of bikes, both aggregate, or for any participating company;
  • Bicycle parking requirements, including geographic distribution and rebalancing;
  • Data access and transparency;
  • Reporting requirements; and
  • Safety and education of riders.

Feedback on the demonstration period’s structure can be submitted via email to publicspace.policy@dc.gov through Friday, September 22. There will be additional opportunities to provide input throughout the demonstration period.

Dockless bikeshare has met with mixed results in other cities around the world. We’re working with DDOT and other stakeholders to make sure that as these programs move into our region, they are structured and regulated such that their success makes bicycling better and more accessible to more people. If you have experience or suggestions, please share them with DDOT at publicspace.policy@dc.gov .
