Legislative Update from RAMW
|
DC
Council held a Legislative Session yesterday, and the bill they passed cleans up provisions passed in previous legislation such as rent freezes during the Emergency and a 15% cap on third party delivery fees during the Emergency, but makes no new substantive changes impacting your operations. The legislation also confirmed that the Tenant Payment Plan applies to restaurants and bars, and clarifies that it is inclusive of gross rent and any other amounts coming due under the lease during the health emergency and for a year thereafter. The tenant should work the payment plan out with the landlord. Although not ideal, this legislation was designed to give the tenant some flexibility in when and how to pay their rent during the public health emergency.
The bill also adopted rules already in place regarding expanded outdoor seating. The legislation keeps these privileges in place until October 25, 2020. As a reminder, if you are using expanded outdoor space, you
must complete Phase One Registration using

for both public and private space. ABRA also put together
numerous requirements governing the use of the additional space as well as operational requirements designed to protect workers and the public.

Reed-Cooke Neighborhood Association (RCNA) Emergency Relief Grant program
|
From the Reed-Cooke Neighborhood Association:
Greetings Neighbor!
In this time of uncertainty, the Reed-Cooke Neighborhood Association has created the Emergency Relief Grant program to offer micro-grants to residents of Adams Morgan who have lost their jobs as a result of the Coronavirus Health Crisis and are unable to receive UI benefits.
The Reed-Cooke Neighborhood Association is raising money for the Relief Fund and will match donations up to $10,000. All donations are tax-deductible through RCNA’s 501(c)(3) status, and 100% of funds will be distributed to those in need.
We've all been affected by this public health crisis in some way, and we know that many of you may also be hurting, financially and beyond.
However, if you're in a position to do so, consider donating to this relief fund and showing the members of our community how much we all care about them.

DC Fire and EMS is hosting free walk-up coronavirus testing sites. This week, sites are open 4:00pm – 8:00pm in Ward 1 at Engine 11 (3420 14th Street NW) on Thursday, June 11, and Engine 4 (2531 Sherman Avenue NW) on Friday, June 12.

Update on Events DC Fund for Undocumented Workers Laid Off During COVID
|
As part of legislation approved yesterday, the DC Council approved the contract with
Events DC
regarding the
$5 million that was set aside
for undocumented workers who were laid off or furloughed due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The Greater Washington Community Foundation is now authorized to manage the $5 million fund. It will be disbursed through local nonprofit organizations to undocumented families, aiding - in particular - hospitality workers. The foundation will partner with the Mayor's office to distribute 5,000 pre-paid debit cards of $1,000 each.

LEDC is putting together a directory of small businesses in the DMV. This list will be shared with 10,000+ individuals in the DC Metro Area through their social media platforms and on their website.

Adams Morgan Farmers Market Saturday
|
The full Adams Morgan Farmers Market is now open on Saturdays with the LICKING CREEK BEND FARM, RAVENHOOK BAKEHOUSE and REMIE'S FLOWERS and PLANTS.
The market will observe City approved social distancing as well as extra health and safety precautions.
Our new hours are 8:30am - 12:30pm at Suntrust Plaza, 18th Street and Columbia Rd.
Licking Creek Bend Farm has established a CSA Subsidy Program for first responders, essential service providers and families deeply impacted by the pandemic. We already have 25 families participating and seek donations to support their subsidized membership fees. DDOT Begins Construction on 14th Street NW Bus Lane Improvement Project
|
Today, the District Department of Transportation (DDOT) announced the start of bus lane construction on 14th Street NW between Euclid and Newton Streets NW, commencing a year-long project to improve bus performance and safety.
“We are excited to launch such important work in enhancing bus transit in the Columbia Heights corridor,” said District Director Jeff Marootian. “DDOT recognizes how essential this will be for area residents and it also exemplifies Mayor Bowser’s commitment to improving bus travel speeds and reliability across the District.”
DDOT expects the enhanced bus lane will improve performance of the DC Circulator Woodley Park-Adams Morgan route and Metrobus lines 52, 54, and 59. The new protected, shared bike and bus lane will also improve safety for bicyclists and pedestrians by physically separating bicycles from other vehicular traffic. During the one-year project, DDOT will study the performance of buses, bicycles, and traffic in the corridor to assess benefits, impacts, and necessary refinements.
