Celebrate the Season with an Interactive Light Display, Holiday Caroling & More!
|
You are invited to celebrate the most wonderful time of the year in Adams Morgan! It’s the perfect place to shop, dine, and support approximately 240 local, small businesses. Enjoy a variety of fun holiday activities and festive decorations, an interactive light display in the plaza, plenty of shops for all of your gift-giving needs, and an array of restaurants for every palate and pocketbook.
A month-long interactive light display is located in the plaza at Columbia Road and Adams Mill Road, NW throughout December! The illuminated display is ideal for selfies or holiday card photos - plus, you may even find a surprise mistletoe. Street light decorations can also be found throughout the neighborhood and will surely get you in the holiday spirit.
While holiday shopping, attending a holiday party, or enjoying a date night out in Adams Morgan, visitors can listen to holiday carolers in Dickensian costumes and the
Capital Classics Quartet
(members of the
Capital Chorus
) in the plaza on the following dates (weather permitting):

Make Metro Your Safe Trip on New Year’s Eve
|
Are you planning to celebrate New Year’s Eve in the region? #YourMetro announced
Metrorail and Metrobus service will be extended until 2 a.m. on Sunday, Jan.1. Additionally, all trips will be free for customers who choose Metro after 8 p.m. on Saturday, Dec.31.
To promote public safety in the region, Metro’s Board of Directors gave direction to the General Manager and Chief Executive Officer to provide free trips and extended hours this New Year’s Eve.

Your input needed on Metro’s strategic plan progress

This week Metro released an update for customers and stakeholders on the development of a new strategic plan, #YourMetro, The Way Forward. The plan will provide a long-term strategy and direct Metro’s day-to-day decision making over the next five plus years. The update outlines draft goals focused on service excellence, regional opportunity and partnership, sustainability, and talented teams.

Metro leadership will present a draft plan to the Board of Directors early next year. Following the release of the draft plan, Metro will conduct additional public engagement, including a Compact public hearing, where you will have another opportunity to provide feedback. The final plan is expected to be ready for Board adoption in February 2023, prior to adoption of the FY2024 budget.

Operators who received an Economic Injury Disaster Loan can apply for a
Hardship Accommodation Plan
from the Small Business Administration. Eligible businesses can make reduced payments for 6 months while accruing interest.
Staying in federal news:
US Sens. Ben Cardin, (D-MD), Sherrod Brown (D-OH), and Patty Murray (D-WA) introduced the
Restaurant Revitalization Tax Credit Act
, which would create a payroll tax credit for operators who applied for but did not receive the Restaurant Revitalization Fund (RRF). The bill will not be considered this session and expire at the end of the year as it contends with the same challenge that thwarted efforts to replenish the RRF … lack of bipartisan agreement on how to pay for it.

The
Credit Card Competition Act
is also not expected to pass this session, but remains in play. Operators are still encouraged to to reach out and meet with Senate staff so that they hear support for this bill to start off the new year. The bill would increase competition among payment processors by allowing restaurants and other businesses to choose which networks process their credit cards, ultimately driving down fees. Contact

Offer parking benefits?
Businesses who offer a parking benefit and have more than 20 employees must offer a
parking cashout
starting January 15
. A parking cashout is an incentive offered to employees such as compensation or public transportation benefit instead of the parking benefit.

DC Food Access Fund
at 2 pm Monday at an online info session. The fund supports food and beverage businesses looking to expand their operations into areas with low access to freshly prepared foods, with priority given to Wards 7 and 8.
We have heard from many DC operators that are still waiting to hear about their Small Medium Business Growth Fund applications or to receive funding that was approved. This program, launched in May, has seen much slower than usual completion time and we are in touch with DMPED about the lag. All the while, applications are open for a new round of
Bridge Funds
for businesses that lost revenue due to the pandemic. Grant awards range from $5,000 to $45,000, with priority given to businesses that have not previously received relief funds.
Applications close next week for
Food Waste Innovation Grants
, which can be used for anything that can minimize food waste including refrigeration, inventory software, food donation programs, and more.

The DC Department of Public Works has opened another round of public comments to the
Zero Waste DC Plan
draft framework. DPW is considering a number of recommendations affecting restaurant operations, including how food waste, reusable containers, and recycling are handled. Comments are due by December 30.
